IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a crowded place you have visited

You should say:

  • Where is it?
  • When you went there?
  • With whom you went there?
  • Explain how you felt about being there?

SAMPLE ANSWER

India is densely populated, so if we are stepping out of our homes we hardly find a place which is not crowded. I normally avoid visiting overcrowded places.

Recently a Shopping Complex was inaugurated in my hometown. It is situated on the outskirts. A lot of advertisements appeared in the local newspaper to promote it. One weekend I decided to visit the Shopping Complex with my friend. It was Sunday and we planned to go there in the afternoon. We reached the Complex around 3 p.m. I was in the mood of shopping clothes so we headed towards a clothes store inside the Complex. Both of us selected few garments and went towards the trial room to try the outfits.

Surprisingly, there was a long queue outside the trial room. I found it really funny.  My friend and I started giggling about it while waiting for our turn. After waiting for about 15 minutes we were able to try our clothes. Both of us selected a dress each and went towards the billing counter to make payment. On finding a queue there I started laughing again and nudged my friend while waiting for our turn.

As soon as we paid our bills we rushed towards the Food Court as we were quite hungry. It was 5 pm already and the Food Court too was packed with people. With great difficulty we managed to buy burgers and fries for ourselves. While we were eating, the crowd kept on increasing.

We quickly finished our meal as I started feeling suffocated. I rushed out of the Complex gasping for fresh air.

That day, I decided I won’t visit this Complex on a Sunday ever again.

IELTS CUE CARD : Describe a person who you believe is a good listener

IELTS CUE CARD : Describe a person who you believe is a good listener

You should say:

  • Who is that person?
  • How do you know him?
  • Why do you think he is a good listener?

SAMPLE ANSWER

It is true that being a good listener is a perquisite for being a good speaker. Good listeners are regarded as reasonable and logical while making decisions. I am an impulsive person who struggles to make decisions, my best-friend on the other hand is zen and wise. She goes by Radha and is unexplainably gorgeous with many talents. Her ability to listen is one of the things that draws others to her. Radha listens intently to others and make insightful recommendations. She makes everyone around her feel so at ease and liberated to express their opinions without the fear of being judged or criticised. There was a time when I was struggling to make a decision that would my affect my future.

I was facing trouble coordinating my thoughts so I reached out to different individuals, but sadly, none was able to assist until I got in touch with my bosom friend Radha. I would have gotten in touch with her sooner, but I didn’t want to involve her in the mess because she is majorly busy handlings lot of work. As usual, Radha listened attentively and offered a solution that really reduced my level of tension. I wish I could be like her sometimes. Radha is endowed with many good traits, but her ability to listen is particularly noteworthy. Being able to call Radha my friend is not less than a blessing.

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a festival that is important in your country

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a festival that is important in your country

You should say:

  • When the festival occurs ?
  • Why it is celebrated ?
  • What people do and explain what you like or dislike about it ?

SAMPLE ANSWER

India is a country of festivals and celebrations. But here I would like to talk about one of the most popular festivals of North India. It is called Diwali.

It is celebrated every year either in the month of October or November. The festival celebrates victory of good over evil and its historical significance is related with Sikh and Hindu religions.

According to the Hindu mythology, Diwali is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. The people of Ayodhya welcomed him by illuminating and decorating the place with earthen lamps.

The preparations of the festival goes on for a month and is celebrated with great pomp and show. People renovate, clean and decorate their houses. Houses are decorated with light bulbs and many people make floral or geometric patterns on the floor by using different colours, which is called rangoli. People exchange gifts and sweets with their loved ones. In the evening, people worship Goddess Lakshmi who is considered the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. Various delicacies including sweets are also prepared on this day. Children love to burst fire crackers and wear new clothes.

I too enjoy celebrating this festival with my friends and family as it keeps us connected with our tradition. The only thing I dislike about the festival is the bursting of fire crackers. It leads to air and noise pollution which leads to certain health problems among elderly and the young ones.

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe the time you admired the sky for the first time

Describe the time you admired the sky for the first time

You should say:

  • when and where was it
  • what led you to think about the sky
  • explain what your thoughts were while admiring the sky

SAMPLE ANSWER

Generally, we tend to ignore the bounties bestowed upon us by nature. In the daily hustle bustle of our life we sometimes forget to enjoy the basic joys of living. Looking at the sky and admiring its infinite space is one of them.

If I have to go back and recollect when I first admired the sky, it would probably be in my childhood. I used to live in our ancestral house with my parents, grandparents and uncles. There was a huge garden in front of our house. Power failures were common in our area. I vividly remember, when I was about 6-7 years old, one late evening there was a usual power cut. It was quiet dark and all my family members moved out and sat in the garden as there was no power backup in our house in those times.

I sat on my mother’s lap. Everyone was chatting and my mother started singing. She taught me a song about the moon and the stars. While I was learning the song I looked towards the sky. That is probably my first recollection of admiring the sky. I was intrigued by the endless twinkling stars and the big moon perched on a fluffy cloud. Even though I tried to count the stars, I couldn’t. I wanted to reach out to the sky so that I could have a closer look at the world up above in the sky.

I can never forget the magical view of the sky that evening. Going out and looking at the sky became a part of my childhood and those sweet memories make me happy even today.
