Sample Answer

It is quite transcendental how we try to find the quiet in the fast-paced, chaotic world. Today, everyone is so busy with their work and in their own life that it is quite required to spend some good time in seclusion. Today, I would like to talk about a quiet place where I enjoy some alone time, away from the worldly pandemonium. The place is the Dashashwamedh Ghat, situated in one of the oldest cities of the world across the banks of the holy river Ganga.

I first came across the place when my father was posted to the city as part of his job, and it was a usual Saturday evening when I stepped out of my house with my father to witness the mesmerising Ganga prayers that were being offered by the people who came from across the country. It was at that time when I realised I found my peace of mind.

When I was residing in the city, I used to go there every once in a while, especially on the evenings when I felt I was emotionally drained and exhausted from maintaining the hasslesome work-life balance. Honestly, the place is more like my safe haven, and so, every time I go there, I sit on the stairs made across the bank of the Ganga with my legs dipped in the cold water, watching the sun go down, and the blue sky adding a hue of red and orange to it. I would spend hours there just so as to receive the tranquillity it provides to the mind and soul. Furthermore, I sometimes also enjoy doing some recreational activities like boating and yoga, which rejuvenates my mind and soul.

The reason why this place captivates me is the absolutely breathtaking calm blue water and the blue sky, along with the sun adding on its inexplicable beauty. The serenity of the place calms me down, and brings about the inner joy and bliss The place is a sight for sore eyes. It teaches me to find and appreciate the beauty in simple things that life has to offer.

Speaking – Part 3 (Follow-up questions)
Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to the cue card ‘Describe a quiet place you like to spend your time in’.

Q1. Is it hard to find quiet places in cities?
Definitely yes, because with every passing day, cities are growing to become noisier. It is becoming a compact space to survive, and somehow, people have become habitual to it. The tall buildings, high-rise apartments and industrial developments have dominated the place, leaving absolutely no space which individuals can find peaceful. Therefore, it is quite hard to find the quiet places in the city.

Q2. Why is it quieter in the countryside?
The countryside is the place where people often go to spend some good time in isolation amidst the verdant views of nature, surrounded by the simplicity of the village life. This is because it is far away from the clutches of the rapid urbanisation that is currently on the run. Thus, leaving the area more peaceful and pristine, with less pollution and fresh air.

Q3. Why do people go to quiet places?
There are abundant reasons for this. First and foremost, the lush green farms and the pollution-free environment. In the rat race of earning more money, people are so tired that whenever they get some leisure time, which is generally on weekends, they like to spend it in reticence by themselves rather than going to some noisy places and attending parties.
