IELTS Writing Sample Answer # Culture

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Some people think that a person can never understand the culture of a country unless they speak the language.

Do you agree with this opinion?

Write at least 250 words.

Language is the medium of communication, a way in which people can interact with others and share their ideas and opinions. Although, some people believe that to enjoy and understand the culture of another place, one needs to be able to accept the cultural differences while others believe that it is very important to know the language of the place to understand the culture. In my opinion, language does plays a very important role in accepting the culture but it is not the only factor in play.

Culture

Knowing the local language of the place surely makes it easier to understand the traditions of that place. One a person can interact more intimately and since the people who know the most are the ones who speak their language, exploring the place gets a new dimension if you are fluent in the vernacular. Secondly, there are less chances of fraud and one can travel around the place alone if he/she can speak the language. For instance, a person speaking English might get into trouble with people who speak, say Kannada, as the wicked people might take advantage and either loot him/her or put in other problem.

However, the language can never be a barrier. Understanding the culture would then require a friend who is aware about the nitty gritty of the place. Even more, with internet in our hands and the entire information just a click away, roaming and understanding a place is lot more easier.

Overall, in my opinion, knowing the language surely helps in travelling and exploring the place. However, it is the will to understand the culture that ultimately plays the crucial role.

IELTS Writing Sample Answer # Early Reading

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Children who start reading earlier in their lives, perform better later in their school studies.

How important are reading skills for the child’s academic success?

What other pre school factors influence a child’s later academic achievements?

Write at least 250 words.

Reading helps in the intellectual growth of the child and the earlier one starts reading the better for the child. Although some people believe that the only way a person can grow is by reading academic books, I believe a person reading a varied range of books from early childhood is more likely to have a wide horizon.

Reading books from an early age has great benefits. One of the primary benefits of reading to toddlers and preschoolers is a higher aptitude for learning in general. For instance, a child who is able to understand the way words are put together in an early age is more likely to get a grasp of math and science. Secondly, it helps in developing a stronger self-discipline, longer attention span, and better memory retention, all of which will serve your child well when she enters school.

Even more, it has been seen that toddlers who read books tend to  grasp abstract concepts, apply logic in various scenarios, recognize cause and effect, and utilize good judgment.

However, the development of child is not entirely dependent on reading books. A person can help in the child for his/her development by teaching them the art of listening, so that he or she is able to grasp concepts easier. Even more, a child can be taught the art of interacting with people.

Overall, in my opinion, reading surely has a positive impact on the child and helps in the later years of life. However, one must not take for granted that just by reading the IQ of a child will improve, several other factors surely play the role.

Give your opinion.

Write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Computers have become an indispensable part of our daily lives. In fact, one cannot imagine to get through a working day without it. However, some people believe that the increasing dependence on computers is more likely to cause problems in future.

Computers have surely transformed our lives. It is believed that in future it will bring about great advantages to human race. Firstly, computer will enable to make human task easier. For example, cleaning of the home can be done with the minimum effort and time with the advent of robot maids. Secondly, it is more likely to transform the education system. Computers when combined with Internet, helps in broadening the subject area. Like, a student can not only benefit from what is given in the book but also understand better using internet videos and web pages.

Although, computers have helped the human race, it has also given rise to new problems. Firstly, cyber-addiction has led humans to become more isolated, inactive, and depressed. Secondly, accessing to some important data is costly, and users might be targeted by cyber crime and lose all of their saved data. For example, a user’s bank password might be hacked by a professional hacker and thousands of dollars might be stolen by him.

Overall, like every tool, computers although have helped us, have even caused some issues. In my opinion , we cannot stop using computers or even we can’t lessen the uses of computers. The development of technology will follow its own track no matter what we think about it. The only possible way is to make our way out of the negatives to the positives.

IELTS Writing Sample Answer # Success

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

The majority of people work hard in order to achieve success while for others it comes naturally.

Do you think some people are destined to be successful?

How can success be measured?

Write at least 250 words.

Every individual wants to be successful, although everyone has different meaning for success. Although some people believe that success comes quite naturally, others believe that anyone who works hard gets successful. In my opinion it is the middle way between hard work and nature that helps in being successful.

Bill gates said, “It is very important to be at the right place and the right time, to be successful.” So, for instance, according to him he was successful because he was doing the right thing i.e. computers when the boom of computers was about to begin. But according to a professor, it is not only important to be at the right place but to know that you are at the right place. Example- there were many people who got associated with computers in its early stage but left it because they thought it would be a loss. Even more, Bill gates was successful because he worked hard, he took the risk and went forward. So, is it destiny, yes sure but he is successful because he combined destiny with hard work and faith.

However, there are people who believe that they are successful purely because of hard work and anyone who is ready to do the hard work will be successful. Like, Lionel Messi. According to him, he realised that he loved football and then took every step that brought him close to being a football champion.

Moreover, success is a very relative term. For some people, being able to own a house is success, but for some owning a company is success. Some believe that success is having a family while for others it is being able to become a “sadhu”.

Overall, in my opinion, success is always grand if it is on your own terms rather than what is perceived to be by others and to be successful one needs to have both destiny and hard work.
