IELTS Essay Sample Questions # Population Growth

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

A country is experiencing population growth and needs more homes. Should new homes be constructed in the existing cities or should there be new towns built for the purpose? Discuss.

Write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

The world has become a global village and with new opportunities rising we have shrunk to a very small area of possibilities. The population is exponentially growing and with urbanization, more and more people are moving to cities. As a result, the existing cities face living and housing crisis. Most people believe that cities must be developed more and extended to support the growing population. However, others are of the opinion that the government must focus on building new towns.

Constructing new homes in the city is more likely to make the city congested and difficult to handle. A large number of population at one place often means more traffic jams, higher crime rates, and congested public transport. Even more, the resources in the city are always limited. Having a huge number of population accumulated at one place would mean that most people do not have jobs or high-quality education.

On the other hand, developing towns will ensure that the population is well distributed throughout the country and development takes place in all realms of life. More developed towns also help in having a better quality of living and a higher economic growth of the country. For instance, having a town with all amenities is more likely to have several business and other job markets. One big business is often equivalent to 20 small. A developed town allows for the 20 business.

Developing cities will ensure that the people living in the cities have proper living but every area has its own limitations beyond which it cannot grow. However, expanding towns allows the country to have a well-rounded growth leading to a healthier and a richer country.

Dear Manish,

In the near future, I will be taking five days sick leave for a dental restoration. My leaves start from 28 September till 4 October. It has now become the need of the hour as I am facing trouble while speaking and the pain has become quite unbearable.

Even after the leaves, the doctor has suggested me to speak less for at least a month and so I won’t be able to do the customer calling section of my job. However, I can still continue with the backend work and handle the social media along with the other nitty-gritty aspects of my job.

It would be a great help if you if you could hire someone from contractual account to help in interacting with the new customers for a month. Otherwise, I would have to take a No Pay leave.

Dear Anish,

Last month, you visited our colony Adarsh Vihar, near Balliwala Chowk to sell the Ayurveda products. There were products for face, foot, and hair and you promised all of them to not have any side effects. On that note, I bought a foot cream: Heal the Foot for myself. It promised that I will no longer have any foot cracks.

However, on applying the cream, the cracks have increased for me. Not only that, sometimes the crack become so deep that it starts bleeding. Furthermore, a friend of mine bought a face wash for herself. She has noticed increased face marks on her face.

The product did not help us with our body and to make it worse also had side effects. I would request you to reimburse the money for the products bought. If required, we can return back the products.

Technology advancement has changed the way the world perceives things. With the coming of the internet and exponential progress in the hardware area, broadcasting of information has been redefined  From radio to newspapers to television, change has happened. Although the internet has now become the primary source of news, the importance of television cannot be denied.

Youtube and other internet channels have made getting what we need faster and more accessible. One can easily watch their favorite episodes online and the coming of web series has moved the youth towards the internet. However, the importance of television comes in when people need to watch things together. For instance, a world cup, most people wait for the time and make a group of people for the live telecast on television.
