SAMPLE ANSWER-

Family members are said to be the first teachers in an infant’s life. There are innumerable family values and skills which a child can learn to thrive in life. Here, I’d like to tell about the most important lesson I learned from my parents about never to waste your talents. They taught me this lesson because they’d made the same mistake and didn’t wanted me to take the wrong step in the future.

My father is a natural singer, he loves singing but my grandparents underestimated his ability and never recognized his true personal talent. Ultimately, he had to join the family business thereby leaving his passion behind. Similarly, my mother had a passion for fashion but she sacrificed her interests for her in-laws. I was in my university days, stuck in a dilemma when my parents gave me this negative example so that I could find the right path for myself.

Though I haven’t personally taught this to someone, whenever my friends are confused about something, I advise them to follow their dreams. My parents always taught me that life is too short to repent your actions.

This lesson is very meaningful to me because I pursued engineering but my heart was never in it. Later, I gained the courage to leave the course and start my own business. Because one should chase their passion instead of worrying about society’s criticism and mock. My business of wedding planning is running successfully and I owe this achievement to my parents.

Speak about a skill that you learnt from older people.

  • What was that skill and from whom did you learn it?
  • How did you learn it?
  • Did you find the skill helpful and how?

And Have you imparted the skill to anyone afterwards?

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO-

Learning is a process in which you train yourself with a set of skills in a consistent manner over a period of time. It is an unending ever evolving process. To claim that I have learnt everything, is a vicarious affirmation made out of personal ignorance. Elders contain the virtue of experience which encompasses the skills imperative for leading a healthy lifestyle. I learnt the art of patience, how it is nurtured and preserved within oneself. I learnt it from my father.

I always sit with my retired father in the evenings, after a long day of work, full of conflicts and discontentment. Additionally, I discuss with him, the confluence of several variables in my work which make the things unpredictable and desired outcomes may be suffered because of this. My father would then instruct me about wisdom and associated virtues. He would lay emphasis on patience, how upkeep of patience will allow me to stay calm and happy even in troubled waters. At first, I found it difficult to hold patience in my rough moods. But with repeated practice and proper internalization, I became the master of my will.

Indeed, practicing patience in everyday life is an art that helped me immensely. Unfavourable outcomes, not meeting desired results in stipulated time and not receiving what is expected out of someone or something, were few common recurring experiences, which used to agitate me with remorse and chagrin. After cultivating patience in my daily routine, my perspective towards failures shifted upside down. Acceptance for every event grew multifolds and a subtle pleasure became a part of myself.  I feel good about myself and everything around me.

As such, I have not imparted the skill to anyone formally. But, yes, I informed few of my friends about the radical changes induced in my behaviour and mannerisms because of my embracing the patience and anxiety free attitude.

IELTS Cue Card #Describe a course that you wish to study

IELTS Cue Card #Describe a course that you wish to study

Describe a course that you wish to study in the future.
You should say:

  • What the course is?
  • When and where you would like to take this course?
  • What skills and qualifications are required for this course?

And explain why you want to study it.

Sample Answer

I would love to partake in an animation and gaming course. Even though it’s true that I never imagine myself going for a Bachelor’s in Arts, this seems like something I would enjoy.

I would like to do this course somewhere in Germany – probably next year in my summer holidays. The reason being that I spent my childhood in Germany. The love and affection which I have for this place is hard to describe in words. I can’t forget the time which I spent there. It’s my dream to go back to Germany and relive those moments.

Coming to the skills and qualifications required for this course, a good command on English and effective computing skills are the two main criteria for this course. Sometimes, applicants have to submit a portfolio of their drawings.

Talking about the reasons why I want to take this course, as a child I was very fond of cartoons, I used to draw my impressions of the characters in my school notebook, often getting scolded for doodling. And whenever I went to visit my cousin-brother’s house, we used to play video games all the time. My mother and aunt never understood what we found so fascinating about these immersive games.

But, I guess the biggest appeal is that there is prominent and existing growth in this field. It’s a very new and fresh, growing concept, especially at a time like this when research and development have come to a standstill, this field has just begun. It offers new challenges and certainly new opportunities. I wish to be a part of this progression.

Describe a course that impressed you a lot.

  • What was this course?
  • Who did you take it up and where?
  • What benefits did you feel after course?

And what is the availability of this course?

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO-

We all generally follow the same conventional career oriented path in our lives as taught by our predecessors. Schooling followed by graduation or a higher degree and then engage in a job till retirement. This is the verifiable secure trajectory to earn a good living. During this journey, sometimes, we shift our engagement to a short term course or workshop, which brings value addition, either in our personal lives or professional or both. Recently, I took up a month long workshop on making incense sticks.

My father is a very religious person. He often used to complain about the deteriorating quality of incense sticks. One fine day, my friend called me up and discussed about his start-up venture of incense sticks. He has already expanded his supplies twice in just a period of 6 months. On my inquiry, he replied that he learnt about it in an NGO based in Dehradun. It appeared reasonably sensible to me to take up this 1-month long course and that too free of costs, considering the complaints by my father and a bright business opportunity in this religiously overwhelmed country.

After completing my course, I was in a position to make different sized sticks with different ingredients, quality and incense. You can say, I was equipped with every trait of incense stick manufacturing from my first day itself. Before taking it up as a commercial idea, first thing I did was, to prepare a bundle of sticks for my father, having his favourite aroma of Jasmine flowers. My father felt very happy after that. Since I am studying in my final year right now and feels myself capable enough to earn a good job next year, I am in no hurry to take up the incense sticks venture but definitely, I have added a value in productive sense which can be utilized any time in life, even as a hobby.

As I have mentioned, this workshop is a very short duration type, with no charges. This is easily accessible at this NGO Prayas located at Raipur road. One can register digitally too, but one has to come to the venue for workshop session.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 Which extra course should one take up?

Sample answer: It all depends upon the present occupation of an individual. If a person is a student, he has ample of time to get engaged in long term courses adding value to his personality. It can even be a vocational course intended as a hobby or pure fun like clay pottery, wood craft and all. They will serve as an addition to your versatile skills. For a grown up working adult, it may not be feasible to get enrolled in a longer course so they should classify the right courses at right time. Expenditure involved and relative value addition should be proportionate.

Q. 2 What is your opinion about singing and dance academy for children and adults?

Sample answer: Well, it depends on an individual’s interests and inherited talents. If a parent sees the potential talent and inclination in a child, he should enroll him in that academy. We should not just impose on them for the sake of current trend. Similarly, an adult can join such course for his physical fitness, as dancing involves exertion. Sometimes, even the late comers after can age, can pursue their interest at a later stage in life. This makes them feel happy about themselves.

Q. 3 Do you think every course adds value to you?

Sample answer: No, I don’t think every course can do that. That’s why I was stressing on the utilitarian aspects or for seeking genuine pleasure in following a passion. Pursuing a course, that gives you no momentum, either in professional sense or in personal sense, will be a sheer waste of time. Therefore, one should clearly define his priorities before taking up one.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card:

Describe the environmental pollution in your city.

  • What type of pollution is it?
  • Why has it happened?
  • What are the possible effects of this pollution?

And explain how can this pollution be controlled?

environmental-pollution Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

Sample Answer

I live in Dehradun city which is the state capital of Uttarakhand. My city is a beautiful place to be and is full of natural beauty being situated amongst the hills. It was announced as a capital around ten years ago, and hence it is suffering from many issues such as decreasing quality of life and environmental pollution of all kinds.

A quaint town before being named as a state capital, it was an unplanned hamlet that went through a rapid and unplanned expansion and industrialization.

The main reason for these pollutions is overpopulation and rapid and unplanned industrialization of this city. The city has seen a population explosion with an increase of more than one million people in the last ten years.

This has caused a huge pollution problem all over the city. People are using more resources, generating more waste, using more private vehicles, and causing the environment to degrade quickly.

The industries and factories beside the rivers and streams dump their waste directly into these waterbodies causing water pollution. The rapid deforestation is causing soil erosion and air pollution. The huge mounds of waste dumped by people are causing soil pollution due to the chemicals seeping into the soil and the groundwater. Vehicular emissions are rising at a fast pace, causing the release of toxic pollutants and gases into the air.

If steps are not taken to prevent pollution immediately, the city and its residents would succumb to diseases. The most important step is to create public awareness. Without awareness and strict determination, we would not be able to prevent such issues.

IELTS Cue Card, A SONG YOU LIKE

Music is a form of art which has been a key component of celebrations in both ancient and modern times. Other than being a source of entertainment, it has profound impact on our brain too. Music is like a food for the brain, soothing and relaxing us even on a bad day. This time we are looking at a cue card that asks questions about a song you like.

And explain why you like it.

Sample Answer

Music is something that we all can associate with, although our choices can be different at different times. There are times when I like to listen to soft music, while at others I enjoy rock or peppy music. Today, I’d like to talk about a song that remains one of my favorites since I heard it around 20 years back. The name of that song is “Heal the World” by Michael Jackson. The song is from his album “dangerous”, which was released way back in 1982. In one of his interviews, Jackson said that this was the song that he was most proud to have created. He also formed a charitable organization by the same name, designed to improve the lives of children all over the world.
This song is has meaningful and soulful lyrics, talking about unity, peace and equality. It says that we should treat each other equally and put an end to discrimination based on color and religion. Let us make this world a better place to live by spreading love and not hate. It guides us to be considerate towards those who are less fortunate and feed those who are hungry. I still remember the music video of this song which features children living in different countries suffering from unrest, poverty and hunger. It is also one of only a handful of Michael Jackson’s videos not to feature Jackson himself. I’ll wrap up by saying that it is a beautiful song carrying a message to make this world worth living.

FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS
Q1. What would be life without music?
Ans. I just can’t imagine life without music- no singing, tapes or music, no dancing, no hymns and concerts. Without music our world would certainly be a bleak place. Life would be extremely dull, boring and will lose its vibrancy.

Q2. Which is more important to you- music or TV?
Ans. Although, I do watch television regularly, I could probably do without it if asked to choose between TV and music. Music is definitely indispensable in my life. Music is something I can hear exclusively or read, do households etc. while playing it in the background.

Q3. What is the best time and place to listen to music?
Ans. I feel that the beauty of music is that it can be always heard. However, work meeting would be an inappropriate place to listen to music. Also, I feel that you can really enjoy music if you are in the company of your friends. You can dance and groove while chit chatting with them.

Music forms a crucial element of our wellbeing. It is a part of the nature and universe as a whole. Wind, Rains, Thunder, birds and so many other things have their unique music characteristics. We, humans also have discovered art and music to add beauty to our lives. Different songs are composed on different genre of music and this variety is played in different contexts of moods and occasions. I admire one of these Hindi songs which says “yeh daulat bhi le lo “. It is composed in form of ghazal.

This was sung by legendary Jagjit Singh, who is considered as maestro of ghazals. This song has most beautiful lyrics, encompassing the reminiscences of the childhood. It has an enchanting soft music composition. Various childhood acts, considered to be trivial, have been depicted in this song and the singer is willing to sacrifice his wealth and fame just to return to his childhood days. The song wraps up a huge nostalgia for the old, for the childhood.

This song did the rounds on every music chart and album, when it was released back in early 90’s. It was a mega hit song and it has grown in its popularity since then. This song has earned fame even in abroad. The sense of melancholy, it awakens with its lyrics and music is simply spellbinding. I personally like this song because of the nostalgic rush which I feel after listening to it. Vivid mental images about my childhood start hovering inside me, once I happen to listen this song. That innocence and free will of children, in turn, start permeating my whole being, which gives me a feeling of immense pleasure.

The eternal connect with the past, evoked by this particular song is the linchpin of its greatness. Every age group person, every gender and every ethnicity would like to hear the soft, subtle message of this song. Voice of Jagjit infuses life in the song.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 Do you like music and songs and which type?

Sample answer: Yes, I like to hear music and songs. Sometimes, I sing myself too, although I am not a very good singer. To put it plainly, I like songs of different genres but most of the time, I prefer listening to old classics.

Q. 2 Why do you prefer old songs?

Sample answer: It is the beauty of lyrics apart from the serene music of the old songs, that captivates my interest to them. The peculiar story and situation thread, that old songs used to draw is simply interest gathering.

Q. 3 What changes do you feel in the songs composed nowadays?

Sample answer: Apart from the loud fast music nowadays, the songs are totally devoid of the beautiful meaningful lyrics. Songs in the present times are suitable only for hip hop dance and act as anxiety inducers. It is only the glitz and the rocky music which are the soul centres of today’s songs.
