Sample Answer

Music is one of the most beautiful forms of art, and I listen to it whenever I am feeling the blues. Today, I am going to talk about a motivational song that I love listening to, whenever I am thrown by failures in life. The song’s name is believers, by the worldwide famous band Imagine Dragons.

The song really helps me get through the impossible days when it is really hard for me to get out of bed and kick off my day. It gives a very inspirational message about the failures of life and urges one to push one’s limits and go beyond them. It empowers me to rise like a phoenix from the ashes and keeps me going even at my worst. It put forth the never give up attitude in life even when everything appears to be the end of the world.

The song is quite popular across the globe and definitely forms a part of every individual’s playlist, especially the young blood. Like many other youngsters, I also listen to this song to work my way out through the hurtful days of life. Thanks to one of my close friends Niya, who suggested I listen to this song when I was going through some personal mid-life crisis. I was emotionally tormented by the loss of a family member and felt emotionally drained and mentally exhausted. At the time I also was not able to cope with the work and thus, my work-life balance was not very good as there was a lot on my plate. It was at that time, that I started listening to this song and overcame my demons. This song is meaningful in a lot of ways, as it is inspired by the band’s own personal struggles that they went through before actually gaining popularity in the mainstream.

Thus, this is a song that I found particularly interesting.

There is a myriad of music competitions that are widely popular as they are really enjoyed by people from across the remotest corners of the country. I think young people like listening to a lot of pop and hip-hop music followed by some rap music as well, which is slowly taking over the music industry. Young bloods these days want to listen to something they can relate to and not something that is superficial and fake. Thus, these are the kinds of songs that young people like listening to.

Q3. What kinds of people like to listen to traditional music?

Q4. Why do you think old people like old songs ?

I believe that old person like old songs because they do not relate to the songs that are presently in trend. Moreover, the old songs remind them of their era and their time when life was supposed to be very simple, unlike the modern competitive world. The old songs have slow beats and are full of life with a deep sense of meaning to it. They feel very connected to it. Therefore, old people like to listen to old songs.

    • Who he/she is ?
    • When you met him/her ?
    • Why do you want to know more about him/her?
    • And, how do you feel about it ?

Sample Answer

Over the course of my life, I have come across several people and I really love to talk to new people. So, today I am going to talk about one such person, whom I found very motivational, and thus, wanted to know more about her.

Her name is Selena Gomez. She is a globally popular American singer, who is known for her great contribution to the field of music, and her kind nature. I did not know her until one of my really close friends, Riya took me to her concert, which was held in California on a lazy weekend night. At first, I did not want to go, as I was really tired of the week-long office work and wanted to take a good nap. But she insisted on me a lot and so, I finally went with her. She was really excited to meet her, as she booked the exclusive front-row tickets for the show. When I reached the stadium, I was absolutely startled by the huge never ending crowd, that was present there, just to get a glimpse of her. We somehow managed to make space for ourselves and grabbed our seats.

The concert was an hour long, and she ended it with a heart-touching motivational speech, which really brought me to tears, like everyone else. Her speech moved me so much, that I really wanted to meet her and so, I requested Riya to take me and she was making her way down the stage, we finally managed to meet her in the green room. Even though it was not a long meeting, I was really jubilant that I met her.

Since then, I started following her on all her social media accounts, be it Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or any other. I really enjoy listening to all her songs, because I can relate to every single lyric that she weaves in her song. Her music lifts me up on my lows and serves as a reminder of the good things that exist in this competitive world. I feel that she is really a genuine person, who has worked really hard to achieve her dreams and is an inspiration for many people, especially the young girls out there to become independent and make their own choices. I absolutely adore this woman, because she has helped a lot of needy lupus patients by getting them treated with the necessary medical aid.

Therefore, she is the person I met once and want to know more about if I get a chance.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)
Here are some examples of follow up questions that examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to cue card ‘Describe a person you only met once and want to know more about.

Q1. How do people make friends in India ?

There are a lot of social networking sites, where people can get familiar with each other and become friends such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Apart from that, people make friends on special events, like, family parties or weddings and many other occasions, where individuals gather to enjoy the function.

Q2. Is it important to have the same hobbies and interests when making friends?

Well, I do not think so, because every person has his/her own perception of life. So, it is quite impossible to find someone who shares similar interests and hobbies as us. Moreover, it would become very boring for us to enjoy ourselves if someone has common interests. Therefore, in my opinion, I do not think that it is important to have the same hobbies and interests when making friends.

Q3. What qualities make true friends ?

I firmly believe that a friend is the greatest blessing a person can have in his life, and a true friend always sticks to our side, whenever we are thrown by the great adversities of life. A true friend will always feel happy for us on our highs and motivate us to never give up on our lows. He will make sure that we always choose to walk on the right path, and abstains from doing wrong things in life. Thus, these are some of the qualities which make someone a true friend.

    • And, how do you feel about it ?

Sample Answer

I think older people are the most experienced and well-versed in a lot of things that we as youngsters sometimes are not able to understand. Today, I would like to talk about the culinary skill, that I learned from my grandfather, as he is a great cook and loves to cook a plethora of cuisines, which I cherish a lot.

I was never into cooking before, until the day when I went to my grandfather’s house to spend my summer vacation holidays. I can still recall, it was a dull afternoon and I was just sleeping on a couch and suddenly my grandfather called me out in the kitchen and asked me for some help there. The beautiful aroma of the food was mouth-watering, and I asked him out of excitement if he could teach me what he was cooking. He instantly said yes, and enlightened me with the spices and other ingredients used in it, such as clove, turmeric, and red chili powder along with some healthy and fresh green vegetables. I really enjoyed learning this skill under his guidance, because unlike others he was quite patient with every mistake that I made and made sure that I did not repeat them.

Ever since then, I developed a keen interest in cooking, and, not only do I do it for myself but also love to feed others on special occasions with the handmade delicacies that I got to learn from him. I really feel that it was a jubilant experience for me to be able to not only learn this vital skill, but also I was able to spend some good quality time with him. This skill really made me feel happy, and I will always be grateful to my grandfather for teaching me and helping me gain a relevant skill to my skill set.

Therefore, this was a skill that I learned from my grandfather.

CUE CARD – Describe a time when you missed an appointment

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe something you received for free
You should say:

    • When and where did it happen ?
    • What was the appointment for ?
    • What happened when you missed it ?
    • And, explain how you felt about the appointment.

Sample Answer

Skilled people work with appointments. If you approach anyone without a prior appointment you may be disappointed. But sometimes, there are circumstances that cause you to miss a scheduled appointment. Today, I would be mentioning a time when I missed a very important appointment. After completing my graduation, I was looking for a relevant job to bear my expenses. I searched for various jobs on online portals. I luckily found one and immediately applied for the same. The next day, I received a call from HR. She explained the selection process to get hired. I will have to clear two hiring rounds, a telephonic round and Face to Face interview. I passed the telephonic round and was qualified to appear for the final round. The HR sent me the details about the timings and the venue. I was excited and confident about the interview. To avoid inconvenience, I left the house on time and was constantly on pins and needles. While commuting to the office, I got stuck in the tiring traffic congestion. I was getting this feeling that I would not be late and would reach the place on time. I tried contacting the manager to inform her about the situation, but I dropped the plan assuming it would not leave a good impression on her. After a while, traffic got cleared, and I took a sigh of relief. The moment I reached the address I quickly rushed into the office but was half an hour late on top of it I had left my credentials at home. I felt horrible and somehow managed to control my tears. I was scared but kept my finger crossed. The HR was not in a good mood and did not agree to proceed further with my interview. I tried to explain my situation but could not convince HR. That day, I learned an important lesson, if you want your time to be considered, you must respect others’ time. Being aware of the traffic problem in my city, I could have left my home early to prevent being late. Another lapse I committed was being reckless by getting over-excited. That resulted in leaving my credentials at home. That was one of the worst incidents I have encountered because of my negligence.
