Sample Answer

Many subjects were taught in my school. The subject I’d like to talk about is English. Each year a new teacher used to teach us English.  I remember Ms. Sujata, Mr. Rajan and Sister Rose Charles were among the few teachers who taught us English in different years.

I think we were fortunate to have qualified English language teachers who knew how to teach.  Our teachers made us so engrossed in the subject that we took it seriously. Firstly, each chapter was thoroughly discussed. Then, questions were asked from any part of the chapter, vocabulary could be any word of the chapter and we had to be well prepared for it. So, we were not just limited to questions given in the book or the ones given by the teacher, instead we had to make short questions from the chapter and learn lots of words. Of course it was tough, but it was fun, I’d say. When a chapter with a play came, we enacted it.

So, I did not just learn English, I was fully involved in it. Learning English has been very helpful for me. At a personal level, it gave me  a broader exposure of different cultures, people and their perspectives.  When it comes to work, communication is an integral part of my day-to-day life. I work as a business development manager so I have to communicate with businessmen, stakeholders and many other individuals, all from different parts of the world. Owing to my effective oral and written English language skills, I have achieved great success in my career. Certainly, the credit for this goes to my teachers, my school and my parents.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # New Friend

Describe a person who became your friend.
You must say-
Who is the person?
How did you meet?
What made you two become good friends?

Explain how is your friendship now?

Sample Answer: Friendship has always been very important to me. I’ve lots of friends and I’m proud to say that all of them are special to me. Today, I’m going to talk about one of my closest friends.

Her name is Abhilasha. I was in the first semester of my bachelor’s studies when I first met her. Although we were in the same faculty, initially we never talked much. It was during the end of the semester that we became good friends.

We had to give presentations for a science project. We were divided into groups of ten and every one had their co-ordinators. I was pretty much good at making presentations, so I was relaxed and working on something in our lab. It was then, when Abhilasha came worried and she told me about her problem. Her group mentor asked her to prepare her presentation a week ago but she was unable to do it because her mother was very unwell. The next day was the deadline of submission.

I felt sorry for her and I decided to help her.  So, I took her to my home and without wasting any time we both started planning what to put in the slides. Since the coordinator was very picky, we had to be extra careful about the details. By late night, the presentation was ready and she even rehearsed a few times. We both felt confident.  In the morning, she delievered a beautiful presentation.

I think the fact that I helped her even when my work was incomplete made her my friend. We understand and value each other. We have been close friends ever since then.

IELTS cue card

Describe a time when you were late for something important.
You should say:

  • when it was ?
  • why were you late?
  • how you managed the situation?
  • explain how you felt about it?

late Time

SAMPLE ANSWER

Usually, I am quite punctual. But, one day I was really late for an important appointment. Today I will talk about that incident.

A few months ago, I appeared in the IELTS test. My speaking exam was scheduled on the 13th June, Monday, 9:00 am. I was supposed to report at the test venue, hotel JSR continental, Dehradun, at 8:30 am.

It rained heavily on Sunday evening and the weather forecast predicted incessant rain for a few days. Considering the bad weather, I set the alarm for 6:00 am and went to bed early. I was feeling very nervous and I couldn’t sleep well. Despite that I woke up on time. After getting ready, I left the home to catch the bus. When I reached the bus station, to my surprise, there was no bus and many commuters were stranded.

It was quite chaotic as nobody knew the reason why buses were not plying as usual. It was 7:50 am and I was still at the bus station. My anxiety was increasing enormously because there was no other mean to reach Dehradun from my village. Fortunately, a bus arrived and I boarded the bus. It took a lot of time to reach Dehradun as there was a head-on collision of a truck and a car on the main road. Looking at the site, I understood the reason why buses were running late.

Finally, I reached the center at 8:55 am. I explained the situation to the center manager and requested him to allow me to appear in the interview. He was very understanding. Later, I was given the permission to give the speaking test. Even though I was very late, I didn’t lose hope. In the end everything worked out well. I did my best. I thanked god for everything and went home happily.

IELTS Cue Card # Teacher Who Influenced You

Describe a teacher who influenced you in your education.
You should say :
– Where you met him/her?
– What subjects she/he taught you?
– What was special about him or her?

Explain why this person influenced you so much.

Teachers play a very important role in moulding the lives of a child. I consider myself lucky to get several dedicated teachers throughout my academic years. One of the teachers was, Mr. Swatantra Gupta. He was our English and social science teacher in class VII and taught us English in subsequent classes. He was a true mentor and guided all of us in the right direction.

Initially we thought that he does not know how to teach but later on I realised that not only was his way of teaching unique, it was also effective. In the social science class, he used to make everyone stand up and read aloud. We thought, may be he is lazy enough not to speak for himself, but after few months we realised that it was because of him that our pronunciation and style of speaking had improved.

He used to particularly make me stand up and ask me to read long paragraphs. It was tiring but at the same time, very exciting. He even pushed to take part in different competitions and plays and suggested my name to the principal for the district debate competition.

I think it was his faith in me that I actually started working on my strengths and became more confident.
