Cue Card – Describe a time you received money from a family member

Cue Card

Describe a time you received money from a family member.
You should say:
● When did you receive it?
● Why did you receive it?
● What did you do with the money? and explain how you felt after receiving it.

Answer – I’ve received money as a gift on several occasions, especially from my relatives during festivals and on birthdays. However, one particular occasion that really stands out in my memory was when my grandmother gave me money on my birthday last year.
On that day my family gathered at our home for a small celebration, and as usual, my grandmother gave me some money as a gift. However, this time it was a much bigger amount than what she normally used to give me. When I opened the envelope, I was pleasantly surprised because I wasn’t expecting to receive such a huge amount at all.
The main reason she gave me that money was that she knew I had been saving up to buy a digital camera. I had developed an interest in photography and often talked about wanting a camera of my own. What touched me the most was the fact that my grandmother supported my interest and wanted to help me achieve my goal. Her gesture made me feel loved and encouraged.
Instead of spending the money right away, I decided to save it. I added it to the savings I already had and continued putting aside some of my pocket money. After a few months, I finally had enough money to buy the digital camera I wanted. Looking back, I think saving that money was the right decision because it helped me purchase something that I truly valued.
I felt incredibly happy and grateful after receiving the gift. Even today, whenever I use that camera, it reminds me of her generosity and the special bond we share. That’s why this gift remains one of the most memorable presents I’ve ever received.

IELTS Cue Card – A friend from childhood you remember very well

A friend from childhood you remember very well.

You should know:

  • When and how did you first meet this friend?
  • What did you like to do together?
  • What did you have in common?

Sample Answer

Friendship is a beautiful relation that touches everyone’s lives in a different way. I too have had many amazing people as my friends, especially during my childhood. I can recall many such friends who were very close to me, but the closest one was Smith.

He was my best friend for a better part of my childhood. I met him when I was 6 years old. He lived in the neighbourhood just two houses away from ours. I met him on the first day in the society garden. I was roaming about aimlessly when he appeared and asked me if I live here. We started talking and discovered a lot of common things to talk about. Soon became the best buddies for almost 7 years until his family moved to another state. We had a lot of matching thoughts and hobbies. We both liked playing video games, collecting comic books, watching cartoons; and reading stories, amongst other activities. We used to go to school and many other outings together. We also played and studied together at both our homes.

Our goals in the future were also the same, as we both wanted to become teachers when we grew up. We even had a similar taste in food and dressing ideas. This friendship was important to me to such an extent that I considered him my sibling more than a friend. He was the only neighbouring kid who I spent the maximum amount of my time with. The best part is all the memories that we created together and the fact that I still cherish them in my heart.
