Leisure activity with your family, How often do you do it? What do you usually do? Who do you do it with most of the time? Would you like to do more of it?

Sample Answer

I left home when I was seventeen and have never lived there full time since. My mother got sick last month and was admitted to a hospital. She was discharged three days later. I went to see her, but since I was very busy at the time, I couldn’t stay with her much longer.

I felt the guilt and asked my employer if I could get an entire week off to spend some quality time with my parents and help my mother recover. My leaves were sanctioned and I visited my parents with my wife. Since it was a surprise, they got shocked and my mother started crying. I took them out for dinner, and upon returning, made them a nice cup of tea, just as they like. My father is a big fan of Sean Connery, so I hired a DVD starring him. We didn’t go to the cinema as the doctors had advised my mother not to stress herself out.

Though it was nothing fancy what we did, but my parents and I had a really great time together. I have only one sister and as she works abroad, it’s very hard for me to spend some leisure time with her. It’s only my parents then who I would like to visit every month and have a great time with.

IELTS CUE CARD: DESCRIBE A GIFT WHICH YOU SPEND A LONG TIME TO CHOOSE/MAKE

Describe a gift which you spent a long time to choose/make

  • What it was
  • Who you gave it to
  • How you chose it and explain why you spent a long time choosing it

Describe a gift which you spent a long time to choose or make. What it was? Who you gave it to?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Choosing a gift for someone is not an easy task because we always want to make sure that the person receiving the gift really likes and appreciates our choice. For this reason, I always spend a lot of time to select the appropriate gift which suits the choice and personality of the receiver.

Today, I would like to share one such incidence when I spent a whole day to purchase a gift. It was my best friend’s 18th birthday. She was my classmate in Class 5 and since then we have grown very close over the years. Though I know her well but I was really confused about selecting a gift for her and thought about it for days. She is a voracious reader and I was unable to decide whether to gift her a book or something to mark her stepping into adulthood.

Finally, I decided to buy a book for her as I know she is a bookworm. Few days before her birthday I went to several bookshops but couldn’t find an appropriate book in spite of spending the whole afternoon. Eventually, I went to a bookstore which is in the suburbs of our city. Despite being far, it is famous for its collection. The best part is the owner recommends excellent books as per the personality of the readers.

I reached the bookstore by late evening and they were about to close. I requested the owner to help me quickly choose a book for my friend’s 18th birthday. He suggested a collection of 4 books which were a compilation of life lessons by a renowned author. I immediately bought the set and went home. When I gifted the book set to my friend she was delighted to have it. She thanked me and hugged me. I really felt happy to have spent so long to buy a special gift for her.

Music brings soul to so many people’s lives! It teaches us to enjoy life and in many ways helps us to move forward during the tough times of our lives. This time we are looking at some speaking questions about music.

Do you listen to music often?

Music has been a very important aspect of my life and it has helped me to go through all the sad and the happy times. It has not only taught me some great things about life, it has also taught me how to turn around things when nothing seems to be going right.

Do you listen to music when you are studying or driving?

I do listen to music while I am studying or driving as it helps in clearing my mind. The more I listen to music the more I feel relaxed. But, while studying if the work is highly important to me I prefer to do it in solace.

What kind of music do you prefer? Why?

Music is a great thing to listen and I usually prefer the songs that motivate me to be better individual. So, in my playlist it is all about all the motivational songs. There are some rock songs, some country songs and then there are even some Hindi songs.

Do you download music from website or buying a CD? Why?

I prefer buying music from the website, because it is better to store it in the phone than to carry a CD. Either ways, in our current world, the entire world is moving toward digitalization, so I prefer keeping my entire world at one place.

Do you think your taste in music will change in future? Why?

I am not very sure of it, but most probably it will change.

What kind of music do people in your country prefer?

Most people in my country are preferring the Bollywood songs over the newer English songs. However, there is also a good chunk of people who do listen to the Hindi old classics.

Do people in the present listen to the same music that people used to listen in the past?

Music has changed over the past decades. In my country, a few years back, people preferred more of classical music rather than the rock or EDM sort of music. But, with time the taste of individuals has changed. More people are today inclined towards music with lots of beats and mix of different cultures.

IELTS academic essay writing about Job Market

IELTS academic essay writing about Job Market

In today’s job market it is far more important to have practical skills than theoretical knowledge. In the future, job applications may not need any formal qualifications.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

In the present scenario, it is extremely important to have experience rather than just the subject knowledge. With the passage of time, practical skills are overpowering the value of formal degrees. In my opinion, skills and theoretical knowledge both are equally essential, which will be discussed in this essay.
Formal education provides an evidence that an individual is qualified for a job which also inculcates job-specific skills. We can not trust a doctor who does not possess a medical degree. For professions such as doctors, engineers, teachers, it’s essential to have a formal education otherwise it will put a question mark on their authentication. In addition, Educational achievements and income are associated to each other, better the education, higher the salaries. For instance, doctors, engineers, advocates are among the highly paid professionals, hence it is very important for individuals today to complete a college education.
On the contrary, any formal degrees can not prove that an individual is actually capable of the job in the real world situation. There are instances where better-educated workers also have lower rates of unemployment due to lack of experience and practical skills. Acquisition of new skills always adds weightage to one’s professional value. That is the reason why internships are gaining popularity these days. These trainings provide skills and hands-on experience to individuals.
To recapitulate, in an ideal case, both the education and experience are required for an individual to excel in real-world job situation. Academic knowledge helps in being more versatile while practical skills help in advancing your expertise. (260 Words)
