SAMPLE ANSWER
[PARA 1]

I have heard numerous speeches, lectures, and commentaries throughout my life, but the one speech that still gets better of me and teaches me so much was the speech of Steve Jobs at Stanford. I remember, googling something about Steve Jobs a few years back because I wanted to know about him and fumbled onto his speech. There have been some speeches that I have heard before and some motivational videos that have struck me but nothing was better than his speech.

[PARA 2]

It was the commencement speech of Stanford graduate students and Steve chose to tell three stories of his life. The stories of connecting dots,
speech

He talks of how we need to trust whatever our heart is saying and whatever is happening in the present, because no matter what, all these things will certainly do connect in the future and if we do it in the best way, it is going to stay with us for a longer period of time. And the fact that our all learning are going to get connected makes it possible to be able to just trust at whatever is happening in the present and move on with life.

[PARA 3]

The next story was about love and loss. He talks of how he got fired from his own company and then went on to find love and create new ventures and finally return back to his own company. He speaks of the fact that if you love what you do, life is going to be beautiful. The third story was about death. “If you live each day as if your last, someday it will be right.” And it is very powerful because when you know every day that you may die soon, is when you start living life like never before. Finally, when he closes his speech, he says, stays hungry stay foolish. And I think it is a very powerful message.

[PARA 4]

It was after that speech that I started closely following Steve Jobs and I realized that there is a lot that can be learned from him. The way he lived his life on his three philosophies and that helped him create a new history for the world. The reason that I loved the speech was that he was not talking about hard work and sacrifice and things that people get scared off. He was talking about simple plain things, love and loss. There was no reason not to understand him and whatever he said just struck me in my heart because it was so damn true.

What are the differences between a political speech and a speech given by a non-political person?

I think these days there seems to be a blurred line between both because even politicians give speeches where they talk of the benefits of the listener. But, on a very close notice, I would say a speech given by a political person has a lot of promises involved but the one by a non-political person tends to have a lot of examples of how things were done and how you might follow them.

What are the important aspects of a good speech?

I think a good speech is the one that strikes you in your heart and forms an impression that lasts forever. I remember listening to Barack Obama’s speech and it was so wow, that you felt so much connected to it. There was a great content that he had written but apart from that, the way he delivered the speech was beyond imagination. It was as if he was on a one to one conversation with the millions of people sitting over there. So, I think a good speech is not just great content but also the way the person delivers it.

What do you think makes a person a good speech giver?

A lot of practice makes someone perfect in anything and that is what I believe in. I think if there is someone who wants to really give good speech that he or she should practice a lot and when giving a speech it should not be that you are trying to tell someone something, so the focus shouldn’t be on making the other person listen but on making sure that you speak from the heart and when that happens, people do listen automatically.

IELTS Cue Card Latest Question # Childhood Skill

We all are the ultimate result of the skills that we learn. There are people who can paint well and then some who can play games or for that matter write. And it takes the time to build those skills. Skills even as simple as typing can help people go a long way. This time let us have a look at a recent question asked in IELTS Speaking section.

Tell us about a skill that you have learned in your childhood.
  • What is that skill?
  • How has it helped you in your life?
  • Did your teachers, parents played an important role in nurturing the skill?
Also explain, if you think learning can be done best when someone gives their heart into it or they are forced to do it?
SAMPLE ANSWER

The one thing that has really helped me in my life is my control of keys on the keyboard. I learned to type when computers had yet not gained much momentum and we really did not know that it will be of so much use in the near future. However, I really am thankful to my father who helped me work on it. So, when other children were busy learning by writing things on their notebook, I used to make my notes on the computer and get them printed.

The entire thing came back to me only when I took up a job as a blogger. When one is writing something, it is good to have the entire focus on what needs to be a written rather than how it finally gets entered. My typing speed has not only helped me write better articles but also type them fast giving in the room for more assignments and so more money.

Even more, being a coder it is nice to have control on the keyboard. After all, it is a way by which you can actually interact with the CPU and get things done. Better control means things done faster and less frustration over petty matters.

I believe children need to be exposed to all the new possibilities around them and then let them decide what they actually want. Even if they are indecisive, they should be allowed to try their hand at more than one thing. With time, they as well as teachers and parents will know the one thing the child will be best at.

Sample Answer One

There are so many websites that I subscribed to and there are so many emails that I get every day but I remember, having to receive a mail about my selection for the Gartner.Inc. It was truly an amazing feeling because it meant I would be able to work with the best company providing BI services and it also meant I had proved my mark.

I can clearly recall, I was sitting on my couch with my laptop in hand and working over a new assignment that I had got and meanwhile, something just struck me. I went to my mail and started scrolling the mails. The mail that I got was of the previous day and it said that I need to sign some documents and then some other formalities before I could go and start my work at Gartner.

The reason it was very important for me because I had truly worked for it, sacrificing a lot of things that people of my age were doing. There were times when I felt exhausted and the other times when I just did not have anyone to talk to. On receiving the mail, I first called my parents and they were proud and I was happy. Finally, I could work on something that was creative.

Sample Answer Two

I am a travel blogger and just like any other job, initially, it is tough!  There are days, months when one is just giving his or her best and working on the blog, putting content and yet does not receives any money. I remember, when I started my own travel blog, it took me around six months before I started getting some decent amount of money. It was only with that money that I could make some other plans as well.

It was some time back and I was sitting on my couch, completely exhausted over a particular post trying to figure out something and worried about paying my bills. The landlord had come to my house sometime back asking for the rent and I had nothing to give. For the first time in years, I had really questioned my job and my decision to become an entrepreneur.

Lost in my thoughts, I opened my mail account and there was this mail from Google. Initially, I thought, it must be some random mail but later on when I started reading it, it was the mail regarding the number of viewers on my site and Google has decided to finally pay me for the services that I was doing and it was a check of 70000 rupees.

In a time when I did not have money, when I could not even think of surviving, when I had started questioning my dreams and my decisions, the mail was an assurance that I was on the right path and that I am meant to be successful and that the only thing that I need to take care of is my work.|

SAMPLE ANSWER 1

I remember buying my first laptop after months of saving. At that time, there were two kinds of job that I was doing, one was as a freelance writer and the other was of a Software Engineer. Although I could have bought a 30000 laptop from the earning of a month when the day came closer of actually buying the laptop, I for a second thought about it again and for some reasons decided not to buy a normal personal computer and decided to buy a Macintosh.

There was no definite reason for buying it. It is just that while I was about to buy my first laptop, something just came back to me. Some years ago while having a conversation with my uncle, I told him it is a laptop which is very important for me. I would buy myself a Macintosh as the first laptop.

The Macintosh that I fell in love with was MacBook Air. You could just go on doing your work in it forever. And then there is so much attachment with the machine because of his founder, Steve Jobs. I mean every time you work on a Macintosh it feels like you are doing great work and you are being unique.

I remember having saved for three months before I could buy a Macintosh and it took me many sleepless nights before it was mine and trust me the day it was mine, it was amazing, beautiful. Its features were so amazing that it has been six years since I first bought my first Macintosh and it is still running fine.

The reason that I bought it was that I wanted to know Apple better and it is when you use a device of a certain company that you are able to know the company and its ethics better.

SAMPLE ANSWER 2

I am a blogger and there was a time when I wanted to open my own travel blog. For me to be able to open and run an efficient blog, I required a camera. Having thought a lot about it and talking to many people, I decided on buying a DSLR. But, DSLRs are expensive and the one that I thought was fit for my job cost me around 50000.

During that time, I remember earning 35000 monthly and after having covered my expenses I was left with almost 15000 per month. It took me around 3 months before I could buy my first DSLR.

It is because of it that today I am able to click great photographs and also shoot videos. At that time, I felt as if I am spending money, but looking back at it I can surely say that I had done investment. My blog is now running really well and it is great to be able to make something new every day.
