IELTS CUE CARD # Speak about a skill that was difficult for you to learn

Sample Answer :

I was always interested in playing harmonica since my childhood days. At that time, when I was barely 5 years old, my mother bought a harmonica for me, from a local fair. It was a very tiny one, for kids only. I often used to play it, in whatever way I could. Later, when I went for graduation, my elder brother gifted me another harmonica, this one with proper size and notes. I felt delighted to have that. Thereafter, in my second year of graduation, I joined a music class, where I could learn playing the mouth organ. Interestingly, teacher was blind but despite that, he has very proficient in so many instruments. It was there, in that Taal music academy, very close to my university in Dehradun, where I learnt this skill of playing harmonica.

So, it was my childhood interest and later, that gift by brother, which pushed me in learning this skill. I used to have 2 hours’ classes in the evenings, where I was taught the basics of music notes and the instrument, in the beginning. Later on, we moved to the art of playing the organ, actually. In class, we were just two students, so the teacher could spend enough time teaching me about my instrument. Well, learning this skill was a challenge and fun both, together. At moments, I felt the task of memorizing different notes for different music, a bit tiresome and even a boring repetition. But then, my perseverance and curiosity to learn stood firm to facilitate my learning. I was happy to follow my childhood hobby in this evolved manner. Overall, it was a great learning experience and terrific fun being in the company of music.

And yes, my mother intervened in between and held our horses then. I was thinking what exactly my mother would say at that point. For a gap of few seconds I even felt fearful whether she would support my father and with a majority stake, my parents would kill my dream of having that special bike. But then she came up with a new idea of gifting me the car instead of bike because of safety concerns. As I was free to pick up my choice of car and because of the safety features involved in it, I gave my consent. Surprisingly, my father who seemed a bit reluctant on any gift, agreed too.

I learnt my lessons for nearly 10 months. After that, I was in a position to play almost every famous song of Hindi cinema. I could attune with the newcomer songs and even invent my own feeble compositions time and then. My harmonica became my best friend and company. I never feel bored now, even if alone. Because, with my mouth organ, I am never lonely.

IELTS Cue Card #Describe an argument with your family member

Describe an argument with your family member.
You should say:

  • Who did you have argument with and when?
  • What was the point of contention and how did it ensue?
  • How did it end up? Was there any mediator?

and how did you feel about it then and now?

IELTS CUE CARD # Describe an argument with your family member

Sample Answer :

A particular idea, opinion, view or logic might not fit into the other person’s perspective as reasonable as in yours, and this sprouts the arguments. Sometimes, even in a family a particular issue may not go well with the other family members which locks their horns. In my case, I had an argument with my father, sometime back, when I was in my final year of graduation.

Well, I was demanding for a new sports bike to my father on the eve of my convocation. I already had a bike with me but my eyes were all set on the upcoming new model. It was my usual manner of demanding and I just came up with this idea of a new bike. My father initially seemed to be unbothered but suddenly he came up with a stern NO. At first, I was mixed up with the confusion but then, when I insisted, my father sprung up with arguments of the risks involved in plying a sports bike in my high flying young age. I, then, started rebuffing his points made and came up with my favourable arguments like My friends also have this bike, it saves travel time and kept on stressing my bent for the bike.

During the heat of our argument, I was feeling very agitated and upset. I was fearful too of not having that new bike. Even the pitch of my voice went high then, but later on, with the offer of my mother, I felt calm and happy with the idea of having a car instead. Now when I think of that argument, I feel a little tingly pleasure in the unilateral stubborn argumentative fervour of that young lad.

STRONG WORDS

Word Meaning
Rebuff abrupt rejection: Teacher rebuffed the students’ demand for an extra holiday.
Unilateral relating to a single perspective: Govt should consult multistakeholders before taking any unilateral decision.
Stubborn difficult to change: Children generally have a stubborn attitude.
Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 Why do we have arguments in a family?

Sample answer: Most of the times, argument centres over material things and resources. Generally, the children argue with the parents over these expensive things, which parents feel reluctant to buy for children at a young age. Sometimes, argument may ensue among the elders also regarding some decision and course of action.

Q. 2 Are family arguments disruptive to the healthy functioning of a family?

Sample answer: No, I don’t think so. Arguments always arise from the conflict of opinions, which is a very usual phenomenon, as all the members may not agree unanimously. But, once the heat of these arguments is steamed off, even more affection and love is built thereupon.

Q. 3 What are your views about arguments outside the family?

Sample answer: I think, one should avoid indulging in arguments and altercations outside the family. People in the society may not be receptive to our ideas and points of view and because of aloofness, it is very difficult for either party in argument to convince the other amicably. Therefore, this leads to the heated arguments and often the violent encounters. Therefore, one should avoid it.

IELTS SPEAKING TASK CUE CARD # DESCRIBE A T.V. SERIES WHICH YOU ENJOY WATCHING. Best IELTS Band 7 coaching in dehradun

SAMPLE ANSWER

The T.V. Show which I’m currently obsessed with is ‘Lucifer. It’s an American T.V. Series that was first premiered on Fox in 2016. The Show is about the life of the protagonist, Lucifer, who after being dissatisfied to be the Lord of Hell, resigns from his throne against the wishes of his father (God) and starts residing on Earth. He settles down in Los Angeles, where he ends up running his own nightclub by the name Lux and also guided the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department)

Lucifer, which was first broadcasted in 2016, has 5 seasons in total holding 24 episodes each. The show is broadcasted in every six months. After Fox cancelled the series, Netfix authorized it. The fifth and the final season is released in 2019.

The main actors of this Series include Tom Ellis, D.B. Woodside, Lauren German who play the book adaption characters of The Sandman. Out of all the actors, Tom Ellis who plays the character of Lucifer is my favorite mainly due to his charming personality, humorous dialogues and British accent.

The thing that interests me the most about the entire series are the celestial activities that take place from time to time among the biblical characters. The demonic possessions and their connection with the lifestyle of L.A. draws my undivided attention. The best part is although it’s fictional, the unrealistic characters appears to be so real to the viewers. Each episode has a new murder mystery to solve where Lucifer, Chloe and Dan work together. The thing that appeals to me was the mysterious ending of each episode where I couldn’t resist myself from watching the next episode.

OTHER OPTIONS-

The Show revolves around the Kapil Sharma and his team which includes renowned comedians of our country like Bharti Singh and Kiku Sharda. 2. ‘Friends’ is a globally popular T.V. Show which has viewers of different age groups. The storyline goes around the personal and professional lives of six friends who reside in Manhattan, New York. The series casts my all-time favorite actress, Jenifer Aniston, who plays the role of Rachel in the Show.

IELTS CUE CARD #DREAM COLLEGE/ UNIVERSITY

IELTS CUE CARD #DREAM COLLEGE/ UNIVERSITY

Describe your dream College/University.
You should say:

  • Where the College/University is?
  • What attracted you to this College/University?
  • What courses are you interested in?

and explain why you feel this College/University would be a dream to attend.

Sample Answer:

The University of my dreams would surely be the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Also previously known as Ingolstadt University. As the name itself suggests, this University is located in Munich, the capital of Bavaria state, Germany.

The chief allure for me is the region and language. You see, I spent a significant portion of my childhood in Germany. For me, there is nothing more beautiful than the German language and especially the culture that it promotes. And I am very lucky in that aspect; I can choose to enter the German taught or English taught courses as per my preferences.

Furthermore, this University specializes in the sciences. Besides being a science student myself, I know for a fact that few can compete with LMU’s excellence and education standards.

Likewise, another draw to this University, in particular, is its previous alumni. Namely, the 42 Nobel laureates that graduated from this very Institution. Not to mention the fact that the grounds can be dated back to 1472, which is just fascinating to think about. I can not even imagine walking the same hallowed halls as my idols!!

As for courses I am interested in, the “Bachelor of Sciences in Computer Sciences” sounds right up my alley. It is a three-year undergraduate degree course in Computer Science itself. In which I would learn about the fundamentals of computer science in theoretical, practical and application-oriented point of view.

Thus indeed, I do truly believe this University is the perfect choice for me. It is highly ranked with a significant international student ratio. Further, the faculty is world-renowned and the results truly do speak for themselves as well. With that in mind, it also helps that the school is state-funded, meaning it has ample opportunities for scholarships.

In the above, I have illustrated my reasons for believing LMU to be my dream university and the course I would want to avail.
