You should say:

  • Its name.
  • How and when you would go there?
  • Who you would go with?

and explain why you would like to visit this city.

Sample Answer

I love traveling and exploring new places. Today, I’m going to talk about a foreign city I wish to visit. It’s London, the capital of United Kingdom.  Since London is about 7000 km from my hometown, the only viable modes of transport to reach there are water and air. If I were to choose between these two modes, I’d prefer a flight because it’ll take less time as compared to a cruise. From safety and economic points of view as well, I think going by air is definitely the better option.

Talking about the time when I’ll go to London, I haven’t yet decided, maybe in summer this year. I don’t know who I’d take with me but it would probably be some people that are close to me, I feel that visiting a new place is more fun if you’re with your family or friends. I’ll have a word with my parents and friends, whoever wants to come with me is welcome.

Coming to the many reasons why I want to visit London, I guess the main reason would be my fascination with history and art. You see, London is one of the oldest multicultural cities in the world. I’ve read about the changes which transformed this city into a center of history, art, business, and education through many of its conquests of the world. And thus, London is home to world-class museums and art galleries, all having a different and unique story behind them.

Other than that London also happens to have the oldest underground railway system in the world. To visit the most popular tourist attractions of London has been on my bucket list for a long time. These include the London Bridge, National Art Gallery, and the British Museum. I’ve heard that the bakeries in London are some of the best out there. I’d love to see what they have to offer.

Talk about a time when you teamed up with an old person

Sample Answer

Teaming up with an elderly can be a memorable experience. Today, I’m going to share one such experience with you.

I was in 10th class. The preparation for board exams was a never ending process. I found it quite hard to stick to a monotonous routine. Finally, the exams got over but they had drained my energy. All I wanted was a change in my daily routine. My parents were working full-time. They took many days off during my exams. Naturally, it wasn’t possible for them to take me on a holiday. At last, I asked my grandfather if he could come and take me to the village.

To my surprise, he came the very next day. I was very excited about my holidays. I packed my bag and we happily set off in the afternoon. We reached the village late in the evening. My grandfather showed me the house. Even though it was dark, I could clearly see some work was going on in the garden. My grandpa said we would work together tomorrow.

The morning was beautiful. After breakfast I went to the garden. It looked a little rusty and needed a make-over. My grandpa was building a bench. I observed him for a while and then joined him. The bench was ready in the evening. We decided to place it in front of the pond. Our next plan was to plant some new colourful flowers. He had already bought pots of many different shapes and sizes. So, I helped him in filling them in with soil and compost and planting flowers like marigolds, lilies and dahlias etc. We kept all plants at different places. I dug out a fire pit too.

Our garden renovation project lasted for more than a week. I loved it as each day was different. We could see the progress of our work which gave us a sense of fulfillment. Together we transformed a dull garden into a lovely outdoor space. All in all, it was the best time I’ve ever spent with an old man. I will never forget those holidays.

IELTS Cue Card # RIVER OR LAKE IN YOUR COUNTRY

IELTS Cue Card, Talk about an important river or lake in your country

Talk about an important river or lake in your country
You should say:

  • Which water body is that?
  • How do you know about it?
  • Why does it impress you so much

Sample Answer

Water bodies like rivers are of paramount importance for the survival of humans and other living organisms on this planet. Although my country has vast rivers like the holy Ganges and the mighty Brahmaputra , I’ll like to talk about the river Indus which is one of the longest rivers in Asia. I witnessed the beauty of Indus on my visit to Leh last year. Originating in the Tibetan plateau, the river runs a course through the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. Then it flows through the entire length of Pakistan before draining into the Arabian Sea. Going back in history, the Indus or Sindh river had a significant role in the development of the Indus valley civilization. The remains of ancient cities of Harappa and Mohenjodaro were found on the banks of this river. Indus merges with Zanskar river near a place called Nimoo , a few kilometres from Leh .The confluence point offers the most mesmerizing view which is a treat for the eyes. What is even more impressive that this river is the lifeline of people living in this otherwise arid and barren high-altitude desert. Indus remains frozen for almost a quarter of the year and locals provide ice skating facilities for the tourists. One of the locals told me that the blind Indus river dolphin is a sub-species of dolphin found only in the Indus river and is on the verge of extinction. Although Pakistan generates hydropower with the help of dams and barrages on Indus, there is none on the Indian side. In the end, I’d like to say that It’s our duty to conserve our precious water resources for the sustenance of life on the Earth and for the betterment of future generations.(290 Words)

Sample Answer:

Life has all sorts of surprises for us which we keep getting from time to time. We find some of them overwhelming while some others make us sad and distressed. Today, I’ll like to talk about a mobile phone which I lost. I still remember that evening very well although it happened around ten years back.

I had gone to a local market that day to get some stationary for my upcoming exams. I stood on the counter and told the salesman to show me some gel pens and writing boards. I had my phone in my hand as I entered the shop but kept it on the counter to have a look at the stuff lying in front of me. In the mean time, a middle aged man also came there and asked for something. Then, he left in five minutes or so without purchasing anything. I didn’t sense anything at that time, I bought whatever I needed and paid the shopkeeper his due amount.

As I was about to leave, I just remembered to pick up my phone. All hell broke loose when my mobile was nowhere to be found. I searched all over the counter and even on the floor. The salesman told me that the man who entered the shop and left abruptly must be the thief. We tried to locate him on the street but he seemed to have vanished in the by lanes.

I just can’t explain that feeling when I lost something so dear to me. Certainly, I was shocked beyond words as right in front of my eyes someone took away my phone while I remained oblivion. Also, I was worried because all my contact numbers and other important details were in there. Then, I filed an FIR in the nearest police station and also called up my service provider to lock my SIM card.
This experience has made me more careful of my belongings and now I try to keep my phone as securely as possible.
