Describe a person, much older than you, whom you admire:
You should say –

  • Who the person is?
  • How you know the person?
  • How this person has influenced you?
  • Why you admire this person?
Sample Answer – One

It has been a pleasure to be able to meet so many great people around. Right from work to school to the place where I live. There have been people who have been successful in the eyes of others and then the ones who were right for themselves. But, the one person who I admire is Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple. Although, I have never met him in person, but I know about him from the books and documentaries made on him.

There is something about Steve Jobs that is so amazing that one could just be spell bound by him. From his story to the way he talks and the attitude that he carries, it is almost amazing. And the one thing that I really like about him is that was a born fighter. He never gave up and it is so amazing.

Anyone else in his shoes, would have easily quit when he was kicked out of his company but getting kicked out of his company did not stopped Steve Jobs, he went out and tried his fortune in other ventures and ultimately came back to Apple and then brought back Apple to what it is now. A company we look forward to. A company with principles that are so inspiring. He in so many ways has taught our generation how to lead life.

Sample Answer – Two

There have been several people who have influenced me in so many ways. But, the one person I think who actually brought about a change in the way I think is my father. There is nothing particular as to why I admire him but there are so many things that make me fond of him.

I have never seen a man more hardworking and selfless than him. He would go out and do things right and that is what he has taught us. Starting from a broken family to unfaithful relationships to broken trust to so much more. Being born in a poor family and then rising to do what he has actually done, I think it is truly amazing. There are others like Bill Gates, Sachin Bansal and Indira Nooyi who people think to be successful and yes they are but sometimes I believe had my father also got the right environment, where people would have pushed him forward rather than backward, he might also have had a bungalow near the beach.

But, inspite of that, in spite of the fact that his family has always been against him and there have so many struggles, the one thing that I love and admire about my father is that he has always been very positive. Positive about the things around him, about his life and his future which I believe is truly amazing.

IELTS Speaking Latest Cue Card# Lesiure Activity

The latest cue card is here and we are talking about lesiure activity that you enjoy doing.

Describe a lesiure activity you like doing.
You should say:

  • Where you do it?
  • Who you do it with?
  • Why you enjoy it?
  • And say what kind of people you would recommend that activity to, and why?
Sample Answer:

Today, I’m going to talk about an activity I enjoy doing in my leisure time. It may sound strange but I love watching Bollywood movies. On Sundays, I invite my close friends to my home for a high tea and all of us watch a film together. It is not always a latest movie. Sometimes, we prefer to see old blockbusters which ruled the hearts of millions of Indians in the seventies.
The main reason why I find this activity fun is that I work six days a week, Monday to Saturday. I hardly get time to meet my friends on weekdays. So, this plan acts as a perfect stress buster for all of us. It not only brings us together but also enables us to share our feelings and problems.
Since most of us lead a busy and stressful life these days, we should make sure that we have some time for our family members and friends. I believe that the communication over social networking sites is very different from face-to-face interaction. Online communication is affecting the way we interact with people and the type of relationships we make. It is also killing our ability to build strong relationships with people. Anyone who wants to bring a positive change in their life should try a cup of tea and an entertaining film with your loved ones. I reckon it will do wonders.

You should say:

  • who the person was
  • where the conversation took place
  • what you talked about

and explain why you found the conversation interesting.

Sample Answer-One

There are lot of conversations that we have, sometimes with our friends, the other times with our family members, but I clearly remember a conversation with a senior consultant at NRI consulting dehradun about my future Job. It was more of his love to make sure that I am able to do things in my life and my concern of being limited in some certain boundaries.

Consultant was trying to make me understand the importance of job and a good life. We were talking of the great people in our family and I remember out of no where, words started coming into my mouth. I was finally talking and talking about some serious things in life. I told him that for me it is about loving my work and doing it more often. It is about getting up every morning to do more of work and live life as it comes.

And this is not going to happen if I look for job security. For some reasons it was not coming out of my head and every word that I said was from my heart.

The reason the conversation is so important for me because when I look back at it after Two years of it happening, I realize that I never knew that whatever I am telling will be true and I will definitely live a life that is true to my heart and achieve things no one ever thought of.

It was this conversation that made me realize that to be successful in life it is very important to be confident, confident even in the darkest of hours.

Few months back, while I was in the training center, I was part of a SOFTEN initiative which was about teaching kids and interacting with them, most of those who had a rough past. While I was a volunteer there, I met a guy, he was our senior and we both were part of a team. So, we had these five people, most of them were child labors and me and Debashis, the guy, we were the ones leading the team.

So, the entire day we were telling the children about the games and the quizzes, teaching them things here and there and when the workshop got ended, me and Debashis went for a coffee near our campus. Now, this was the first time I had ever gone for a coffee with someone and had a real good time.

We talked about poor people, the down trodden lives of them and how they survive and are able to live their lives. We did shared the same opinion that assuming just because a person is not wearing good clothes, does not mean he or she is not to be respected. From the lives of poor we went on to talking about the work that we do for the organization. He was a part of the project of Boeing and had learnt so much more about aircrafts and he was fascinated talking about it and I was amazed by hearing his passion. The same way I did talked about lot of things here and there.

The reason I loved the conversation because it was more of listening and understanding. So, neither of us was trying to tell the other person what they had to share but we were more concerned about listening to the other person and responding to it. Also, it was from that conversation that I realized I could talk and interact with people in a good way. This confidence has helped me striking lot more conversations.

Tips

There are so many  people that we meet in our lives but then there are some with whom we end up having great conversations. These are the people who in some way plant a seed for a new future or a new path. The conversation could be about anything, right from sports or models or food or may be passion. IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # TV Presenter

Describe a TV presenter.
You should say:

  • who is she or he?
  • what programme does she or he present?
  • how does she or he present the program?

and explain why you like / dislike him/ her.

Sample Answer 1

I love watching TV shows hosted by presenters. Today, I’m going to talk about my favorite TV presenter. His name is Rannvijay. He hosts the most famous youth show called Roadies. Apart from being its presenter, he also takes part in selecting candidates for the show. He is one of the best TV presenters that our television industry has seen in almost a decade.

His presentation style is very interactive and people-centric. The way he connects with the audience in the show is amazing. Another things that I really like about him are his speaking style and fairness. His voice is commendable and when the participants are wrong, he finds it not at all difficult to tell them that they are wrong. At times, when any candidate experiences injustice, he is the first one to come forward. So, it is not just about reading the given script, but about managing the entire show, making sure that the candidate’s true color comes out.

In one of the shows, Rannvijay was also the participant and he played his part really well. There were times when he lost and the other times when he won.  But, the most important point was his never dying spirit. And this is the spirit that he tries to bring in the contestants and in some way in the whole nation. I really admire his talent.

Sample Answer 2

TV Presenter

Today, I’d like to talk about a renowned TV presenter. He is our country’s favorite TV show presenter, Kapil Sharma. His serial, Comedy Nights With Kapil is one of the most famous and funny television programs. Even people from foreign countries watch this show and come to experience Kapil live.

Kapil Sharma has changed the way comedy shows are hosted in India. Some people often say that he is the country’s finest comedian and one of the best presenters our industry has ever seen. There are many Bollywood stars who wait to come into his show and every movie that is about to get released is surely promoted on his show.

One thing that I love about him is that he knows how to make people laugh and the witty answers that he gives, it is truly amazing. At times, there are people in the audience who try to be over smart with him or maybe sometimes rude with the guest stars. Without losing his temper, Kapil Sharma cleverly deals with them and makes everyone laugh.

Kapil Sharma shows have two parts. In the first part, funny scenes are enacted in a family setting using dialogues, dance and music. In the second part, celebrities come to the show to talk about their life, achievements, challenges and their talent. Kapil and his team create a funny environment in which everyone gets engrossed.

I think one reason why everyone loves him and his show is because in some or the other way it strikes the chord. We can see some irritating and lovely characters in his show that we can relate to. And then, the dialogues are so amazing that people tend to repeat them in their daily conversations, making it a great show.
