Describe a skill you would like to learn.

You should say:

What is the skill?
Why do you want to learn this skill?
How would you learn it?

And explain how long it would take to learn it?

Answer – I’d like to talk about a skill I’ve been aiming to learn for quite some time now: playing the guitar. The guitar is a versatile instrument that can be used to play almost any genre of music, such as folk, classic rock, blues, jazz, etc.

I am very passionate about music, and I believe that the guitar is different from common musical instruments. The guitar produces the most melodious sounds known to humanity. My biggest inspiration behind learning this skill is Gracie Abrams, who is a world-renowned guitarist as well as an excellent vocalist. Ever since I first witnessed her performing live on stage, I’ve had a great desire to play the guitar as expertly as she does.

To learn the guitar, I’ll start by establishing a daily routine. Firstly, I’ll watch some YouTube tutorials to understand the basics, such as finger placement and open chords. Once I become familiar with the instruments, I would like to take formal lessons from a professional instructor to help me understand the complex techniques, such as strumming patterns and expressive control through specialised picking and fretting methods.

Learning an instrument is a continuous journey which requires patience and dedication. I’ll dedicate an hour to practice guitar daily. I believe it will probably take around four to six months to fully grasp the fundamentals for just playing simple chords, and I’m looking forward to mastering this skill within a year.
