Dear Mr Smith,
I am writing concerning the position of Education Counsellor that I am due to begin next Wednesday, 15th April 2018. For some unavoidable reasons, I am unable to take up this position on the agreed date.
My son is in 10th class. His board examinations were supposed to be over on the 5th April, but due to a paper leak scandal, the Central Board of Secondary Education has cancelled the last exam of Mathematics. There are reports that the board will reschedule the exam for all 10th class students. The new exam date is not yet announced and as of now, the situation remains quite unclear. Due to this problem, I have to postpone my date of joining in your organization.
Please accept my sincere apologies and know that I fully understand the inconvenience this issue has caused.
I hope that you would allow me to take up my position with you three weeks later than originally planned. I would like to emphasise that I remain very keen to work with your organisation. This postponement would as I very well realize will affect student enrolment in the busiest time of the year but as I have stated before I do not have much of a choice in the matter.

The place that we live in is the most important thing in our life. The people we surround ourselves with talk about our lives and make an impact on us. This time we are looking at IELTS speaking questions where we talk about the accommodation a person is living in.

Tell me about the accommodation you live in.

I live in a one BHK flat on shared basis. The house has two rooms along with a kitchen, and a garden. The house also has two elderly people living along with a family living upstairs. We share a nice comarade with all the people living in our home and it is really beautiful. The office that I live in is a walk away from the house and save a lot of commute time.

How long have you lived there?

It has been more than a year since I shifted to the new place that I currently live in. Before that, I had been living in a two bhk flat.

What do you like about living there?

The best part about living here is that I get to live with a lesser number of people. I can do almost everything that I wish for and do it on my own terms. Being a 23-year-old girl, I believe to be able to know what is the best for me has been the best decision I have made. I get to decide what comes in my house and what stays, also what is no longer required. Living in the house has given a lot of independence to me which I cherish.

What sort of accommodation would you most like to live in?

I would have loved living in a penthouse. There could nothing be more beautiful than living in one but there are even moments, I feel as if living with my family members at my home, even though it is small would also make sense to me.

Hometown is the one word that brings sparkles into the minds of people. If you are living far off from your parents the mere name of the place brings so much joy to you. But, what is a hometown? For most people, it is the place they grew up in, for some it is the place they like themselves to be associated with, for some it was their current location, while for some it was nothing. This time in our IELTS Speaking section we are looking at the common question about hometown.

Let us talk about your hometown or village.

What kind of place is it?

My hometown is Dehradun, which is a small city yet the capital of Uttrakhand, a state in the northern part of our country. It is both traditional and modern because of the several festivals that are celebrated by the locals and modern with the new infrastructure being developed by the government. With it being the center for most of the tourist coming it has become the tourist capital of Uttrakhand. With increasing number of infrastructure and establishment, it is becoming on par with the modern cities of our country.

What is the most interesting part of your town or village?

There are many things that I love about my hometown, but the most interesting thing is that the entire city is in circles. You can never get lost in the city, maybe because it is small. There is a different kind of stalls all around the city, one can go and find the most elite of the things as well as cherish the local foods. I think what makes my hometown special is is the fact that you can find a mixed bag of people. With it having a lot of educational institutes, students from across the country come over to study and their innocence and different backgrounds, make it worthwhile.

What kind of jobs do the people in your town or village do?

Most people in my town are either into education industry or bankers. Being the education hub, one can find the elite schools of our country, like Doon, Welhems in the city. There are various other government schools as well and people mostly work in there. However, there are some people who do freelancing and others who have found their calling in the travel industry.

Would you say it is a good place to live in? Why?

If someone is looking for a well-settled life with less of juggling and more of peace, I would suggest my town to the person. With places like Mussoorie near to Dehradun, one can find easy escapades from the place. Even more, there is less of commute required in the place and that saves a lot of time. The weather is beautiful with a lot of rains and sometimes snow. One can find the basic necessities along with a comfortable life.

IELTS ESSAY: Reduce air traffic by imposing taxes?

Air traffic is increasingly leading to more noise, pollution and airport construction. One reason for this is the growth in low-cost passenger flights, often to holiday destinations. Some people say that governments should try to reduce air traffic by taxing it more heavily.

Aviation sector has witnessed a boom over the recent years. More and more people are travelling by flights, mainly because of less travel time. Another key reason behind this trend is discounted airfares for domestic and international tourist destinations. Such offers attract millions of passengers every year. This travel for recreation not only causes heavy air traffic but leads to excessive noise and pollution. It also requires new airports to cater for the escalating number of travellers.

Many experts argue that heavy taxes should be imposed on airlines to control air traffic. I strongly agree with this view.

The construction of airports is also augmenting noise pollution, which has negative effects on people residing in the vicinity of the airport sites. It is not only their peace that gets disturbed but they also become more prone to heart diseases and hearing problems as well. Such serious damage to the lives of people is alarming and needs to be controlled immediately.

Some people are aptly correct when they say that government should levy heavy taxes on aviation companies to control the noise pollution caused by aeroplanes and construction of airports. Imposition of heavy taxes will control the over-development of this sector resulting in less air pollution and noise pollution.

Moreover, the airports should be constructed on the city outskirts to ensure that the life of people living around would not be disturbed. The heavy tax imposition on aviation sector will control the rapid increase in construction of airdromes, resulting in less air pollution. These measures are a must to protect our environment and safeguard the life of people residing near airports.
