IELTS Speaking Sample Answer # Appearance

Appearance of a person is the first thing that get noticed by a stranger. This is the reason that most people talk into you to dress well before any job interview. Today, let us have a look at some of the possible questions related to appearance, that might be asked in IELTS speaking section.

What is the first thing that you notice about a person?

The first thing that grabs my attention about a person is the way the person walk. I believe that the walk of a person talks a lot about the personality of an individual.

What effect does the clothes of an individual have upon an individual?

Clothes surely speak a lot about an individual. Obviously, wearing western or traditional does not matter much, because it simply talks about the style statement the individual prefers. But, the way the person wears whatever he/she prefers to wear speaks a lot. So, neat and ironed clothes show that the person is disciplined in some sense, organised you can say as well. But, someone who hangs onto anything available tends to depict carelessness.

Is there any part of your appearance that you are very proud of?

Proud of, I don’t know. But, my smile is something that I really like. I have often found myself smiling in those tough situations when everyone is breaking down and it helps in lightening the mood of the situation. Also, it is because of my smile that I have been able to meet so many kind people who have helped me in my tough times.

What is the most interesting haircut you have ever seen?

I think the most interesting would be lady Gaga’s haircut when she went to the launch of a v-16 magazine. It was outrageous and eye striking. You could see gaga’s hair in the form of sun and it felt as if the sun is rising from behind her. Sometimes I wonder how is gaga able to do such weird and yet confident acts.

Have you ever gone the entire day without noticing anything wrong in your appearance?

Well, there was this day, I wore a new top and jeans for my work. I remember I was in a hurry while dressing up and so I forgot to take out the price tag of my shirt. I am not very  sure if it was visible but it was only when I came back home that I realised that it was present there and I had not removed it. It was so embarrassing at that moment but then I just let it go.

What kind of things do you do to improve your appearance?

I think appearance is something that represents who you are and I want to represent a constant changing, evolving personality. So, I try to look for different kinds of clothes and shoes and wear them mis matchingly sometimes. The latest addition to my appearance is a black big bindi. I wear it no matter I am wearing a traditional cloth or a western one and for some reasons it looks really nice on  me as well.

Are there any fashion trends that you followed in the past but you think they are silly now?

Some time back there was this trend of wearing black bands in hand. And I followed it blindly. So, I used to wear it in my school, tuition everywhere. I remember getting scolded for it, but no one could just stop me from wearing it. Now, I think it was not so important to wear them and I could have maintained the decorum of school and yet follow fashion.

How long does it take to you to get ready in the morning?

It takes around 30 to 40 minutes in the morning, from getting up to getting out of the house. I manage to do everyday ritual in this time.

Have you ever been intimidated by someone’s appearance?

There was this boy in our school and he really didn’t had a great appearance initially, but what I loved about him was that he was constantly changing his appearance. You could see him in beard sometimes, sometimes pony tails, sometimes clean shaven and so much more!

Do people in your country talk a lot about people’s appearance?

Appearance does matters a lot in our country. What you wear is surely the talk of the town unless you are wearing what everyone else is. People often like to see girls wearing traditional clothes; with men there is no such restriction but wacky hairstyles or beard do get the undue notice and often become the talk of the town.

Is it rude to tell people that they need to change their appearance?

I think it depends on the way you say it to a person. If the person is looking presentable, there is no need to tell a person about changing appearance, as everyone has the right to wear whatever they want. But, if there appearance is offensive in some sense, like people wearing god’s clothes as undergarments or anything like that, I think they could be told to change appearance.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Ideas And Innovation

We all get struck by ideas and innovations. They run through our mind so many times, but how often do we go on to implement them? Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to ideas and innovation that could be asked in the speaking part I. Later we shall discuss the questions that might be asked in speaking part II and III.

Have you ever hit upon an innovative idea or plan?

There are so many times that ideas pop into my mind. It could be while I am reading something or may be while I am doing some work. Because, when I am doing something in a particular way, I often get those blinks, like we can do it some other way as well. Or, when I see people doing or not doing things, ideas do come up.

Do you know anyone who has a knack for coming up with ideas?

In my life, I have surely met many people who have great ideas with them and it is so amazing to be surrounded with them. There is a friend of mine, she figured out an amazing way of solving transportation issue in our city. She gave an idea of marking the autos as pink, so that girls can use them easily with safety insured. Also, there was a person in my college, who made a bomb detector.

ideas and innovation

Does this person think out of box?

I think surely he thinks out of box. Because, making a bomb detector out of something different was unique. He even went on to meet the prime minister of our country for his invention.

I think it is not about thinking out of the box. Because, when I met this person, he explained to me that we all are in rush of thinking out of box that sometimes we forget that we need to stop thinking there is a box at the first place. He said, he just does things in the best possible ways and let the results roll out.

When you are brainstorming about ideas, do you bounce them off others?

Well, you can say, this is a 50-50 call. Sometimes, me and my team are in complete synchronization, so whatever I am trying to say, they understand it very well. Often, completing my sentences. But, there are even times when they don’t understand what my vision actually is. But, I am grateful that in those tough times, they do support me and my vision.

How adept are you in implementing ideas that you or may be someone else has blurted out?

It could be approximately 95 % . So, there are so many ideas that we have all around and then we need to figure out what ideas could be implemented right now, which ones should be clubbed together to make something even more bigger and then what might not be feasible. But, once we are clear as to how the idea is needed to be implemented, we go on making it possible.

Have you ever scoffed at someone’s else idea?

Not very critically I would say, but as a team, we are very truthful to each other. So, if the idea is actually not feasible, yes I have told them the truth. But, it is not something done straight away. I always try to find out the reason why the person is thinking that way and what the theory is behind it. Once it is clear, often the idea may be wrong, but theory brings out other great ideas.

I would say yes. But then it is part of the brainstorming process. However, we make sure as a team that we are not bringing down the person’s curiosity for giving new ideas. We go through the idea in quite detail or sometimes an overview and give a particular reason for letting the idea go.

Is there any recent product or idea that you wished rolled out a little earlier?

I think free internet is something that I wish was available a little earlier. Recently, companies like google and other government parties are providing free internet in some localities and cities. I wish it was there when I was in college, because at that time I really needed it but somehow lagged behind because of its absence.

I would go for smart phones. Smart phones have come very recently and have surely taken the world by storm. I wish they were present when I was graduating because it could have been so much more fun in college when you could just say whatever you felt and people could recognize you.

IELTS Speaking Sample Answers # Religions Of The World

Religion forms the basis of belief in many parts of the world and there are so many religions of the world and everyone teaches the way of reaching to God. Sometimes it is thought that the one thing that should have united us, God, has ended up dividing the world. There are people, hence, who believe in God but certainly not in any religion. Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to religion.

Is religion important to you?

Not very, I would say. I think I fall in the category of people who certainly do believe in God but are not very sure of religion. I think it is important to have a stable ground, which religion surely provides, because it gives you the code of conduct, which if people adhere to, they are more likely to do positive things in the world.

What is the main religion in your country?

Hinduism is the main religion of our country with most of the people in my country being Hindus. But, then there are several other religions, which are celebrated across the country, from Buddhism to Jainism and Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and lot more. It is the existence of so many religions that make India unique.

Why do you think religion is important in our lives ?

I believe religion teaches you how to live, it teaches you to have faith in a bigger eye than yours. It teaches people how to be better individuals and make them understand the meaning of life. A person following a religion is able to have a balanced life, because following the code of conduct of different religions, helps in making sure that the person does not do something wrong in the heat of the moment.

Do you have a religion?

Yes, I am born in a Hindu family, but in recent years, because of its negativity, I have come upon to question it. Presently, I am on a quest of figuring out what truly my religion is.

What countries do you think have religious freedom?

I believe every democratic country gives religious freedom, with India being one of the largest democracy. People in India belong to different religion and are able to maintain peace and harmony with each other.

Have you changed your religion?

No, I have never changed my religion, but I think when I start understanding my religion better, I think I will be able to accept it better.

religion

Can you tell us about your religion?

I belong to a Hindu family and my religion is Hinduism. Hinduism is regarded as the oldest religion of the world and is the third largest religion of all. We have got our vedic texts that we profoundly believe in. According to Hinduism, the universe was never created, it is something that has always been and that will always exist. According to Hindu mythology, Shiva is the ultimate power. It is believed that it is Shiva who created Vishnu and Bhrama. There are several theories about how the universe was created in the Hindu religion and there are several Gods and stories that we tend to believe in. However, there is one thing for sure, that in a temple and in doing the temple chorus, one can find eternal peace.

Have you ever been persecuted because of your religion?

No, I have never been outcast because of my religion. The main reason being that I have always lived in India and Hinduism is the major religion over here. But, then there are some friends of mine who have been told to step aside because of their religion. I remember a friend of mine, she was a Muslim and when she started the hunt for a house, it was very difficult for her to find a home. Some people directly told her to step aside because of her religion. Having said that I think there are different types of people, now the place she has got is in a society with majority Hindus and she is enjoying it.

Do you know someone who has gone to war for their religion?

I can remember the Leabnese Civil War that lasted for around 25 years, ending only in I think 1990. There were lot of religions involved and it is said that families affected have still not found stability. Apart from this, there is a constant fight between India and Pakistan for Kashmir, where some believe it should lie with Pakistan because majority of Kashmiris are Muslims while others thing it is the right of Indians to have it. No matter what, I think involving something as pure as religion in a fight, just takes away the faith of common person from something as great as God.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Important Day

Describe an important day that you celebrate in your country.

You should say:

  • when do you celebrate it?
  • what is its historical importance
  • who are main people involved in it?

explain how you celebrate the day.

There are lot of days in our country which have got some importance associated with them. From having relegious importance to being very important nationally, we celebrate these days with lot of vigor. One of these days is the republic day which is celebrated every year on 26th of January.

This is the day when the constitution of our country came into effect. Although, the country had made up its constitution and all the 308 members had signed on 24 January 1950, the constitution came into effect on 26-January. This was to mark the importance of 26th January. Two decades back, on this day the Indian people had started celebrating the Independence of the country, even before it had become free. To mark the importance of this event, the day was chosen to celebrate the republic day.

On this day, ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage. The event’s main lead is the President who unfurls the national flag and there are several a-list ministers invited. Along with them, a person from a foreign country is invited to be part of the event. On this day, several bravery awards are given and different schools and the the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force perform the beating retreat.

important day

Lot of more events are held and apart from the main event in Rajpath, it is celebrated across the entire country, with schools and colleges preparing for it for a long period of time. You can hear lot of patriotic songs being played all over the country.

Most of the times, I along with my friends go out to a historical place and figure out more about our country on this day.  Last year, I remember we all sat down to read the constitution of our country. It is always amazing for all of us to know more about a beautiful country like India, we are proud to  be part of.

There are several days which are important to the country and are celebrated with lot of excitement and preparations through out the country. One of the events is the “Rath yatra” that takes place every year in the month of July/June in Puri. This is the day it is believed that God comes out to meet his devotees. What is special about this event is that otherwise, people of other religions apart from Hindus are not allowed in this temple and when the deities do come out, people from all around the world come to see the God and touch him.

It is believed that the one who is able to pull the chariot gets to get rid of all his or her sins. And so people from all over the country come, bare foot to be able to touch the chariot in which the God is taken from the Jagannath temple to the place where they are assumed to rest for some time. There are lot of stories associated with this event. One is that one this day, Lord jagannath with his brother and sister go towards their aunt’s house and in the mean while they forget to visit Laxmi. So, on their journey back, their is this entire drama that takes place where Laxmi refuses to let Jagannath in the house.

One can find lot of plays being enacted for the audience. People watch them and cheer for their God. Every year, it is believed that stampede could be possible and people do die, but the excitement and the faith with which people come to see their God is amazing. People shout, smile and almost loose themselves to be able to just see their God, to touch them.

I visit the Rath yatra at Puri every year and have managed to pull the chariot lot many times.
