Describe your favorite restaurant.
You should say-
• where it is?
• What it looks like inside and outside?
• What kind of foods they serve?
What makes this restaurant so special to you and others?
Sample Answer:
My city is home to numerous fast food outlets and traditional restaurants. Today, I am going to talk about a restaurant which I love.
My favourite restaurant is Countdown and it is situated at the centre of the city I am currently living in. From the outside the restaurant doesn’t look very impressive. It is located on the ground floor of a three storey building. It is quite big width wise, but not in terms of length. It has large glass windows at the front and vehicles are parked all around it. But once you step in, it is not only spacious but surprisingly well-organized and elegant.
They offer a wide range of cuisines including Italian, Indian, Thai, Pakistani and local varieties. This gives you a wide range of options to choose from.
I and many others who know about this place find this restaurant quite unique because of its delicious food and high standard of hygiene. Not only that the prices are also reasonable and the food is served quickly as opposed to some other restaurants where you will have to wait for a long time for your order to appear on your table. They also play soft background music which makes one forget about all the tensions and stress of life. The waiters and other staff are friendly and welcoming.
Unlike other restaurants, they even ask for feedback and customer complaints are taken very seriously. All in all, I think it is one of the best restaurants in my city and someone visiting the city should surely go there.

Animals are eclectic creatures; they go all the way from the very friendly and domesticated to the lethal and feral. They come in different shapes, sizes and colours. Even animals of a single species are incomparable to their counterparts due to the sheer number of differences.
Today I will talk about one of my all-time favourite animals; the horse. Like other animal species, horses too, come in different sizes and colors. Shetland ponies have a stockier body, round shape, thick fur, and short stubby legs, they are not much used in athletic pursuits. Arabian Horses, on the other hand, are taller, sleekly built with light bones, they are used exclusively for racing. Now, both of these are scientifically speaking horses, but are oh so different in appearance, nature and purpose.
Despite differences in their physical appreance, all horses have some things in common which earn them the top spots among my favourite animals. For one, their movements. Whenever a horse moves, I can’t help but admire the powerful muscles bulging and gliding beneath their coats, the sheer potential power they have in each step is breathtaking. The way they move is more elegant than most humans can ever hope to achieve. Their might is undeniable. For another, they are loyal, intelligent, and empathetic creatures. The bonds that a rider and horse may form is second to none. All these unique qualities make horses special to me.
Speaking part 3 follow up questions:
Q.1 Do people in your country keep animals at home?
Animals like cows, buffaloes and goats are domesticated widely in the countryside. In fact, livestock rearing provides sustainable livelihoods to millions of people living in rural areas.
Q.2 Do you think pets are important?
Yes, certainly. Pets can bring love and companionship into our life. Many studies have shown that keeping pets reduces our stress levels, thereby improving our health and well-being.
Q.3 Do animals have rights?
Humans use animals for food and related by-products, farming and a variety of other uses. Everyday millions of different types of animals are killed for food globally. Just by looking at these figures, I’d say that these creatures should at least have the right to live. But, who cares? Laws are made for protecting animals but they don’t work in reality.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 questions related to other cultures
The examiner can ask some questions about other cultures if your cue card was related to cultural differences or foreign countries. Let’s look at some possible questions which may be asked in part 3 of the speaking test.
Other cultures
Q. 1: How important it is to learn about other people’s cultures?
Answer: Learning about other people’s cultures is very important in today’s globalized world. Cultural knowledge is required everywhere, be it business or travel or work. If we are familiar with the culture of a place, we can understand people better. This will make our work and life easier in a new place.
Q.2: What difficulties can people living in a foreign country experience?
Answer A: In my view, the biggest problem which expats face is understanding the local language and culture. Loneliness, finding schools for their children, not getting the food of their choice and the weather are some other common difficulties which people experience in a new country.
Answer B: I believe the most significant difficulties about living in a foreign country would have to do with understanding cultural norms and unspoken rules, especially during social interactions. Misunderstandings can be common phenomena. Generally fitting in as well as feeling like you belong would be another big challenges.
Q. 3: What benefits can there be for people working in a foreign country?
Answer: Working in a foreign country offers both personal and economic benefits to people. At a personal level, they can enjoy a higher standard of living. Their knowledge about cultural differences and languages also develops. Professionally, the work environment gives them greater exposure which improves their professional skills. More importantly, international work experience which people gain is highly valued by employers.
A global culture
Q. 4: Do you believe in stereotypes about different nationalities?
Answer: It’s is a difficult question. In my view, the nationality and character of a person are two different things. Stereotypes about different nationalities are just based on people’s observations. They may or may not be accurate. I think that stereotypes don’t reflect reality. So, I don’t believe in them.
Q. 5:Are you in favour of adopting a universal language?
Answer: Certainly, adopting a global language would make our life easier. But, languages and cultures are inextricably intertwined. So, if we choose to have a common language, the cultural diversity will disappear. The loss will be irreparable. I don’t think it’s a wise idea to adopt a universal language.
Q. 6:What negative effects might come from a country losing its traditional cultures?
Answer: The loss of traditional cultures can affect a country in many ways. If there are businesses based on traditional skills, cultural loss can affect the economy of a country. Since traditional cultures represent a country, major changes in cultures can have an impact on tourism in that country.
Meanings of high level words
expat: someone who does not live in their own country
intertwined: twisted together or closely connected so as to be difficult to separate
Stereotype: a set idea that people have about what someone or something is like, especially an idea that is wrong

IELTS CUE CARD : Talk about a member of your family
You should say:
Who the family member is?
Why do you spend so much time with them?
How do you spend this time?
And describe the family member.
Sample Answer
We can choose who we spend time with and who we surround ourselves with, except for the people whom we were born among; our family. Whether we like it or not, the family will always be present throughout our life and play a critical role, even in absentia they will leave a memorable impression.
I honestly do not manage to spend all that much time with my extended family due to living away from them in the city. The only family I truly know is my parents. Up until recently both of my parents used to work office jobs, after quarantine they too were forced to stay at home like me. I found myself spending time more with my mother though. During our roof walks post-dinner we had debates on academic and practical subjects both. It’s fascinating to be able to debate two different world viewpoints.
Mum and I would help each other out with our respective pastimes, mine would be drawing and hers would be writing. I introduced my mother to some new books which I thought she would like, to my delight she loved them: Red Notice by Bill Browder especially. She told me all about the intricacies in that book, and I, in turn, showed her the fantasy universes of Percy Jackson and The Hunger Games too.
My mother comes off as a very uptight and strict person when you first meet her; someone you should not trifle with. However, it is after knowing her for my whole life I can indeed confirm that she does indeed smile, and she does in fact, have a silly side too. Sadly, she is not ticklish but one cannot have everything in their lives. I love both of my parents dearly and I am very privileged to have such savvy and understanding people in my life.
Useful words and their meanings
In absentia
When you do something in absentia, you’re not physically present.
Uptight
nervous, anxious, or worried
Trifle with someone or something
to act without seriousness or respect toward someone or something.
Privileged
having special rights or advantages that only a small number of people have
Savvy
used to describe someone with practical knowledge and ability

Q4. What kind of families are most common in your hometown?
Q5. How important is the family bonding for you?
Q6. What is your favorite memory with your family members?
What are the things that you like to do together as a family?
Apart from talking about what is going on in our lives, I think eating and travelling are the two things we love to do together. To an extent it brings the feeling of togetherness among all of us. It is in dinner time that we laugh together and bring out issues or share things with each other. Also, travelling is a time we enjoy together. Exploring a new place with people who care for you is always nice and warming.
Do you get along well with your family?
We do have our sister brother fights, but apart from that, yes we all enjoy each others company and really love and respect each other.
Are people in your country generally close to their family?
India is a very homely or you can culturally rich country. So, we have the culture of children living with their parents and celebrating festivals together. To an extent all of this, makes people of our country close to their family.
What kind of families are most common in your hometown?
With the coming of globalization, people in my country have migrated a lot. So, most of the people leave their towns or cities to work in big cities like Bangalore or Delhi. This has lead to people living in nuclear families. However, there are still people who live in joint families.
How important is the family bonding for you?
I have grown up in an environment close to the family and have shared my sorrows and happiness with them. To me, family bonding and support is important. My work requires me to travel a lot and there are times when I feel alone but the support of the family is the only thing that keeps me going.
What is your favorite memory with your family members?
I remember going to our hometown with my family after a long time. It was a nice retreat because I went to the places I have grown up with people I love the most. We went on to visit the near by temples and spending time with our extended family. IELTSBAND7
