Dear ………..

Sample Answer

Dear Asha,

I hope you are doing well. It has been ages since I wrote to you. I was very busy with my board examinations. It is a big step towards my future. It seems to me as if the whole world is gearing up for a new beginning with unexpectedly surprising measures.

As for India, we are all demonetizing our ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes to battle black money. The expected amount to be ‘found’ is around £200 Billion GBP. Just take a moment to soak that all in. This is a gigantic move for India as sadly there is a lot of bribery and black money handling. Heck, every single person in India could be a mini millionaire if all of its wealth were to be distributed equally among its citizens.

Honestly, from my point of view the situation is pretty hilarious. As just yesterday people were trying to rake in as much money as possible, the bigger notes the better. And just in a matter of hours people went from gazing lovingly to simply hostilely glaring at bundles of money. Don’t you think all this is very humorous too?

But enough about my country, what about you? How do you feel about Donald Trump being elected? What new and unexpected things do you think will happen next?

Your buddy,
Diksha Ramola

IELTS Letter: Request for a new room/dorm

IELTS Letter: Request for a new room/dorm

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You live in a room which you share with another student. You have some problems with your roommate.

Write a letter to the accommodation officer of the college to change your room. In your letter

  • mention the problems you are facing
  • say how these problems are affecting you
  • request for a new room.

You do NOT need to write your own address.

Begin your letter as follows.

Dear Sir/Madam,

You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing you to request for a new room in the halls of residence as I am facing problems with my current roommate.

The biggest problem is that I am unable to study or even sleep in my room because my roommate has a lot of friends who visit him every day in the evening. They are quite noisy and bothersome. They listen to loud music and play cards till late night. The room has just become a place of entertainment for him and his friends. Furthermore, he often borrows my personal belongings like backpacks, electronic devices and clothes without asking me. I find it very annoying.

His irresponsible behavior has seriously affected my studies. I used to be a bright student in my school but I got average grades in the first semester. Because of these results, I have lost my confidence. I fear if this situation were to extend for much longer, I would have no option but to change my college altogether. For you see I am a student and cannot afford to live outside college or even have a drastic decline in my studies for that matter.

I have tried to talk with him about this issue, to no avail. And thus I find myself having to report the severity of this predicament and to bring it to your notice. I hope by doing so I might be relocated to a more considerable roommate’s presence or if possible not have a roommate at all. As you are probably aware, next term are the semester examinations. If I am found to be lacking in those, I might be asked to leave this college, which as I mentioned previously would be a harsh circumstance.

I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sagar Victor

IELTS General Training Writing Task 1: Letter of complaint

Writing Task 1 : Letter of complaint

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. You recently bought a piece of equipment for your home but it did not work. You phoned the shop but no action was taken. Write a letter to the shop manager. In your letter

  • describe the problem with the equipment
  • explain what happened when you phoned the shop
  • say what you would like the manager to do

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows: Dear Sir/Madam,

Sample Answer

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the inferior quality of a mobile phone which I bought from your renowned store last week. The first malfunction that I noticed in the phone was its short battery life. Its battery discharges within an hour of charging. Apart from that, the device becomes extremely hot when I charge it. I found another problem when I clicked some photos. Even though this phone has an eight mega pixel camera, the photos were terribly blurred. Initially, I thought my hand shook while taking the pictures. But, even after keeping the phone in a fixed position, the same problem persisted. You can imagine how unhappy I was to discover these technical faults in such an expensive model. Naturally, I contacted the store to report the problem. Your representative said that this model was out of stock and I would have to wait for a week for replacement. Unfortunately, I did not receive any information about the new stock arrival in the last three weeks. When I called the representative, he was unable to give a sensible answer to me. I am very disappointed with both the equipment and the service I have received. Therefore, I expect a full refund of 30,000 rupees as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully, Priya Chamoli
