IELTS writing task # What are the pros and cons of buying food rather than cooking food?

IELTS writing task

What are the pros and cons of buying food rather than cooking food? Give ideas about which is a better way according to you and why?

 SAMPLE ANSWER-

Modernization has influenced people’s way of maintaining a lifestyle. As modern working lives are getting busier, individuals tend to have less time to prepare a full cooked meal for themselves and their families. People buy food from outside as they do not get time from hectic schedules for cooking meals. However, purchasing food from the market has its own benefits and drawbacks.

Readymade or processed food is gaining immense popularity mainly because of the convenience provided by it. Purchasing food from outside saves time. The market has healthier options these days to choose from. For example, many outlets like ‘Subway’ mention the calories of food item therefore, people can choose accordingly. In fact, eating readymade food helps one to manage time more efficiently.

On the contrary, consuming food from the market has its own drawbacks. They can be expensive and heavy on the pocket as well. Food for the market is an unhealthy option as readymade food is oily and high in fat content. Furthermore, market food is low in nutritional ingredients and they are many cases in which processed food causes food poisoning. At times the ingredients are not fresh as the producers focus more on the appearance of the food rather than its freshness.

To conclude, though people today are occupied in their busy working schedules, they should take out time to prepare meals at home. In my opinion, eating readymade food can be regarded as a treat for the employed adults occasionally but the advantages of home-cooked food outweigh those of readymade and processed food.

Essay # The older generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think and behave.

IELTS Writing Task # Essay

The older generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think and behave. However, some people believe that these ideas are not helpful in preparing younger generations for modern life.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

SAMPLE ANSWER-

The generation gap is widening at a startling rate. The younger generation taking advantage of modernization and fast moving world are neglecting the traditional values given by their ancestors. They are inclining more towards modern ideas and beliefs offered by the contemporary world. I moderately believe that traditional ideas are useful but considering them entirely impractical cannot be agreed upon.

On one hand, some beliefs of our forefathers are becoming less applicable in modern lives. In the past, people were given jobs as their birth right but in the present times, jobs are offered keeping in mind the caliber of an individual. Further to this argument, caste and gender system that was valid in the traditional times is replaced by equality rights for everyone irrespective of their caste and gender in my country. In fact, many practices like Sati system and dowry system which were considered traditional in earlier days are removed from the society for good.

On the other side, our ancestors believed in humanity and it is our duty to take forward good values and beliefs we learned from them. There are some ideas and beliefs that are even applicable in the contemporary society. Values such as honesty, hard work, helping the needy are lessons taught to us by our forefathers and they need to be carried on.

In the end, I believe that people will lead a life full of solace and peace if they follow both contemporary and conventional ideas in their day to day activities. The traditional ideas cannot be completely irrelevant as they hold some importance even today.

Essay # Some people believe that if people are allowed to work after the age of 60, it could cause problems

IELTS Writing Task # Essay

Some people believe that if people are allowed to work after the age of 60, it could cause problems. Do you agree or disagree?

 SAMPLE ANSWER-

Most countries have a law that allows people to work till the age of 60. Though some people are not affected by this practice, others oppose it. As after a certain age limit, a person’s body does not allow them to work and be an efficient performer like their earlier days. I partially agree with the statement that provided that a person should be allowed to work after the age of 60 or not.

Most importantly, when a person is habitual of working, retirement can affect the mental and physical health of a person. The person feels more isolated and socially inactive due to which they lose a sense of purpose in life. Furthermore, living in today’s world is extremely costly and elderly people might not find their savings enough substantial to live a relaxed retired life. In fact, the people of Japan consider age 60 as an early age to retire.

On the other hand, some are of the opinion that people should not work after the age of 60 especially when they have worked a majority of their life. Increased workload can deteriorate the overall health after a certain age. From the economy’s point of view, if people retire at a later age it would affect the job prospects of the younger generation.

In a nutshell, people should not be forced to retire at the age of 60. They can be provided with a better option like part-time job or decreased workload if they wish to work. According to me, the quality of life is more significant than the age as there are many people in their 80s who are physically and mentally fit and are willing to work and be productive.

Essay # In today’s job market it is far more important to have practical skills than theoretical knowledge.

IELTS Writing Task 2 # Essay

In today’s job market it is far more important to have practical skills than theoretical knowledge. In the future, job applicants may not need any formal qualifications.

To what extend do you agree or disagree?

Sample answer-

Practical skills and theoretical knowledge are two completely far-off approaches to learning. While theoretical education will help one to get a clear understanding of the fundamental concepts and how a particular mechanism works. But without practical knowledge one cannot put their efficiency into practical usage. In my opinion, in today’s job market theoretical knowledge’s importance cannot be entirely overlooked.

Formal qualifications help a person learn why and how skills are used and implemented. It is more preferable in today’s job market as without theoretical knowledge tasks cannot be performed in a job. The theory is important from a job’s point of view because it gives a deeper insight into a context. In fact, professionals like teachers, lawyers, doctors cannot execute work without formal qualifications and a degree.

On the other side, some people disagree as they think practical skills are far more important for a person’s functioning at a professional place. Certain things can only be learned through experience and performance. For instance, for a designer or an artist practical skills like creativity and innovative ideas that they gain with training is more beneficial that theory. Similarly, there are many people who were college drop-outs but presently they are doing wonders in their lives.

In the end, theoretical knowledge and practical skills are interconnected as they complement each other. Therefore, though practical skills are given more weightage in the job market these days, formal qualifications should not be denied as it helps make an individual’s future career more prosperous.
