IELTS Graph

Sample Answer:

(IELTS Lavel 8.5)
The bar graph compares the popularity of six activity clubs between two adult age groups at a particular leisure center.
OR
The bar graph provides information about how two age groups participate in six activity clubs at a particular leisure center.

One striking feature of the data is that the photography, fitness, and music/dance clubs are popular with both older and younger people. By Contrast, the cycling, arts and crafts, and gardening activities clearly appeal more to one of the age groups. The cycling club has the greatest number of 25-35 year-olds, but it is one of the least popular clubs with the older age group.

This trend is closely followed by the arts and crafts club which has 60 young members in comparison with only 20 from the 55-65 age bracket. In the gardening club, the pattern is reversed. There are about 55 members aged between 45 and 55 while the proportion of young participants is considerably lower. Notably, the composition of fitness and music/dance clubs is quite balanced, but there are slightly fewer older members. The membership of photography club stands at 45 for both groups.

In general, it can be concluded that some clubs attract both young and old people. Nonetheless, overall, the younger age group is significantly more involved in various activities than the 55-65 year-olds. (220 Words)

IELTS Essay – Alternatives to Fossil Fuels

IELTS Writing task 2 #Essay
You should spend 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
The exploration and development of safe alternatives to fossil fuels should be the most important global priority today.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer:

Fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas are the primary source of energy in the world. These fuels have fuelled almost all major industries and economies across the globe. Many experts propose that finding other forms of energy that are safer than these non-renewable ones should be the topmost priority of all the nations. I strongly agree with this view.

To begin with, the world has overused fossil fuels without paying attention to their detrimental effects on our natural environment. Global warming and soaring air pollution levels have become a threat to our planet and our existence. All nations are experiencing a change in their climate. Their citizens are suffering from diseases caused by hazardous air pollutants. Unquestionably, these are international problems and resolving them is beyond the capacity of any one nation.

Furthermore, the reservoirs of coal, crude oil and natural gas are depleting at a rate faster than ever before. The day when these sources will not be able to support us is not very far. Definitely, the way forward is global co-operation which will focus on the research and development of sustainable means of energy. Many wealthy countries like UK, Japan and USA are trying to reduce their dependence on non-renewable fuels. They are developing technology for other eco-friendly forms of energy such as solar, water, wind and geothermal etc. But, developing and poorer nations are not on par with them. I believe that co-ordinated efforts will be fruitful in bridging this gap as well.

Of course, there are several other serious global problems such as illiteracy, poverty, shortage of food and water, unemployment and terrorism etc. They are as important as exploring alternative sources of energy. Nonetheless, the efforts to repair the damaged environment should be prioritized before it is too late.

To conclude, the unquenched thirst for development and the rise in the global population have exacerbated immense pressure on fossil fuels. Personally, I believe that sincere efforts at a global level are required not only to meet the increasing demands of energy but also to mitigate the problems that excessive exploitation of non-renewable fuels has caused.(353 Words)

IELTS Essay: Free university education?

IELTS Writing task 2 Essay: Free university education?

Write about the following topic.
Students should pay the full cost of their own university studies, rather than having free education provided by the state.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Write at least 250 words.
You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Sample Answer

In the contemporary world, tertiary education has become paramount. However, a lot of deserving students are unable to enroll in colleges and universities because of financial limitations, which is really very sad. The only rescue for such candidates is the free higher education provided by the government. Some people argue that students must bear the cost of their university studies instead of utilizing the state funds. But, I disagree with this notion.

First and foremost, the tuition fee in universities is generally high. The cost of accommodation/hostel, commuting, examinations, books and stationery further add up to the expenses. Hence, if a person is not from an affluent financial background, it becomes very difficult for him/her to pursue higher education. Quite often, bright students lose the motivation to study in colleges or universities and instead start working after completion of secondary school. This is a serious flaw that deprives young adults of equality of opportunity and promotes discrimination in society.

Furthermore, tertiary education offers numerous benefits to individuals and society. College/University graduates have greater intellectual, problem-solving skills and civic mindedness as compared to their non-college counterparts. Higher economic and job security, improved standard of living, increased tax revenues and greater workforce productivity are some other tangible plus points of higher education. These factors are pivotal to the development of any nation. Free university education to all is therefore justifiable.

To sum up, education is a fundamental right to all. I believe that it should not be obligatory for scholars to pay their higher education expenses, especially if they are worthy of it. Free education to the needy is a great encouragement which should be promoted in the future. (277 Words)

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a work of art you saw

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a work of art you saw

Describe a work of art that you saw
You should say:
– when you first saw this work of art
– where you saw it
– what it looked like
– and explain your feelings about it.

Sample Answer

Art expresses the best things in life- simple and sweet, complicated and unknown. Today I’m going to talk about a newly unveiled local piece of art. I had the pleasure of coming across this masterpiece last week while going to the market- I just saw it in passing but that didn’t cease to amaze me.
It’s a magnificent statue of a great Indian ruler, Maharana Pratap and his loyal horse, Chetak. The king is holding a long spear in his right hand and the reins of the horse in his left hand. The horse has one of his front legs up in the air. The total height of the statue would be around three and a half meters. Craftsmen have used two different types of marbles: pale white for the platform and black for the main figures. The colour combination looks impeccable.

Coming to how feel about this work of art, it’s is an exquisite example of craftsmanship. Sculptors’ attention to detail is praiseworthy. Right from the size of the spear to the hooves, eyes of the horse, every small part of the statue is sculpted carefully. This work of art has increased the beauty of the region. When I look at it, it reminds me of our rich history and culture. We’ve forgotten the sacrifices of our warriors in protecting our nation from foreign powers. Such works can greatly help inculcate a sense of patriotism among young adults and children.
