Sample Answer

I think celebrations provide us a great opportunity to spend some good quality time together with our loved ones in a busy world. Today, I would like to talk about one such joyful event, which I organised successfully. The event was my parents’ twenty-fifth marriage anniversary.

Since it was a silver jubilee for them, I decided to keep it more intimate rather than celebrating it on a huge scale with all the relatives and friends. The party included only me, my younger brother, and my parents. I started preparations for it a week before the big day by placing an order for the chocolate ruffle cake, as it is my mother’s favourite, along with some other snacks and soft drinks. Thereafter, I went to the nearest street market and shopped for some basic home decor items. I also purchased a beautiful red Kanchivaram sari from a famous South Indian store, which I lined with a simple gold chain and golden bangles, for my mother. While, for my father, I bought a simple red kurta with a Titan watch.

My younger brother helped me a lot with the decoration part. He adorned the room with the colourful LED lighting, put up some balloons and painted the room mauve. Furthermore, he placed an order for the food, which mainly consisted of everything my parents love to eat.

I believe it was a successful event because my parents got quite emotional and hugged me for putting up everything so well. My father was really happy, as he was not expecting something like this, so well-planned, and he really loved the gift as well. We clicked a lot of pictures together, and recalling the day still brings back a lot of good memories. So, overall this was the time when I organised a happy event successfully.

Speaking – Part 3 (Follow-up questions)
Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to the cue card ‘Describe a time when you organised a happy event successfully.”

Q1. How can parents help children to be organised?
Parents can help children become organised from a very young age, provided they pay attention to their children. They can create a timetable for their children, which would help the child in having a more organised day, as each task will be assigned some fixed duration, thereby making it mandatory for the child to achieve his daily targets, not to mention that it would be contributing significantly to the overall development of the child.

Q2. Do people need others’ help when organising things?
I think it is more of an individual choice. Some people like to take charge of things on their own, rather than asking for help from others for the same. These are generally the perfectionists, as they want everything to be well organised. On the other hand, there are individuals who do not shy away from asking for help from others, as they may like to include everyone’s ideas and take opinions from everyone else so as to make the best out of it.
