Sample Answer

India has been through a lot of historical events under various rulers and governments. This has led to the long and highly interesting history of my country to be written for everyone to know and learn from. I am fond of reading history in general but the most fascinating period for me is from the year 1940 to 1947. It was the last phase of the Indian independence movement while being under British rule. The British rule in India lasted for nearly two hundred years. It was in 1947 on the fifteenth of August that India had finally gained its freedom from the oppressive and tyrannical British rule.

I am interested in gaining knowledge about all the proceedings that took place in this period as they increase my curiosity the most. I came across information on this era in my eighth-grade history book. Since then, I have spoken to my grandparents at length on this topic. They have told me many stories of freedom fighters standing up against the British army for their rights, apart from many of their own experiences during that time. I have also read many books and watched various movies and documentaries on this subject.

This period is full of various occurrences on a mass scale and involves sacrifices of innumerable freedom fighters who gave away everything to fight the British rule. During this time, our country was divided into two separate nations, and a new country named Pakistan came into existence. It is indeed one of the most important periods in the country’s history.

A number of events are organized in our residential society every now and then for different purposes such as festival celebrations or an occasional get together. Many of these carry with them an important message to convey to the residents of the society.

Today I would like to talk about an event which I attended in my society’s community center last month. This event was about a play based on the social issue of female feticide which is hugely prevalent in our society. The play was organized by the school going children living in the society and all the families living in the area were invited. I went to the event with my family as all of us look forward to such engaging events with a strong message for the public.

The venue arrangement was immaculate and the hall had comfortable seating arrangements for the guests along with snacks and beverages being served at regular intervals.

After a few introductory speeches the children announced the start of the play and came up to the stage for their performances. The play went on for half an hour and was ended by the children with a slogan of “Save the girl child” and the curtains were drawn. It was a moving act and touched the hearts of everyone in the audience with an apt explanation for the necessity of girl’s education and their equal rights. The event ended on a good note and everyone took home a very important message and unforgettable memories.

My grandparents were a few of the most interesting people I have ever met in my life and had a lot of knowledge and intriguing things to tell me about. I used to talk to them for hours on end whenever I went to visit them.

My paternal grandfather was born and brought up in Dehradun, and was the only person in my family to work for the Indian railways. He was a train guard for the Delhi-Dehradun express that used to do a round trip to and from Dehradun every two days. He was supposed to supervise the train on its journey and had a separate room in the last bogey of the train. He had his system there to keep an eye on the driver’s schedule, train’s movement, and other necessary information.

He worked for more than fifty years from 1950 to 2001 and retired when I was in second grade. He was a strict disciplinarian and was punctual in every aspect of his life. He used to reach the railway station an hour before the scheduled departure of the train. Then he tried to expedite the processes in an efficient manner in order to flag off the train exactly on its scheduled time.

He was praised and respected for his integrity and work ethics by everyone in his department, and was awarded for his excellent service record at his retirement farewell celebration. I respect him a lot and have learned many things from his character and the way he chose to live his life. He is a source of inspiration for me and I always try to follow in his footsteps.

We face tough situations many times in life where we have very less time to do any particular task. I have also come across many such incidents, mainly due to my habit of procrastination. Due to my ways of postponing things to the last possible hour, I have faced many issues when I landed in trouble. I would like to talk about an incident that occurred during my tenure as a content writer in my first job.

I used to get a fair amount of time to write articles and publish them, so I used to be at ease and confident at all times. One day my boss handed me an assignment consisting of ten articles that were to be submitted on the coming Monday, after a three day festival holiday.

Anyway, I accepted it and came back home and started working on it. Before the day ended, I had completed one article and suddenly my friend called me up to invite me for a trip to a nearby town. I agreed and postponed my work till Sunday after I returned from the trip. The outing was very enjoyable but while coming back we got late as our car broke down. However, I reached back home on Sunday evening with very less time left to complete the assignment.

I sat down without wasting any more time and started working on it. I was awake the whole night completing the work and I somehow managed to finish it in the early hours of Monday morning. It was a very close call and I cursed myself for postponing my work without any foresight. This incident led me to take a firm decision to never procrastinate my work ever again.
