SAMPLE ANSWER

Special days have great importance in all our lives, they make the boring and the dull and gloomy days pass by, all because of the hope for a special day. In the past few years, I have had many occasions where I felt my breath was taken away. The gratitude I felt for God and the people around me was immense. One such day was when I went to Shravenbelagola for a Jain festival.

The Jain festival happens once in 12 years and in it their God, Bahubali is showered with milk, water, and many other things. Lacs of people from across the country and worldwide come to pay tribute to the God. There are many media people from all over and it gets attended by politicians of my country.

I visited Shravenbelagola, which is 3 hours from Bengaluru, all alone. It had to be my first solo trip. Being in a completely new place, I initially was really scared, not knowing exactly where I would go or where would I stay. On the D-Day, however, I made friends, got to attend the event right from the top because of the passes they had, and free food, because it was a government event.

Coming back from the event, I saw people rushing and throwing each other to get to the top and I felt so special. It was that day I realized the importance of people in our lives. They make good things better and bad things good. Had I not made those friends, my trip may have been a failure.

IELTS Speaking Cue Card: A plan that did not work

IELTS Speaking Cue Card: A plan that did not work

Describe a plan you made but it did not work.

You should say:

  • what the plan was
  • when you made it
  • why it did not work
  • and explain how you felt when your plan did not work
Sample Answer

Planning is the essence of life. If plans are made carefully and comprehensively, in most cases they work but it’s not necessary that every plan we make will be successful. Today, I’m going to talk about a plan that failed.

I am a science student. Last year I passed my 12th class with excellent grades, A+ in all subjects. After completion of my final exams, my father contacted an overseas education consultant to discuss the courses for my higher education. Since my academic performance was very good, the counsellor gave us many options like Batchelor’s in Science or Business Administration or Computer Applications in Canada, Australia and Europe. It was a difficult task to choose from such a wide range of options. I and my parents thought about all of them. The final decision was to go to Canada for Bachelor’s in Computer Applications, commonly known as BCA.

I received a letter of acceptance for a 4-year course in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia. It was an achievement for me. At that time I didn’t know this happiness was short-lived and my dream will shatter like a vase.  To my surprise, it was an expensive course. We were expected to arrange about two million rupees for my tuition fees, accommodation and other expenses. My father applied for an education loan in a local bank in my hometown. Initially, the bank manager seemed quite willing to approve the loan but later on he kept on delaying the process. Sadly, my parents couldn’t arrange enough funds for my fees and we missed the deadline of fee submission.

You can imagine how I felt when I lost this opportunity. I was heartbroken and helpless. Had our loan been approved on time, I’d have become a graduate of one of the most renowned universities in the world. My parents supported me a lot and helped me come out of this painful experience. Now, I’m pursuing BCA in India. May be I could go abroad for a Master’s in Computer Science. This time I’ll make sure that I have sufficient funds before applying to any college or university.

IELTS Speaking part 3 questions related to arriving early or late

IELTS Speaking part 3 questions related to arriving early/late

Q. 1: In what kinds of situations should people arrive early?

Answer:  In my view, those who are working or seeking jobs should arrive early for official meetings, performance reviews and job interviews. As far as students are concerned, they should be punctual for their classes or lectures.

Q.2: How important is it to arrive early in your country?

Answer 1: It’s a pity but most people in my country don’t value time. Arriving late is a norm. Be it a birthday party or a wedding ceremony or any other special occasion, guests are often late and hosts have to wait a long time for them to arrive. Not only ordinary people, even high profile politicians and celebrities are not punctual for public meetings or events.

Answer 2: People in my country give a lot of value to punctuality. They arrive on or before time for all meetings and appointments. In fact, social gatherings have timings and people happily stick to them.

Q.3: How can modern technology help people arrive early?

Answer: Modern technology can make a considerble difference in helping people to arrive early. Many commuters get stuck in traffic jams and get late for their offices. These days smartphones are equipped with navigation applications which display traffic conditions in real time on major roads and highways. Even suggestions for alternative routes are given. If people use these applications, I think they can reach in time.

Q.4: What kinds of jobs require the most patience?

Answer: In my view, patience is a vital trait that is needed in almost all kinds of jobs. But, professionals like doctors, nurses, researchers and teachers are expected to have a higher level of patience as compared to others. If these people become impatient, it will affect the quality of their work.

Q.5: Is it always better to be patient in work or studies?

Answer: As far as studies are concerned, learning is a gradual process and students have to be patient. It’s not possible to become the master of a subject in a short span of time. It takes years of efforts to develop an in-depth knowledge of any field. Regarding work too, I think people can perform better if they stay calm and concentrate on their work

Q. 6: Do you agree or disagree that the older the people are, the more patient they are?

Answer: I disagree with this view. In my opinion, people become more impatient as they age. I can give you an example of my grandparents. They are in their seventies. It’s quite hard for them to wait for anything, be it their meals or medicines, they want everything immediately. But, this wasn’t the case few years ago. I think this change in their behaviour is an effect of aging.

IELTS Exam IELTS Dehradun coronavirus

Sample Answer

Today, I’m going to tell you about an important message that I received last week. It was Friday afternoon. I was listening to my favourite song. Suddenly, a message popped up on my phone. It said: Urgent – Due to novel COVID-19 outbreak, all IELTS examinations across India have been cancelled. The information was sent by IDP: IELTS Australia, an organization which develops and manages IELTS exams in India and many parts of the world.

My IELTS test was scheduled the next day i.e. Saturday, the 21st March. At first, I couldn’t believe it because receiving fake news is quite common these days. Also, the cancellation came at very short notice, just few hours prior to the planned time.

IELTS is an expensive test. I’d paid the full fee of the test and it is non-refundable. Considering all these factors, it became necessary for me to check the authenticity of the message. I dialled the toll free help line number of IDP. The line was terribly busy. After trying for over 20 minutes, someone answered my phone and confirmed that the message was real.

I’ve been preparing for this exam for quite a while and I was eagerly looking forward to performing well in the main test. This sudden cancellation was very upsetting. I was cursing the COVID-19 pandemic for spoiling my plans. Sadly, there was no choice at all except waiting for the new date.

The day after, the government of India imposed a 21-day nationwide lockdown, as a preventive measure to control the spread of the coronavirus. It was then when I realized just how critical the situation was; I wasn’t the only one affected. Several other key exams were cancelled or postponed. This consoled me.

Now, I am at home doing my duty to remain fit and healthy, be hygienic and make the most of these rather unfortunate circumstances.
