Describe a teacher from your past that you remember.

You should say:

  • What class the teacher taught you and how old you were
  • What the teacher’s special qualities and characteristics were
  • Why you remember this teacher.

Sample Answer:

A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instil a love of learning. Throughout our lives we meet several educationists and teachers and remember a few for the wonderful qualities that they possess. One such teacher that I can recall is Miss Shreeparna Basu. She taught English literature in my 10th grade. I was almost 16 then.

She was very well versed in various classical literature. She studied at the abode of art, Shantiniketan. She shared an immense love for poetry similar to mine. It was so fascinating to watch her recite all the melodies of Wordsworth and Shakespeare by heart. As a young reader myself, she proved to be the biggest inspiration in my post teenage years. She effortlessly explained the most scary looking paragraphs as if it was some pop song. She is a very patient and honest lady. I used to make her recite certain sonnets and verses for me after the school hours to which she’d always happily agree. She is also an artist. She is an enchanting painter.

She has helped boost my reading habit. She serves a major role in the developing of my vocabulary. She has also helped me improve my communication skills. She took the mind of a small child and influenced it with Elliot and daffodils. She always taught us to be good human beings. She taught us morals and ethics which as a young individual everyone must cultivate. I still remember her for her thoughtful suggestions and honest reviews.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Special days have great importance in all our lives, they make the boring and the dull and gloomy days pass by, all because of the hope for a special day. In the past few years, I have had many occasions where I felt my breath was taken away. The gratitude I felt for God and the people around me was immense. One such day was when I went to Shravenbelagola for a Jain festival.

The Jain festival happens once in 12 years and in it their God, Bahubali is showered with milk, water, and many other things. Lacs of people from across the country and worldwide come to pay tribute to the God. There are many media people from all over and it gets attended by politicians of my country.

I visited Shravenbelagola, which is 3 hours from Bengaluru, all alone. It had to be my first solo trip. Being in a completely new place, I initially was really scared, not knowing exactly where I would go or where would I stay. On the D-Day, however, I made friends, got to attend the event right from the top because of the passes they had, and free food, because it was a government event.

Coming back from the event, I saw people rushing and throwing each other to get to the top and I felt so special. It was that day I realized the importance of people in our lives. They make good things better and bad things good. Had I not made those friends, my trip may have been a failure.

IELTS Speaking Cue Card: A plan that did not work

IELTS Speaking Cue Card: A plan that did not work

Describe a plan you made but it did not work.

You should say:

  • what the plan was
  • when you made it
  • why it did not work
  • and explain how you felt when your plan did not work
Sample Answer

Planning is the essence of life. If plans are made carefully and comprehensively, in most cases they work but it’s not necessary that every plan we make will be successful. Today, I’m going to talk about a plan that failed.

I am a science student. Last year I passed my 12th class with excellent grades, A+ in all subjects. After completion of my final exams, my father contacted an overseas education consultant to discuss the courses for my higher education. Since my academic performance was very good, the counsellor gave us many options like Batchelor’s in Science or Business Administration or Computer Applications in Canada, Australia and Europe. It was a difficult task to choose from such a wide range of options. I and my parents thought about all of them. The final decision was to go to Canada for Bachelor’s in Computer Applications, commonly known as BCA.

I received a letter of acceptance for a 4-year course in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia. It was an achievement for me. At that time I didn’t know this happiness was short-lived and my dream will shatter like a vase.  To my surprise, it was an expensive course. We were expected to arrange about two million rupees for my tuition fees, accommodation and other expenses. My father applied for an education loan in a local bank in my hometown. Initially, the bank manager seemed quite willing to approve the loan but later on he kept on delaying the process. Sadly, my parents couldn’t arrange enough funds for my fees and we missed the deadline of fee submission.

You can imagine how I felt when I lost this opportunity. I was heartbroken and helpless. Had our loan been approved on time, I’d have become a graduate of one of the most renowned universities in the world. My parents supported me a lot and helped me come out of this painful experience. Now, I’m pursuing BCA in India. May be I could go abroad for a Master’s in Computer Science. This time I’ll make sure that I have sufficient funds before applying to any college or university.

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a work of art you saw

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a work of art you saw

Describe a work of art that you saw
You should say:
– when you first saw this work of art
– where you saw it
– what it looked like
– and explain your feelings about it.

Sample Answer

Art expresses the best things in life- simple and sweet, complicated and unknown. Today I’m going to talk about a newly unveiled local piece of art. I had the pleasure of coming across this masterpiece last week while going to the market- I just saw it in passing but that didn’t cease to amaze me.
It’s a magnificent statue of a great Indian ruler, Maharana Pratap and his loyal horse, Chetak. The king is holding a long spear in his right hand and the reins of the horse in his left hand. The horse has one of his front legs up in the air. The total height of the statue would be around three and a half meters. Craftsmen have used two different types of marbles: pale white for the platform and black for the main figures. The colour combination looks impeccable.

Coming to how feel about this work of art, it’s is an exquisite example of craftsmanship. Sculptors’ attention to detail is praiseworthy. Right from the size of the spear to the hooves, eyes of the horse, every small part of the statue is sculpted carefully. This work of art has increased the beauty of the region. When I look at it, it reminds me of our rich history and culture. We’ve forgotten the sacrifices of our warriors in protecting our nation from foreign powers. Such works can greatly help inculcate a sense of patriotism among young adults and children.
