How do Canadians speak?

You must wondering, what do I mean how Canadians speak? Surely they either speak in English or French. But then there are some words that they speak differently from others. For e.g. Canadians usually add a “eh” after everything they speak. And today, we shall see some of them.
Canuck: it is a word for Canadian. It is so famous that Canadians have a hockey name after Canuck. Hockey is a very popular game in Canada.

  1. Toque: It is a winter hat. Toque is a French word and is pronounced as to-k.
  2. 2-4: it means 24 beers in a case. Canadians, also have a holiday, named May 2-4.
  3. Mickey: it is the smallest amount of liquor you can buy in Canada.
  4. A “40”: It means alcohol of 40 oz.
  5. A “60”: It means alcohol of 60 oz.
  6. Poutine: It is French fries with cheese and gravy (beef, fat).
  7. Double-double: It is a coffee with two creams and two sugars. You use it when you visit Tim Horton’s. A double-double won’t mean the same in every restaurant.
  8. A dart: for the world, a dart may be a game but in Canada, it is a cigarette.
  9. Weed: it is a slang term for marijuana. Taking marijuana is not legal in Canada. So, if you are going to study abroad, better stay away.
  10. Eh!: a tag question. You would find Canadians speak a lot of ‘eh’. It is kind of similar to ‘huh’.
  11. New fie: new fie is used for the people who are from New Finland. They are regarded one of the most generous people.

So, if you are one of those who want to go study Canada, surely go and try a double-double or maybe poutine, stay away from weed and be a Canuck.

Prepare For IELTS

Do you know what exactly IELTS is? Do you know why you want to take it? Are you aware of the fact that it is not like any other competition that you give just because your parents asked you to do so? IELTS is not just an exam; it is the first step you take towards your dream. Make sure the dream is yours and not a show off. Because if it is a show off, remember you will have to pay a hell amount for that.

This in no way means that IELTS is scary. The simple fact is that once you get a good score in IELTS you would be going abroad. A new experience, different culture, new difficulties and you need to find new ways to solve them.
Assuming that you know what you are doing, and not just playing around, how to prepare for IELTS?
I say take the first step. Get to know what IELTS is about. What is the format of the exam? What are the different types of questions that are asked? Why do you want to take IELTS? Which version of IELTS would suit you? Once you are familiar with IELTS, go for the real preparation.

Mark a target for yourself. it could be a band 8 or a 9.
Go on find the resources for them.
Practice a lot. Take as many mock tests as you can.
Always remember, confidence is the most important thing. Have it in yourself. Don’t be over confident, but then never ever assume you can’t do it. Go, give your heart out to it, and see how the cards fall after that.

Follow Your Dream

You need a IELTS band 6 or above if you want to study in good universities abroad. IELTS is a tough exam and it is not easy to get a high band especially if you have a broken English. There are four sections of IELTS -Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. You really need to work hard, very hard to get in there.

I know you must have heard all of this. It may be the case that you don’t have a strong command over the language. Most probably because you haven’t done your education in an English medium school. But here I tell you the truth. You are no less than any one out there who knows English. IELTS like any other competition is like a competition. It hardly matters how good you are, what matters is how well you prepare yourself and how well you perform on that particular day.

It doesn’t matters whether you know English, what matters is whether you are ready to make efforts. Whether you are ready to read newspaper, listen to BBC news. What matters is whether you are looking at how good your competitors are or are you looking at yourself. Improving yourself day by day. It doesn’t matter how good others are but how good you are than your previous version. And yes, “you” do matter. Because it is your exam, it is your fight. You are competing with yourself. You are fighting for your dream.

So, anyone out there, who thinks that they cant do this because may be they are very poor at English. Or may there competitors are really good. stop thinking. And start doing. Take the first step. Don’t look at others. Be sincere, work hard and follow your dreams. You never know what surprise life has in store for you.

Don’t fear. Fly High. All The Best.
