Types Of Modal Verbs

We have already talked about modal verbs. You can go through it here.
Let us have a look at the types of modal verbs.

Probability
Probability verbs are used when we want to say how sure we are that something happened / is happening / will happen. These are also called ‘modals of deduction’ or ‘speculation’ or ‘certainty’ or ‘probability’.
Example – 1. They should be there by now.
2. Prices can be high in London.
Ability
Modal verbs such as can and could to talk about skill and ability.
Example – 1. She can speak English.
2. I couldn’t open the window.
Obligation And Advice
We use modal verbs such as ‘must’ or ‘should’ to say when something is necessary or unnecessary, or to give advice.
Example – 1. I had to wear a school uniform when I was a child.
2. You shouldn’t smoke so much.
Permission
Modal verbs such as can, could and may to ask for and give permission. They are also used to say, something is not allowed. Example – 1. You may not use the laptop today.
2. Can I leave early today?
Habits
You can talk about will and would to talk about habits that have been a part of you since a very long time or you will be doing them in near future.
Example – 1. She will always be late.
2. We would often go out for party on Saturdays.

When writing something, you write it for the reader and have to make sure that he/she understands the topic clearly.To do this,you need to practice writing clear topic sentence. Essay Games # IELTS

Essay in IELTS form the section two of the writing section and is double worth of the writing section 1. This simply means getting a high band in IELTS often depends a lot in the essay. So, let us practice essay using essay games.
Essay forms the following parts –
1. Conclusion

3. Body paragraph 1
4. Body paragraph 2
Now, have a look at the following essay – Living on own.
Once you have gone through the essay, answer the following questions –

Letter To Your Friend

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.
You recently visited your friend and stayed at his/her house.
Write a letter to your friend and in your letter –
– thank you friend for staying with them.
– tell them what you enjoyed the most about the holiday.
– explain you are sending the photos of the holiday.
Write at least 150 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Lavanya,
I am sorry I haven’t written for so long. After the holidays, the work pressure was so high that I never had a minute to myself. I am writing to thank you for the fantastic holiday that you made possible.

It was a long time since we stayed together and living at your house was a perfect retreat to our old times. Going to the same places we went when we were young and meeting those people was simply fantastic. I am still missing the 2 o clock ice cream and the long walks near the beach, outside your house. There was so much that you did to make this holiday memorable and I appreciate every bit of it. Memories of the taylor swift concert that we went and the open fire campaign keep coming back in my mind and make me smile.

And I must tell you, your house is simply beautiful and you have kept it in a way that makes it more amazing to live in. I really loved your bedroom and the drawing room, especially because of the lovely candles and the perfect photos you have hung there. I think words will be less to describe how amazing the trip was and how much I am missing those times.

I have recieved the photos few days back and I am sending them along with this letter. I hope you will love them.
