IELTS CUE CARD #THE WEATHER

IELTS CUE CARD #THE WEATHER

Describe the weather.

You should say:

  • what the weather currently looks like
  • how the weather changes over time
  • how the weather impacts your daily life

and explain how the weather makes you feel at different times.

Sample Answer:

Right now we are in the Autumn season of fading October. The weather seems to be rather chilly, foggy, murky or grey if you will. In particular, the clouds have been obscuring the sun for the past week or so. Although thus far it has not yet rained properly, only slight drizzles have occurred that last for a quarter-hour at the maximum. Meaning that currently, I have to wear light woollens if I don’t want to freeze or feel numb.

Speaking of which, whenever I go out for walks I have noticed that in the mornings there is a cold stiff breeze and heavy fog. On the other hand, in the afternoons the clouds seem to give a bit of leeway, letting some feeble sunlight through to warm the frost off.

The days are overcasting and dark, which can sometimes affect my mood negatively. Soon however it will get even colder and glummer. Personly I don’t really look forward to winter seasons as the weather always becomes turbulent and unpredictable. During such weather I tend to feel lazy and unproductive, wanting to remain inside and inactive.

Rather I much prefer the fresh breeze of the spring, the warmth and welcoming atmosphere of summer. Similarly, there is no problem of humidity or unannounced rainstorms in these seasons. I always feel far more productive in the springtime, I seem to get a whole year worth of work done in a day! It appears my mood lifts as the sun comes and the breeze goes. Although I don’t seem to be affected much with the change in humidity levels since I learned to adapt my skincare routine long ago.

Overall, the weather is a very important governing factor on my mood and in my life.

Directors And Managers # Essay For IELTS

Directors and managers of organizations are often older people. Some people say that it is better for younger people to be leaders.
To what extent do you agree/disagree?
Write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

A generation ago, the big organizations of the countries were run by old people, the ones regarded as the experienced. However, with coming times, new ventures are getting established by younger people. With this, there are two opinions formed, some believe that an organization is better to run by older people because of their experience, however, others believe that younger people bring with them dynamism that is required for taking the organization to higher levels. I believe, what matters is the passion and the vision to take the company to newer heights.

Young people running a company bring with them great benefits. Firstly, they are more up-to-date and in touch with the modern world. This brings an added advantage to the organization in terms that they replace the more redundant work with the new better technologies. Secondly, they are often more dynamic and forward-thinking which makes them open to new ideas. Thirdly, leadership demands strength, both mentally and physically. Young leaders are often more fitter than their older counter parts making them a better choice for the role of a leader.

However, older generation has their own advantages. Firstly, with age comes experience which is very critical for the job of a leader. Even more, older people have more authority which is needed to manage and lead people. Secondly, the job of a leader is that of responsibility and this sense of responsibility is more often found in the older counterparts.

Overall, age is just a number. A leader is a person who has a vision and can lead a team. Both young and old people bring with them their benefits to the organization, however,in the end it is the passion to work that makes the company successful.

Future Continuous Tense # Grammar For IELTS

Future continuous tense is used to talk about events that will happen continuously in the future. It has two forms –

  • will be doing- The form of future continuous in this case is –
    will be+present participle
  • be going to be doing – The form of future continuous in this case is –
am/is/are + going to be + present participle

EXAMPLE-

  1. Are you going to be waiting for her when she arrives?
  2. Will you be waiting for her when she arrives?

Future Continuous Tense has the following uses –

To mark interruptions
Future Continuous is used to mark an interruption in the continuous event of future, by a shorter action in the future.
EXAMPLE-
I will be watching movies when she arrives.
I will be busy for the next two hours, call me only if an emergency happens.
In the above, the interruptions are marked by the simple present tense.
NOTE- Interruptions are in time clauses, and you cannot use future tenses in time clauses.
To represent parallel actions in the future
If future continuous is used in a statement with two sentences, it shows that both the sentences will be happening parallel.
EXAMPLE-
I am going to be studying and he is going to be reading.
To express the ambiance
Often future continuous is used to express the atmosphere of a particular place in the future.
EXAMPLE-
When we arrive at the party, everyone will be celebrating.
No future in the time clause
the Future Continuous cannot be used in clauses beginning with time expressions such as: when, while, before, after, by the time, as soon as, if, unless, etc. Instead of Future Continuous, Present Continuous is used.
EXAMPLE-
While I am going to be traveling, she will be studying. THIS STATEMENT IS WRONG.
While I am traveling, she will be studying. THIS IS THE CORRECT FORM.
