IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Art Lessons

Art is one of the most important aspects of our lives. It means being able to express oneself. So, a person who expresses themselves through music or through paintings or even through codes is called an artist. This time we are looking at some sample questions that were recently asked in the IELTS speaking section related to art lessons but particularly about art. These questions have been asked in PART I of the IELTS speaking.

Did you enjoy art lessons at school when you were a child? [Why/Why not?]

Art has never been my forte and so the colours and stencils never excited me. Naturally, art lessons were the ones I avoided the most My art book usually had an unfinished drawing or dirty paintings. THe ones where colours were used were not properly done or the strokes of the brushes were not cleanly used. I remember, during my art lessons I would fiddle around in the class or create a mess with my colours. There was no particular reason for it, just that art never struck me.

Do you ever draw or paint pictures nowadays? [Why/Why not?]

I usually don’t. Even if I am using colours it is either for making posters or colouring a furniture or a wall. There is no one reason for why I don’t draw. It is just that I find more peace when I am writing or reading so there is very less time left for drawing or colouring. It is just a matter of priorities.

When was the last time when you went to an art gallery or exhibition?

Ages, I would say. Thinking of it, I think the last time I went to an exhibition was probably a year back. I was visiting my home town last summer when a national exhibition on art and culture was held in my city. People from across the nation had come to showcase their art. Some did it through spectacular furniture, other with textiles or with the help of breath taking paintings. I visited the exhibition with my friend and we bought few paintings along with some regional sarees from the exhibition.

What type of art or paintings do you like to have in your home? [ Why/Why not?]

I am a naive individual when it comes to the technicalities of art and paintings. But, there are a few things when you look at them, you just feel connected to them. Like, I remember visiting an exhibition in Delhi two years back and while wandering across the ground, I went to a shop where the woman was selling self-made paintings on mud. There I found one with a woman having a pot in her hand, looking at the sky. I could relate to it and even now when I look at it, it gives me the motivation to achieve my goals and keep dreaming. But, also to remember the responsibilities that I have.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Photography

With the advancement in mobile technology, almost everyone in the millennial has become a photographer. In recent times, an upsurge has been seen among people in taking photography as a career. This time we are looking at some of the IELTS speaking questions asked in Part I related to photography.

Do you like to take photographs?

I am not a professional photographer and my interests vary for a career. However, I do like clicking photographs from my iPhone, either when I am travelling or at parties. For me, photographs are a mere collection of the memories made which I often display at my house of social media account. Taking those crazy pictures, sometimes hazy fill me with joy and remind me of the great times I had.

Would you like to study photography?

Presently not. I think there is already a lot on my plate. With a job at a corporate and being a freelancer leaves very little time for any learning. Also, my focus right now is on improving my writing and speaking skills. Having said that, photography is something I would love to learn but in the distant future and not immediately

How often do you take photographs?

Technology has made life so much simpler and convenient. With the smart phones, I believe it has become easier for everyone to actually capture amazing photos. The different modes that the present day smart phones give to its users for clicking photos can actually make anyone crazy and it surely has had an impact on me as well. I do almost always prefer clicking photos rather than taking notes. Like, photos of presentations or a note I’d like to remember. Could also be the times when giving farewell or any other party or of nature. I do click photos from my iPhone just about the moment I feel like clicking one.

Do you take photographs of yourself?

Not very often, I would say, but yes I do. Especially, when I have to go to a party, I click photos from my phone just to make sure that I am looking good. Also, it may sound funny, but I do take my snaps when I am sad. The moment I see myself depressed I cheer up. It is my way of fighting back and reminding myself that life is beautiful. And then there are times when I am bored. So, I usually go to those crazy Instagram features and make funny faces and take pictures.

Do you have any good family photographs?

Very few I must say. And from the ones that we have, most of them are really crazy! Almost all of them have at least one of us making a weird face. But, there is a photograph of ours where my parents are holding me and my brother in their arms and we are smiling solemnly and are parents are looking at each other. It really makes me feel good and is framed and kept in the house.

SAMPLE ANSWER

My graduation is in bachelors in Technology with IT as the major. Studying computers for four years,  most probably it will be an IT company that I go and join. There is a pool of IT companies in the present work environment, but I prefer coding and so most likely will be working with a product based company. The job profile is of a software developer and we would be working mostly on building products. Making either products or websites using different languages.

To be short listed for a job at an IT firm, a person needs to hold a degree in Computer Science or Information Technology. But, apart from the kind of education they receive, the most important thing is the individual must have logical and critical reasoning power along with certain computer skills. To gain these skills, I have even signed up for an online python course to ensure that I do know things about python and use the language to build strong codes.

In terms of focussed companies, I am looking forward to placements at Flipkart because there is more of web development in there and my knowledge of Python and HTML may help them to create better UI designs.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Health

Health is wealth! This is one of the most common phrases that we come across in our lives. However, we often ignore the most important aspect of our lives i.e. health. This time we are looking at some of the sample speaking questions asked in a recent IELTS exam related to health.

Do you have any unhealthy habits?

Sadly, a big yes. My work demands are as such that for most days coming back home is around 10 pm. By then, I don’t have much time for food and sometimes go to bed either an empty stomach or on ready meals. Coming back at 10 also means it takes around 2 till I sleep which also means I have no time for breakfast because I need to reach office as well. But, with time I am trying to make changes to my routine.

In what ways do you try to stay healthy?

For past few months, health has been the least of my priority and there is not much that I have done for it. But, in recent times, I have started jogging and also make sure that I do take the three meals of the day. There are certain things like milk and chapatti that I ensure are in my meal and also take proper breaks while working. In few months, I will be fit as a fiddle.

Is it easy to keep fit where you live?

Presently, I am living in Bhubaneswar, the capital of an Eastern state Orissa in my country. It is a pleasant city with a beautiful environment. With less of traffic and more of parks and greenery, even a walk or a jog in the near by park helps me to be more fit.

What do you think is more important: eating healthy or doing exercise?

In my opinion, doing exercise is more important than eating healthy. One cannot always eat healthily or eat the best food. But exercising ensures that even if there is an up or down in the kind of food, a person stays healthy.

What do you think are the health benefits of playing a sport?

A sport not only helps in the improvement of the health of an individual, it also ensures mental fitness amongst individuals. Learning a sport increases the learnability in an individual because there are different tricks and traps to be learned. The one who is able to master it can grasp lot many things in life faster. This ensures well being in the life of the person.

Have you ever had any habits which you consider unhealthy?

Looking back, there have been many habits I would discard straight away. One of them would be having alcohol; the other being smoking. Apart from these extremes, I had a habit of waking up late and skipping meals. Although, they don’t sound as major as the former, skipping meals surely has a psychological effect on our lives.

Do you think more about your health now than when you were younger?

Definitely yes. Earlier, it was my mother who was concerned about my health but now, it has all come upon me. Initially, there was a carelessness with this self-responsibility. But, with time, I have realised the importance of health and ensure that I do follow certain healthy habits in my daily routine.
