Sample Answer-One

There are lot of conversations that we have, sometimes with our friends, the other times with our family members, but I clearly remember a conversation with a senior consultant at NRI consulting dehradun about my future Job. It was more of his love to make sure that I am able to do things in my life and my concern of being limited in some certain boundaries.

Consultant was trying to make me understand the importance of job and a good life. We were talking of the great people in our family and I remember out of no where, words started coming into my mouth. I was finally talking and talking about some serious things in life. I told him that for me it is about loving my work and doing it more often. It is about getting up every morning to do more of work and live life as it comes.

And this is not going to happen if I look for job security. For some reasons it was not coming out of my head and every word that I said was from my heart.

The reason the conversation is so important for me because when I look back at it after Two years of it happening, I realize that I never knew that whatever I am telling will be true and I will definitely live a life that is true to my heart and achieve things no one ever thought of.

It was this conversation that made me realize that to be successful in life it is very important to be confident, confident even in the darkest of hours.

Few months back, while I was in the training center, I was part of a SOFTEN initiative which was about teaching kids and interacting with them, most of those who had a rough past. While I was a volunteer there, I met a guy, he was our senior and we both were part of a team. So, we had these five people, most of them were child labors and me and Debashis, the guy, we were the ones leading the team.

So, the entire day we were telling the children about the games and the quizzes, teaching them things here and there and when the workshop got ended, me and Debashis went for a coffee near our campus. Now, this was the first time I had ever gone for a coffee with someone and had a real good time.

We talked about poor people, the down trodden lives of them and how they survive and are able to live their lives. We did shared the same opinion that assuming just because a person is not wearing good clothes, does not mean he or she is not to be respected. From the lives of poor we went on to talking about the work that we do for the organization. He was a part of the project of Boeing and had learnt so much more about aircrafts and he was fascinated talking about it and I was amazed by hearing his passion. The same way I did talked about lot of things here and there.

The reason I loved the conversation because it was more of listening and understanding. So, neither of us was trying to tell the other person what they had to share but we were more concerned about listening to the other person and responding to it. Also, it was from that conversation that I realized I could talk and interact with people in a good way. This confidence has helped me striking lot more conversations.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Academic Research

With internet coming into the market, their are several options that have opened up for the students and individuals to learn new things. It could be either by watching television, or searching through web for the knowledge. No matter what, academic research has become an easy task for people with the coming of internet and educational television. Let us today have a look at questions that are related to how television and internet has changed the way academic research is being done.

Why are quiz programs popular these days on TV?

The main reason for quiz programs becoming so popular is because people have become more competitive. The other reason could be because most of the popular quiz shows have money involved in its prize.

Other than this, I think one reason for quiz programs to become so popular could be because they are fun to watch and then you can learn so much from them. They are designed to be fast-paced, and the duration is usually short. Also, there is no baggage along with them. So, you watch them, and learn things and if you miss an episode, it won’t affect the knowledge you will gain in the future.

What is your opinion about TV as an educational tool?

In my opinion, TV can be both, may be an educational tool and might not be one. I mean, it is more on the person who watches it. So, an individual can g o and watch the programs specifically designed to be educational in nature or may just go for the ones that are solely for entertainment purposes.

I believe like many things in life, it’s not so much the object but what you do with it. For example, there would be a lot of potential educational value if people watched a lot of documentary style programs and learned things about subjects they are interested in.

Even more there are quiz shows with general knowledge being its main theme and you can learn all of it in a very fun way. However, if people go about watching cartoons or other entertainment shows, it is entirely on the individual.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of television?

I think the main advantage of television is that it is mass product, so most of the people have access to the programs. So, it becomes relatively easy to communicate with population the major events and the required information, in different languages.

However, not everyone watches television for education. There are certain programs that are there to entertain you and they are very addictive. Often it has been seen that people leave their work for watching television. Also, television is not very flexible. So, there is a program that is schedule at a particular time and a person, if want to watch it has to see during that time only.

Academic Research
Do you think academic research is important to today’s society? Why?
Of course yes. Research is surely very important for the society. The real innovations and changes come from how we learn and develop our ideas. If a society does not do any  academic research, chances are they might take most of the things for granted assuming nothing great took any hard work. I think this stops the way for further development It is when people do academic research or developmental study that technology becomes commercially available.
Do you think the research findings should be accessible to all? Why?

If we talk of an ideal world, I think yes. The public has the entire right to know what is being done because in that way the common man will be able to get lot of information which is otherwise not accessible to him or her.

However, research related to may be military or a new invention regarding a drug, should be kept hidden. Because, one never knows how an individual can use the data available.

So, I think it is more of what is the data and if the research is such that it can be made public there should not be much of thought about making it public. However, if there is any sensitive information associated, there is no point in making it accessible to all.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Important Day

Describe an important day that you celebrate in your country.

You should say:

  • when do you celebrate it?
  • what is its historical importance
  • who are main people involved in it?

explain how you celebrate the day.

There are lot of days in our country which have got some importance associated with them. From having relegious importance to being very important nationally, we celebrate these days with lot of vigor. One of these days is the republic day which is celebrated every year on 26th of January.

This is the day when the constitution of our country came into effect. Although, the country had made up its constitution and all the 308 members had signed on 24 January 1950, the constitution came into effect on 26-January. This was to mark the importance of 26th January. Two decades back, on this day the Indian people had started celebrating the Independence of the country, even before it had become free. To mark the importance of this event, the day was chosen to celebrate the republic day.

On this day, ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage. The event’s main lead is the President who unfurls the national flag and there are several a-list ministers invited. Along with them, a person from a foreign country is invited to be part of the event. On this day, several bravery awards are given and different schools and the the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force perform the beating retreat.

important day

Lot of more events are held and apart from the main event in Rajpath, it is celebrated across the entire country, with schools and colleges preparing for it for a long period of time. You can hear lot of patriotic songs being played all over the country.

Most of the times, I along with my friends go out to a historical place and figure out more about our country on this day.  Last year, I remember we all sat down to read the constitution of our country. It is always amazing for all of us to know more about a beautiful country like India, we are proud to  be part of.

There are several days which are important to the country and are celebrated with lot of excitement and preparations through out the country. One of the events is the “Rath yatra” that takes place every year in the month of July/June in Puri. This is the day it is believed that God comes out to meet his devotees. What is special about this event is that otherwise, people of other religions apart from Hindus are not allowed in this temple and when the deities do come out, people from all around the world come to see the God and touch him.

It is believed that the one who is able to pull the chariot gets to get rid of all his or her sins. And so people from all over the country come, bare foot to be able to touch the chariot in which the God is taken from the Jagannath temple to the place where they are assumed to rest for some time. There are lot of stories associated with this event. One is that one this day, Lord jagannath with his brother and sister go towards their aunt’s house and in the mean while they forget to visit Laxmi. So, on their journey back, their is this entire drama that takes place where Laxmi refuses to let Jagannath in the house.

One can find lot of plays being enacted for the audience. People watch them and cheer for their God. Every year, it is believed that stampede could be possible and people do die, but the excitement and the faith with which people come to see their God is amazing. People shout, smile and almost loose themselves to be able to just see their God, to touch them.

I visit the Rath yatra at Puri every year and have managed to pull the chariot lot many times.

Sample Answer One

Our country is a secular nation where people of different religions live together. So, there are lots of festivals that people celebrate across the nation. But, I think Diwali is a festival that is celebrated all over India among people of different religions and customs.

Diwali is a festival of lights. Interestingly, its date depends on the Indian astrologers. But, normally, it is celebrated in the last week of October or the first week of November. This festival signifies the victory of the good over evil. The preparations and rituals typically extend over a five-day period, but the main festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu calendar month called Kartika.

It is believed that on this day, Rama, a Hindu god, came back to India after defeating Ravana, a demon. It was also the end of his 14 years of exile. Before Diwali, people clean, renovate and decorate their homes and offices. On that day, people dress up in new clothes or their best outfits and light up oil lamps made from clay inside and outside their homes. They participate in family prayers to Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

After prayers,  a family feast including delicious sweets begins. This is followed by fireworks and the exchange of gifts between family members and close friends. Diwali is important to me because it brings the whole family together. We are living in a world where people are migrating and have less time, but for us, no matter what the work is, no matter where we are Diwali means a Reunion. The entire family is together and we exchange talks and laughs together.

India is a land of different cultures and people from all walks of life call it home. It has many traditions, customs, and different religions. Festivals are an important part of a religion as they give us reasons to celebrate and different festivals have different significances. Even though there are many different festivals which are celebrated with great joy and happiness in our country, my favorite festival is Christmas. It’s a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ which falls on the 25th of December every year.

It’s that time of the year when the wind is cold and the woolen jackets are out. Schools are closed for winter break and the streets are lit up with lights of different colors. Luckily as I live in the northern part of the country I have been able to celebrate a few white Christmas over the course of years. My city has a lot of Anglo-Indian heritage so a lot of locals flock the church on Christmas Eve to light up a candle. It is beautiful to witness such communal harmony as the majority of the population in the city itself are Hindus.

It’s a great time for business and locals who work in the tourist sector as loads of tourist come to visit the nearby hill station. Shopping malls and local markets are filled with customers and plenty of attractive discounts are also available in these festive times. We celebrate with a traditional dinner at our home and all the friends and family gather to sing carols. Some great homemade wine is served to all those in attendance and we exchange presents with one another. In the end, it’s all about tradition and even though my entire family lives in different corners of the world, everyone manages to find the time and come home for Christmas to spend some great time with the loved ones. The spirit of Christmas brings us all together.
