 Sample Answer

Books are man’s best friend. Books enlighten a small mind and help one become a better person. If given a chance to meet my favorite writer, I’d like to meet J.K. Rowling, the author of the famous 7 book series, Harry Potter. My childhood has been full of enchanting and magical stories, thanks to this worthy author. She’s been a role model since my childhood.

I’ve learnt a lot about J.K. Rowling. She first came across the idea of Harry Potter on a delayed train from Manchester to London. She got her manuscript rejected at almost 12 publishing houses before getting it finally published with Bloomsbury. Her first work was titled “Rabbit”. She has stated in several press interviews that the source of inspiration for her writing was her mother.

J. K. Rowling is also awarded as the ‘Most Influential Woman in Britain’. She is a single mother who thought of herself as the biggest failure until later she paved her way to being a multi-millionaire in the short time span of 5 years. Personally, she has a beautiful heart too. She is often witnessed in various charity events. One fascinating thing that I read about her in a blog post was that she actually had to go to a psychiatrist to handle the amount of success she was receiving. I found it hilarious.

I’d like to know her source of inspiration for the idea and theme of the story and characters portrayed in Harry Potter. I’d like to ask her several of her making and breaking moments and what actually kept her motivated even after so many rejections. I’ll ask her whether magic schools really exist and whether she has ever planned to attend one.

I have a list of reasons to meet her. Being an amateur writer myself I look forward to asking her lot of guidelines and hacks to improve my writing. I will also want if she can review some of my own written work and give me her valuable suggestions. Lastly, I’ll make sure that I tell her that I’m one of her biggest fans alive.

Sample Answer

Like many other children I too had to change my school when I was young. Today, I’m going to share one such time with you.
My father was an officer in the Indian army. His job involved frequent transfers from one place to another. I was in 7th class and my dad was posted in Dehradun. At that time I was studying in Army Public School, Dehradun. One day he received his transfer order for a city called Jodhpur. It’s a historical city in Rajasthan state of North India.

The children of the majority of army men in India attend central schools which are either run by the army or central government. Whenever government employees are ordered to relocate, their kids move to these schools. The process of changing school for children is normally simple and straightforward. Once you reach a new place, the kids can start their school immediately. For me that was around April in the year 1999.

This was a newly established school. Most of the facilities like swimming pool and playgrounds were still under construction at the time of my arrival. I did take some time to fit into the new environment, but soon enough I felt like I really belonged there. I made some great friends and had a great time overall.

Sample Answer

(Level Band9) Today I’m going to talk about a generous person who is well-known for his sincere efforts to help people from all walks of life. He is my neighbor Dr. Mehra, a physician. I have known him since I moved to Dehradun in 2000.

Dr. Mehra is in his 50s and he runs a clinic in the city center. Notably, he is an alumnus of the King George Medical Collge, Lucknow. Apart from treating patients in his clinic, he regularly organizes health camps in remote villages of Uttarakhand. His team distributes free medicines to patients and gives valuable advice to people about how to lead a disease free life.

This is a great help for village dwellers as medical facilities in these places are very poor. He has changed the lives of thousands of villagers in Uttarakhand. His determination to improve the public health in inaccessible regions is praiseworthy.

In fact, he is a role model for me. I met Dr. Mehra in 2000. Since we are neighbors, we know about each other’s work. I often accompany him as a volunteer in his health camps. Of course, if I am ill, he is the first person I call.

Cue Card # interesting news

IELTS Speaking latest cue card 2016.

Describe an interesting news about which people were very excited
You should say:
• what the story was
• who was involved in the story
• where you read or heard about this story
• And explain why this news story was interesting to you.

Sample Answer One:

I read the newspaper regularly. Today, I’m going to talk about a latest news that was exciting for many people.
The story was about India’s biggest test victory outside Asia. The Indian cricket team thrashed West Indies by an innings and 92 runs in the first test match. This was a challenging match as the opponents are known for their record breaking runs in test cricket.
I think this win was particularly crucial for the Indian team to prove their potential as the team was playing with a new coach. Apart from that, there were many young players who were participating in their first international test match. The result of this match was an achievement for the whole team and the nation.
Since cricket is a very popular sport in my hometown, almost everyone in my neighborhood was talking about this match. I found it fascinating because cricket is my favorite sport and I am the captain of my school team. We have played many state and national level matches. In the future, I want to be a part of the Indian cricket team so that I can bring laurels to my country. This thumping victory was very motivating and encouraging to me because I am a bowler and bowlers can be the game changers in this unpredictable game.

Sample Answer Two: (Writer: Akshay Tomar)

The other day I was browsing through the internet, when I read an article on some mind-blowing facts about Indian railways.
The article was about the maiden journey of Indian railway that was on April/16/1853 between Mumbai n Thane and its glorious history. Though, one theory suggests as per the archives of IIT Roorkee’s report on the Ganga Canal (1860) first train ran between Roorkee and Piran Kaliyar on Dec/22/1851.
The article was extensively covering about the history of India railways, as well some amazing facts were shared…… Indian railway has world’s fourth longest railway network, daily more than 23 million people travel with Indian rails. A train by the name “Fairy Queen” was certified by Guinness World Record as the world’s oldest steam locomotive in regular operations, in the year 1998. Under construction Chenab Railway Bridge, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is expected to be one of the highest railway bridge when completed. As well four of the Indian railway sites have been declared “world heritage site” by UNESCO, they are Darjeeling year 1999, Mumbai CST Building 2004, Neelgiri Mountain Railways 2005, Kalka Shimla Railway 2008.
Throughout the years that I have spent in my country, I never realized that we have such a glorious past in the terms of Indian railway and this article certainly makes me proud of my country and its accomplishments.(228 Words)
