CUE CARD, TALK ABOUT A PERSON WHO WEARS UNUSUAL CLOTHES

Sample Answer

Fashion and clothing has always been an important part of the society. We have different dress codes for different occasions. It brings out people differently. Today I’m going to talk about one of my friend who dresses in an unusual manner. Her name is Mansi and she is a fashion blogger. She started fashion blogging with one of the most offbeat dressing sense. Her peculiar dressing sense has actually made her one of the most popular fashion model of the town.

She wears saree with jeans and long boots. Sometimes she wears a scarf as a top. She usually wears different types of hats and caps with Indian outfits which gives her a different look. She has never failed to surprise me with her eccentric appearance. Once I saw her wearing a dress made out of newspaper, she wore it for her shoot. Moreover, I have never seen her repeating her outfits. She can literally prepare an outfit from whatever is available, be it newspapers, pieces of old clothes, pillow covers, bedsheets and even towels. She has also started a small business of fashion clothing and named it “Cranky Couture”. Her fashion store is gaining popularity among townspeople.

I believe her clothing choice is quite strange yet impressive. In a short span of two years, she has gained a lot of fan following in social media due to her unique dressing style. Going offbeat always makes an individual remarkable. I’ve have never seen someone with such unusual clothing before. Her outfits are sure to turn heads. Whenever I go out with her, people look at her with eyes wide open which actually makes me proud of her and the fact how she is normalising such kind of fashion.

Follow up questions:

Q1. Do you like shopping for new clothes?
Answer: Yes Of course! I love shopping for new clothes. Buying clothes makes me happy and it is the only kind of shopping that I enjoy. I often go for shopping when I do some remarkable work and reward myself with new clothes.

Q2. About how much money do you spend on clothes a year?
Answer: I don’t remember the exact amount, but I think I usually spend around 10,000 to 15,000 Indian Rupees in a year on clothes and I believe that is the minimum amount that an Indian girl spends on her clothing.

Q3. Do people dress the same when they are depressed as they do when they are very happy?
Answer: I feel people dress up differently when they are in different moods. Such as when people are happy they wear bright and colourful clothes, and they actually try to look better than usual. For instance people are most happy when it’s their birthday or some family function, so they try to look best. On the other hand, when people are depressed, they don’t make many efforts to look good.

Q4. What do you think about men who wear earrings?
Answer: I think it is completely their personal choice to wear earrings. Fashion is all about comfort and if men are comfortable with that, we should not judge them. Fashion has no gender. Wearing earrings is their way of expressing their sense of fashion.

Cue Card Describe a time when you told your friend an important truth

Cue Card # Describe a time when you told your friend an important truth

Describe a time when you told your friend an important truth
– Who your friend is?
– What the truth was
– What your friend’s reaction was
– And explain why it was important for you to tell the truth to your friend

Sample Answer

I believe a lie spoken for someone’s benefit is better than truth. So, telling a lie momentarily for someone’s good is not a bad thing in my point of view. To the best of my recollection, today I want to talk about a time when I had to hide a bitter truth from my friend. His name is Mukul, one of my closest friend and I love spending time with him, sharing my happiness and sorrows. Last year, we were appearing for UPSC exam. As he was a very bright student since his childhood, he did all his best to crack this exam, studied 14 hours every day with full concentration and dedication.
Everything was proceeding as planned before the exam. We stayed up late together, working for final revision and solving all the questions that might appear in exams. Then just before the final day of the exam I accidentally picked up his phone while he went outside to get some fresh air.
The call was from his aunty. It was a pickle situation as his father was hospitalized due to heart attack. But somehow, I accumulated
my thoughts and told his aunty about the exams and explained everything. The only thing that came to my mind was that how is
he going to take it, will he be able to write his exams after this or not. Finally, I decided that we should not tell Mukul about this before exam.
When Mukul came back I pretended like nothing has happened and gave our exams to the best of our abilities. Finally, after returning to the hostel I decided to break the news to him. He started crying immediately. We booked his ticket and he left off immediately for his hometown. He did not talk to me for the entire vacation period.
Later, he cracked the exam with a very good rank and then he came to me and said that he was grateful for what I did. We are still good friends as we were before.

Q1. Do you think we should tell truth at all times?
Ans. Honestly speaking, telling truth shows you care for others, but we cannot tell the truth all the time.
Sometimes the truth may hurt the feelings. It does not mean that you should tell lies to others; in fact, you can hide the truth for some time and speak it later for someone’s benefit.

Q2. How do you know when others are telling the truth?
Ans. From my experience, I get to know that someone is telling a lie by their facial expressions. For example, people start sweating or avoiding eye contact when they are lying. However, sweating might also be due to other reasons and therefore it is not easy to determine if people are indeed lying or just physically uncomfortable.

Q3. Do you think it is important to win the game or follow the rules?
Ans. As far as I believe, winning the game without rules is not fair enough. Deserving people will not get the chance to showcase their abilities. So, although
the result is important, following the rules is even more important.

Q4. Sometimes people should tell lies. Do you agree?
Ans. As I mentioned above, lie spoken for someone’s benefit is better than truth. But it does not mean that we should speak lies all the time.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Polite Person

A polite person is someone who treats everyone with respect. No matter how rudely we sometimes behave, we always enjoy the company of a polite person. A polite person often not only lifts the mood of the person sitting next to them but also changes the dignity of the whole place around them. This time we are looking at a cue card that talks about a polite person we have in our family.

Describe a polite person you know. You should say –

  • who is the person?
  • how do you know him or her?
  • why do you think he or she is a polite person

SAMPLE ANSWER 1
Today I am going to talk about a former colleague of mine, his name is Adrien Agreste.
To this day, I have not found a more agreeable, sincere and sweet person.
Adrian really was the epitome of politeness. He always followed the general rules of politeness like holding open doors and saying “bless you” after a sneeze. To my surprise, I never found found him pushing people for anything. Judging people was not at all a part of his personality.  He was very caring and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
When I had just joined the office, he had introduced himself along with all of my other new co-workers. He had shown me around and been a huge help in getting me settled into the new environment. During office meetings he listened to everyone and asked for more input genuinely making everyone feel involved respected and valued. It is true he was awkward sometimes and liked to apologize a little too much but that was just a part of who he was. I cannot think of a more charming person.
SAMPLE ANSWER 2

Politeness has been one of the traits I have always admired in people. It shows to me the fact that in the end, we all are best when we behave as humans. Although there have been many I have encountered, I found my mother the most polite person I know. She is one of the most soft-spoken people in our entire family. Not only does she respects people she knows, but she is respectful to everyone who interacts with her.

Recently, a beggar was roaming around in our colony asking for either food or money and while everyone disrespectfully asked the person to move, my mother not only gave him respect but also food and money. On asking her why she did that, she replied that “everyone deserves to be treated respectfully, irrespective of their position, behavior or clothing.”

My mother has always tried instilling these qualities in both of her kids, although we are not as kind as her, we try to follow her teaching of respecting every individual.

SAMPLE ANSWER 3 (Writer: Bhumika)

Being polite and respectful to others is a good quality and makes us a
good person. Today I would like to talk about someone I know who is
very polite. She is a helper at my college. Her name is Kamla. Kamla
aunty is in her late thirties. She is a stout woman with long hairs
and wears salwar kameez. She works as a helping staff at my college
since last ten years. I know her since I joined my college. In fact
everyone in the college knows her and respect her, and calls her Kamla
didi.
Kamala didi is very helpful, I have seen her that many times she goes
out of the ways to help others which is the reason why everyone at
college loves her. She is always ready to help others be it anything.
I remember once when I had gone to the college and I was not well. I
had a heavy bag of books with me and my classroom was on the fourth
floor. Kamla aunty sensed that, I was unwell that day and helped me
reach to the fourth floor and also carried my heavy bag herself. She
keeps helping others be it in a big or small way.
However, there are some higher authorities in our college who are ill
tempered but Kamla didi always respects them and obeys whatever they
say. Not only that, she is a very helpful colleagues. She always helps
them and sometimes does their work also.
I think she is a perfect role model for us. She never shows that she
has done anyone a favour. She teaches us how to be polite and help
others selflessly.

Sample Answer

Humans have shown negligence towards the care of mother nature over the past few decades, the result of which can now be perceived. Pollution can broadly be classified into three types – Air, Water and land pollution. Air pollution is the major reason for global warming and climate change. While water pollution is responsible for destroying water-based ecosystem. Whereas land pollution has even disastrous effects like soil and groundwater poisoning.
Today I’m going to talk about the alarming air pollution levels I experienced in Delhi. It was during winters last year when I visited Delhi to see my aunt after so long. Delhi had changed a lot since my last visit. I was shocked to see smog all around the place that even the air felt so heavy to breathe.
Once I reached my aunt’s house I enquired about the abnormal air quality levels but she told me that these levels were normal here. Such poor quality of air had adversely affected the lives of people in Delhi, causing irreversible lung damage to children and also increasing the risk of cancer, epilepsy, and diabetes. Prolonged exposure to such poor air quality causes migraine, lung cancer and even early death.
I believe no government policies or external efforts can improve the air quality in Delhi, it is the people of Delhi who have to come up with changes in their lifestyle to handle this situation. More use of public transports should be adopted, usage of Electric vehicle must be promoted rather than polluting petrol or diesel engines, avoid burning plastic wastes and using fans instead of Air conditioners can be some helpful measures.
Such small but regular efforts would gradually change the air pollution levels in Delhi.

Follow up questions:

Q1. What kinds of pollution are there in your country?
Answer: In India, there are almost all kinds of pollution, be it marine pollution, air, land or noise pollution. All together these pollution have led to drastic climate change in my country, due to which there is also a loss of biodiversity.

Q2. Are people concerned about environmental problems in your country?
Answer: Yes, there are some people in my country who are concerned about the environmental problems. In fact I know a few environmentalists who are actually working hard to decrease the pollution levels in our country and persuading others to be eco friendly.

Q2. Do you believe climate change is a serious problem?
Answer: Yes, I believe climate change is a major problem now that the whole world is facing. It has led to extreme weather conditions in different countries. Last year due to climate change there was a glacier burst in my state Uttarakhand which caused massive destruction in the region. Hence it is one of the most serious problems nowadays.
