CUE CARD – Describe a time when you were stuck in a traffic jam

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a time when you were stuck in a traffic jam.

You should say:

    • When and where it happened?
    • How long you were in the traffic jam?
    • What you did while waiting?
    • And explain how you felt when you were in that traffic jam.
Sample Answer
Once, I got stuck in a big traffic jam on a super hot day. The cars hardly moved, and everyone was honking and getting mad. We didn’t know why the traffic was so bad. It felt like time was going really slow, and I was getting really impatient. I tried listening to music, but it didn’t help much.
While we were stuck, I saw how cars were trying to go around each other. Some drivers looked annoyed, while others seemed to get it. I even talked to the person in the car next to me about past times when we were stuck in traffic.
Finally, after a really long time, the traffic started moving again. It was a big relief to get out of the jam. This whole thing taught me that unexpected stuff can test how patient we are. Getting stuck in traffic showed me how people act differently in the same situation, and it reminded me that life can be really tricky to figure out.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)
Here are some examples of follow up questions that examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to cue card ‘Describe a time when you were stuck in a traffic jam’.

Q1. Are traffic jams common in your city?

Yes, traffic jams are pretty common in my city. There are so many cars on the road, and sometimes the roads need repairs, which can slow things down. When many people are driving at the same time, it can get really crowded and slow-moving. People here are used to facing this every day.

Q2. What can be done to improve traffic?

To make traffic better, we can have more buses and trains so people don’t use their cars as much. Fixing and making roads bigger would help too. Using smart systems to control traffic can make things smoother. Sharing rides and riding bikes could also reduce cars. And if people work at different times, there won’t be so much traffic all together.

Sample Answer

Once upon a sunny day, I saw a little kid who looked lost in a big park. The kid seemed really worried and was looking around with watery eyes. I went up to them and squatted down to talk, giving them a friendly smile. I asked if everything was okay and where their family might be. The kid slowly told me they got separated from their parents while playing.

In a soft voice, I said things would get better. I asked for their parents’ names and tried calling them, but nobody answered. I thought the kid might be getting even more worried, so I suggested we go to the park’s help center. Holding their hand, we walked there and talked to the people working. They made an announcement on the speakers, saying the parents’ names and where they were.

Not long after, the kid’s parents hurried to the help center, looking worried but happy when they saw the child. They hugged them tight and said thanks a lot for taking care of them. Seeing the family back together made me feel really good, and I was happy I could help when they were so worried. As they left, I couldn’t help but smile, feeling glad that I could bring some peace to the kid and their family.

CUE CARD – Describe an advertisement that you don’t like.

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe an advertisement that you don’t like. You should say:

    • When did you see it?
    • What it is about?
    • Where you saw it?
    • Why you didn’t like it?
Sample Answer

Advertisements are the heart and soul of business as it aids in generating the revenue and a good customer base. In this modern era, advertising firms are broadcasting their advertisements in a luring manner. Well, I am a movie buff. I vividly remember a time when I was watching a movie by being a couch potato on a lazy weekend, an ad popped up on my laptop’s screen and it was stating about a face cream which will eventually helps a person to become fair in complexion, which according to me was so demeaning because it was something promoting that fair complexion is all that matters. In that ad a girl who had dusky colour was worked out as she was not fair. So her friend came up to her and gave her the cream named FAIR AND LOVELY. Though that costed her an arm and a leg but she somehow purchased it and after applying it for one entire month she didn’t get any kind of change which made her even more sad.
After viewing these derogatory things I felt blue because complexion is something that an individual cannot change and should not even try to alter it. Complexion is an individuals identity.
