Example
In 2000, School B topped the list with about 85 students whereas school C and A stood at second and third position respectively with nearly 50 and 22 pupils. In the next 6 years, the number of students in school A remained constant. On the other hand, school B witnessed wild fluctuations in its figures which reached the peak at about 140 in 2003, followed by a gradual decline to 120 in the year 2006. In comparison, school C experienced regular fluctuations of the order of 10 percent. Nevertheless, the number of pupils in 2006 was roughly the same as in the year 2000.

Most of the people around the world study, making studies very like able topic to be asked in IELTS speaking. However, you will be asked the following questions if you say you are a student. Let us have a look at some of the possible questions.

 

IELTS Speaking Question 1: What are you studying now?

Answer A: Presently, I am studying liberal arts from the state university. It is a two year course and involves studying history, geography and economics. My major is in History, so most probably I will be taking more of history courses in the last semester of my course.

Answer B: I am pursuing my Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. This is my first/second/third/final year. After completion of my B.Tech I want to continue my studies.

 

Question 2: What is your area of specialization?

Answer A: I am specializing in Indian History, starting from the Ancient to the Medieval including the modern Indian history.

Answer B: Well, my area of specialization is Physics. If I have to subcategorize my area of specialization, then Electronics is the main subject I have studied at university level.

Answer C: I am specialized in Business Management. I have completed a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management. I chose this subject because I want to become an entrepreneur.

 

Question 3: What was your favorite subject in school?

Answer A: I loved English as young and I still love it. Those English literature stories have always aroused interest in me and made me read them more. I started writing when I was in class IX and too an extent I think it was my love towards English that has helped me shape my career.

Answer B: I have studied many subjects in my school. But, when it comes to my favorite, I would choose English Literature. My English teacher developed my interest in this subject through his unique teaching methodology. Not to mention, the subject is also incredible in itself.

 

Question 4: Why are you studying history then?

I earlier worked as a travel host and learning history helps in understanding places better. So, I opt for a course in liberal arts.

 

Question 5: What single aspect would you like to change in your school or university?

Answer A: I think may be the library of our university. We do already have a good library, but sometimes it so happens that the good  books are limited and get taken away. As, a result we have to wait for sometime to get the book or  buy it for ourselves. It has improved a lot from past few years, but I think there is still room for improvement.

Answer B: Although, I have been gifted some of the best memories of my life by my school and university, but one thing which I would like to change in my school is the sluggish administration procedure. It took a long time to complete official works like the declaration of results, mark sheets’ distribution and admission procedure etc. If my school can make these changes, it will be counted as one of the best schools in the area.

Answer C: Well, my university has established itself as one of the best educational institutions in the state due to its state-of-art facilities and world class faculties. But, in my opinion, if university administration can improve the security and parking services, it would be extremely helpful for the students and the staff as well.

Answer D: From my point of view, being a reputed institution, my school should surely improve its library. As the world is changing at a rapid pace, the library should also be up to date. It not only requires new books but also computers and printers.

 

Question 6: How do you think is education helpful to shape a person’s life?

Answer A: I think education plays a very important role in shaping a person’s life. There are so many a things education teaches. Beyond the course and syllabus, a student learns how to face problem, how to live with other people, how to make better decisions. Like, I have hosted few parties in my school time, and it helped me become a better organizer. And I think the better the education, the better the country is.

Answer B: Education is the process of transferring knowledge, abilities, values and skills from one person to another. It helps develop our personality and enables us to perform better in our life. Overall, it paves the way for a bright future.

IELTS Speaking # Sports

Sports have been an integral part of human lives for a long time and it is very much possible that you have read or played any of the games. Keeping this in mind, IELTS speaking section consist of questions related to games. Let us have a look at some of them.
Speaking question 1: Do you like sports? / Do you enjoy playing any games?
Answer A: Undoubtedly yes! There are many sports that I find interesting and fun. The reason behind this is their endless benefits. It is well-known that different types of sports contribute to good health and keep us fit and active.
Answer B: Definitely yes. I really enjoy playing both outdoor and indoor games, with cricket and chess being my favorite. I like them because they help me to relax and ease out the daily stress.
Question 2: Do you enjoy watching sports?
Answer A: It’s really entertaining to watch sports. In fact, I have subscribed to various sports television channels like Zee sports and CNBC etc. at my home. Moreover, I am a great admirer of cricket as my country has given many world-class cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Viral Kohli.
Answer B: Frankly speaking, I don’t like watching sports much. Basically, I don’t understand the rules and regulations associated with various sports which makes me a novice in this particular field.
Question 3: What kind of games do you play? / Do you enjoy participating in any sport?
Answer A: I really love playing cricket and chess. But I also enjoy kho-kho, table tennis, ludo and monopoly. I think playing monopoly or cricket with your family members is the best retreat.
Answer B: Yes! I love to participate in sports. In my school days, I even had the privilege of representing my state in National Badminton Championship. Apart from that, I enjoy team games like Volleyball and Basketball.
Answer C: To be very honest, I don’t have a keen interest in sports. Instead of participating in outdoor games, I prefer to sit at home and watch some music channels like MTV or VH.
Question 4: Do you think grown ups should play games?
Answer: I believe games and age have no connection. One can play any game whenever they like. It is the best way to do a physical exercise with some emotional advantages as well.
Question 5: What kind of games did you play as a child?
Answer: As a child, I used to play outdoor games more often than indoor games. We were a group of ten to twelve people and loved playing either hide and seek or kho-kho or go cycling. We even played badminton, football and sometimes dumb sharads.
Question 6: When did you first become interested in sports?
Answer: As far as I remember, there was a cricket match between India and Pakistan and my entire family was watching that on television. After sometime, the match became dicey and I also started participating in the conversation. That match fueled my interest in sports and I found myself close to the fields after that day.
Question 7: What games are popular in your country? / Which sports are most popular in your country?
Answer A: People in my country are crazy about cricket. You can see almost everyone playing and enjoying it. Apart from cricket, tennis and badminton have been some of the most watched games. However, with time, games such as football, hockey , boxing are also being watched and liked by people.
Answer B: Well, my country has witnessed the love for various sports. Athletics, cricket, hockey and chess etc. all have gotten the same respect in my country and people appreciate the hard work of sportsmen. But, I have noticed that most of the people are crazy about cricket.
Question 8: What according to you is the importance of mental games?
Answer: Mental games help and individual to enhance his memory and keep him mentally fit. Our brain has different sub parts and playing games such as chess, monopoly or vocab-builder allows the individual to keep all parts of the brain active.
Question 9: What do children learn from games?
Answer: I think it depends on what they want to learn. For instance, children playing cricket or football learn team work, time management, stress handling. Those who play chess or monopoly improve on their mental skills.

The following questions are the forward of the part 1 of speaking section.

Do you play any sports?

Yes.

What are the most popular sports in your country?

Good question. My country bleeds cricket. I think it is that one sport that connects everyone.

You can see children, adults, girls all indulged in it. So, either they are playing it or watching it. And the cricket sports people are treated like some stars. Although, there are even some who love football and it is even getting promoted commercially. I hope someday we will treat every sport with equal passion and respect.

Is it better to play sport or watch it?

I think it depends on the situation. For instance if it is a world cup or a major tournament it is a good idea to watch it but otherwise it is always better to play it. Playing sport helps in inculcating team spirit and is also good for health.

Can sport be dangerous?

Every sport comes with its conditions and securities. Not following them can surely land anyone into trouble. For instance, if you don’t wear a helmet while playing cricket you are more likely to get hurt. So, yes a sport and in that sense anything could be dangerous, if you don’t take considerations into proper account.

Do men and women play different sport?

Yes, but I think the gap is getting reduced with time. For example, although there could be more men playing boxing but then there are even some women who do play it. in general, there surely is difference. Girls mostly prefer, badminton or kho kho or volleyball or tennis. Men like to play football or cricket or boxing.
