Use of the Third conditional for IELTS speaking

The students who appear for IELTS speaking tests are expected to use good grammar structure. In order to achieve higher band score, the candidates should avoid minor grammatical errors. Third conditional being one of it.

FORMAT: if + past perfect, …would + have + past participle

USE: when one has to talk about some event in past that did not take place. This is often used to express regret or assume the result of something that did not occur hence also known as ‘unreal conditions’.

 EXAMPLE-

  • If she had taken her medicines on time, she wouldn’t have felt sick. (But she did not take her medicines, so she fell sick).
  • He would have caught the train if he had left the house on time.

The sentences with the third conditions seems a bit negative than the first and second condition. It is a common error for candidates to put ‘if’ and ‘would’ together.

For example-

  • If you had left on time, you wouldn’t have missed the train.
  • If you had asked me, I would have helped you. ( for writing)
  • If you’d asked me, I’d have helped you (for speaking)

Technology is a crucial tool for communication in modern times. It is flourishing in each and every field of communication. Though this invention has changed the way people interact around the world, it has both positive and negative impact on the relationship of people.

To embark on, with regard to the positive development, technological advancement has made communication between organizations more convenient and time-saving. Many companies and organizations use tools like social media, email and forum to influence a larger number of audience. This also serves as an advanced mode of leaning since schools adopt the method of smart classrooms. With the availability of Ecommerce, freelance websites, social media marketing, people can easily buy and sell products and services with effortless communication.

On the other hand, the drawbacks of technology on the relationship of people cannot be ignored. Though technology has advanced greatly, it still lacks the emotional touch of communication. It has affected the love and affection people craved with communication. Millennial today are more fascinated by the virtual world, thereby forgetting the practical side of life. Modern modes of communication is making people busy and less productive. Sharing personal information of social media also invade people’s privacy. In fact, family vacation which was previously a private affair has now become a public affair.

To sum up, communication technology can be a blessing or a curse depending upon how people make use of it. Even though it is an easy method of interaction, the relationships formed through technological interaction lack in trust and emotion. Hence, people should give preference to face-to-face communication.

ESSAY # SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT MEDIA (SUCH AS NEWSPAPERS) SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PUBLISH INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRIVATE LIFE OF PEOPLE. Best IELTS Band 7 coaching in dehradun
SAMPLE ANSWER-

In today’s changing world of media and communication, everybody gets all kind of information through newspapers and other sources of the media. People take a keen interest in the personal and professional life of celebrities, politicians and other public figures. However, conflicting views arise about the excessive media coverage of individuals. Some find it acceptable while others are against it. In this essay, we will discuss both the views.

On one hand, publishing news about artists and politicians is good for their fans and followers. As the youths today consider cricketers, politicians and actors as their role models, getting a glimpse of their personal life is not harmful in any way. The difference between an artists’ reel and real behavior can be depicted through media and news. In fact, we get to know about a political leader’s social activities through media which helps us decide whether that politician is capable to rule or not.

Other the other hand, the public should not forget that celebrities and politicians are also human beings who deserve some privacy. Invading on people’s privacy can also lead to insecurity in their life. As many public figures have opponents and enemies, publishing private information in newspapers can have detrimental effects on their career. The overall productivity of the celebrities will increase when there is no such conflict.

To sum up, privacy brings security, therefore, the media should not invade people’s privacy for entertainment or profitable purposes. In my perspective, privacy is one of the fundamental rights, and the government should control if the media publish any inappropriate information.

IELTS Writing Task # Essay

Some parents believe that reading books for entertainment is a waste of children’s time. They think that their children should read only serious educational books. Discuss both views and give your opinion?

ESSAY # SOME PARENTS BELIEVE THAT READING BOOKS FOR ENTERTAINMENT IS A WASTE OF CHILDREN’S TIME. Best IELTS Band 7 coaching in dehradun
SAMPLE ANSWER-

With increased competition, children’s interest in reading has dramatically reduced. Parents want their children to only read course related books as they will help improve their grades. While some agree that children should read books according to their interests. In my view, both entertainment and educational books are important to increase a child’s knowledge regarding various aspects of life.

Many studies show that toddlers and school children who read according to their interests have a larger vocabulary and wider knowledge. Reading books of different genres helps children get to know their field of interests. In fact, painting and coloring books can develop a child’s interest in arts and other creative fields. When a child reads novels, short stories or fiction, it helps them to enhance their creative skills and imagination power. Hence, children will get valuable life lessons if they read regularly as they will not be restricted with limited knowledge related to the syllabus.

From the opposing point of view, with growing competition worldwide, parents want the best for their child. So they encourage children to read educational books which is beneficial for their career advancement. From the parent’s point of view, books related to the curriculum helps children fetch a higher score thereby securing their future.

In a nutshell, reading enhances a child’s memory and helps them to improve their concentration level and develop the overall personality. Instead of pressurizing their offspring to read curriculum books, parents should motivate children to read and engage in entertainment books thus keeping a balance.
