IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # TV Presenter

Describe a TV presenter.
You should say:

  • who is she or he?
  • what programme does she or he present?
  • how does she or he present the program?

and explain why you like / dislike him/ her.

I love watching shows presented by someone and the one presenter that I am really fond of is Rannvijay. He is one of the best TV presenters that our television industry has seen in almost a decade. The way he connects with the audience both inside the show and the one outside is amazing. He is the presenter for the most famous youth show, Roadies and apart from being its presenter, also takes part in selecting candidates for the show.

The one thing that I really love about him is the way he speaks. And it is not about the accent. The way he speaks, as in, the way he treats the candidates, when they are wrong he finds it not at all difficult to tell them they are wrong and in times when there is an injustice being met to any of the candidates, he is the first one to come forward. So, it is not just about reading the given script, but about, managing the entire show, making sure that the candidate’s true color comes out, in spite of the camera and they get the great content they produce.

Rannvijay was also the participant of the show and played it really well. He is even regarded as the true roadie because in spite of how hard the game was and how impossible the tasks felt, he did it. There were times when he lost and the other times when he won but what is more important is his never die spirit. And this is the spirit that he tries to bring in the contestants and in some way the entire nation.

It is his this nature where he is able to connect not only with the candidates but just by actions with the entire nation, that I love him.

TV Presenter

The one candidate that has come and changed the way the comedy shows are presented in Indian T.V is surely my favorite. He is our country’s favorite T.V show presenter, Kapil Sharma. His serial, comedy nights with Kapil is one of the most famous and funny television show, where people from even foreign countries watch the show and come to experience Kapil live.

Some people often say that he is the country’s finest comedian and one of the best presenters our industry has ever seen. There are Bollywood stars who die to come onto his show and every movie that is about to get released is surely promoted on his show.

The one thing that I love about him is that he knows how to make people laugh and the witty answers that he gives, it is truly amazing. There are people in the audience that tries to be over smart with him or maybe sometimes rude with the stars, but in a comic way, Kapil Sharma teaches them both the lesson and makes everyone laugh about it.

In his program, it is about a scene from his family. So, he is part of the play and the act is about the funny things happening in his family, the funny characters of his family and their funnier life. In the second half of the show, there is a guest that comes to his house and Kapil Sharma and the other characters try to be funny with them.

I think one reason why everyone loves him and his show is because in some or the other way it strikes the chord. So, you do find some irritating and lovely characters in his show that you can relate to. And then, the dialogues are so amazing that people tend to repeat them in their daily conversations, making it a great show.

Describe an important day that you celebrate in your country.

You should say:

explain how you celebrate the day.

There are lot of days in our country which have got some importance associated with them. From having relegious importance to being very important nationally, we celebrate these days with lot of vigor. One of these days is the republic day which is celebrated every year on 26th of January.

This is the day when the constitution of our country came into effect. Although, the country had made up its constitution and all the 308 members had signed on 24 January 1950, the constitution came into effect on 26-January. This was to mark the importance of 26th January. Two decades back, on this day the Indian people had started celebrating the Independence of the country, even before it had become free. To mark the importance of this event, the day was chosen to celebrate the republic day.

On this day, ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage. The event’s main lead is the President who unfurls the national flag and there are several a-list ministers invited. Along with them, a person from a foreign country is invited to be part of the event. On this day, several bravery awards are given and different schools and the the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force perform the beating retreat.

important day

Lot of more events are held and apart from the main event in Rajpath, it is celebrated across the entire country, with schools and colleges preparing for it for a long period of time. You can hear lot of patriotic songs being played all over the country.

Most of the times, I along with my friends go out to a historical place and figure out more about our country on this day.  Last year, I remember we all sat down to read the constitution of our country. It is always amazing for all of us to know more about a beautiful country like India, we are proud to  be part of.

There are several days which are important to the country and are celebrated with lot of excitement and preparations through out the country. One of the events is the “Rath yatra” that takes place every year in the month of July/June in Puri. This is the day it is believed that God comes out to meet his devotees. What is special about this event is that otherwise, people of other religions apart from Hindus are not allowed in this temple and when the deities do come out, people from all around the world come to see the God and touch him.

It is believed that the one who is able to pull the chariot gets to get rid of all his or her sins. And so people from all over the country come, bare foot to be able to touch the chariot in which the God is taken from the Jagannath temple to the place where they are assumed to rest for some time. There are lot of stories associated with this event. One is that one this day, Lord jagannath with his brother and sister go towards their aunt’s house and in the mean while they forget to visit Laxmi. So, on their journey back, their is this entire drama that takes place where Laxmi refuses to let Jagannath in the house.

One can find lot of plays being enacted for the audience. People watch them and cheer for their God. Every year, it is believed that stampede could be possible and people do die, but the excitement and the faith with which people come to see their God is amazing. People shout, smile and almost loose themselves to be able to just see their God, to touch them.

I visit the Rath yatra at Puri every year and have managed to pull the chariot lot many times.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Favorite Restaurant

Describe your favorite restaurant.
You should say-
• where it is?
• What it looks like inside and outside?
• What kind of foods they serve?

What makes this restaurant so special to you and others?

My city is home to numerous fast food outlets and traditional restaurants. Today, I am going to talk about a restaurant which I love.

My favourite restaurant is Countdown and it is situated at the centre of the city I am currently living in. From the outside the restaurant doesn’t look very impressive. It is located on the ground floor of a three storey building. It is quite big width wise, but not in terms of length. It has large glass windows at the front and vehicles are parked all around it. But once you step in, it is not only spacious but surprisingly well-organized and elegant.

They offer a wide range of cuisines including Italian, Indian, Thai, Pakistani and local varieties. This gives you a wide range of options to choose from.

I and many others who know about this place find this restaurant quite unique because of its delicious food and high standard of hygiene. Not only that the prices are also reasonable and the food is served quickly as opposed to some other restaurants where you will have to wait for a long time for your order to appear on your table. They also play soft background music which makes one forget about all the tensions and stress of life.  The waiters and other staff are friendly and welcoming.

Unlike other restaurants, they even ask for feedback and customer complaints are taken very seriously. All in all, I think it is one of the best restaurants in my city and someone visiting the city should surely go there.

IELTS CUE CARD SAMPLE ANSWER FESTIVAL

Sample Answer One

Our country is a secular nation where people of different religions live together. So, there are lots of festivals that people celebrate across the nation. But, I think Diwali is a festival that is celebrated all over India among people of different religions and customs.

Diwali is a festival of lights. Interestingly, its date depends on the Indian astrologers. But, normally, it is celebrated in the last week of October or the first week of November. This festival signifies the victory of the good over evil. The preparations and rituals typically extend over a five-day period, but the main festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu calendar month called Kartika.

It is believed that on this day, Rama, a Hindu god, came back to India after defeating Ravana, a demon. It was also the end of his 14 years of exile. Before Diwali, people clean, renovate and decorate their homes and offices. On that day, people dress up in new clothes or their best outfits and light up oil lamps made from clay inside and outside their homes. They participate in family prayers to Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

After prayers,  a family feast including delicious sweets begins. This is followed by fireworks and the exchange of gifts between family members and close friends. Diwali is important to me because it brings the whole family together. We are living in a world where people are migrating and have less time, but for us, no matter what the work is, no matter where we are Diwali means a Reunion. The entire family is together and we exchange talks and laughs together.

Sample Answer Two

India is a land of different cultures and people from all walks of life call it home. It has many traditions, customs, and different religions. Festivals are an important part of a religion as they give us reasons to celebrate and different festivals have different significances. Even though there are many different festivals which are celebrated with great joy and happiness in our country, my favorite festival is Christmas. It’s a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ which falls on the 25th of December every year.

It’s that time of the year when the wind is cold and the woolen jackets are out. Schools are closed for winter break and the streets are lit up with lights of different colors. Luckily as I live in the northern part of the country I have been able to celebrate a few white Christmas over the course of years. My city has a lot of Anglo-Indian heritage so a lot of locals flock the church on Christmas Eve to light up a candle. It is beautiful to witness such communal harmony as the majority of the population in the city itself are Hindus.

It’s a great time for business and locals who work in the tourist sector as loads of tourist come to visit the nearby hill station. Shopping malls and local markets are filled with customers and plenty of attractive discounts are also available in these festive times. We celebrate with a traditional dinner at our home and all the friends and family gather to sing carols. Some great homemade wine is served to all those in attendance and we exchange presents with one another. In the end, it’s all about tradition and even though my entire family lives in different corners of the world, everyone manages to find the time and come home for Christmas to spend some great time with the loved ones. The spirit of Christmas brings us all together.
