The question is of IELTS general.
Home schooling belongs to the past and is unacceptable in the modern society. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Use your knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Everything has two sides and home schooling is not an exception. In the past, it seemed like the most natural way of teaching, but in present times it has come under scrutiny.

The people favouring home schooling have come with various arguments. Firstly, a child learns from someone he/she is the most close to i.e. parents. When the kid learns from his/her parents, the bond between them increases. In addition, it helps him/her to learn things beyond a fixed curriculum. For instance, Angelina Jolie, home schools her kids. When asked her about it, she said, she has a job where she has to travel a lot. Home schooling her kids, help them to learn things that are more practical. They get to meet new people, see new cultures and understand how life operates. Secondly, when a child learns at home, he/she is saved from the unnecessary pressure that often school environment builds in. Even more, often kids get bullied or punished, a home provides them the best environment to study. Thirdly, it caters to the development of an individual aptitude and abilities. For example, a kid interested in music, need not to learn anything except music.

Nevertheless, there are even facts against home tutoring. The first major drawback is that it is not for everyone. In the past, at least one parent used to dedicate their time at home. However, in present times with both parents involved in making their own career, home schooling could stop the kid from learning at all. Secondly, often parents themselves are not very well educated. This might be possible because of the circumstances they have faced, however, they want their kids to follow their dreams. It is in these cases that the arguments favouring public school system, get their advantage. Thirdly, to an extent, restricting a child to house, reduces the exposure he/she might get, if he/she goes on and faces life on its own.

Overall, I believe that the decision must lie on the parents and even more so on kids. Both of the ways of teaching have their own benefits, but in the end it all boils down to this that every individual is unique and has his/her own unique circumstances and the teaching must be the one that helps the child in his/her individual growth.

Television Dominance # Essay For IELTS

Television dominates the free time of too many people. It can make people lazy and prevent them from socializing with others.

Do you agree or disagree?

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

Television is a major source of entertainment for people these days and its craze has been increasing with the innumerable channels and programs available. Watching television does not involve any physical exercise and gives rise to laziness which might also lead to health problems.

Nowadays, people have a lot of stress in their lives due to busy work schedules and are unable to make the time to go out for any kind of entertainment. As this is the cheapest and the most easily available source of recreation, people resort to watching television more than anything. ‘Couch potato’ is a term which has been coined for those who watch television excessively. Most people sit at home with family or friends and watch programmes all day long. Due to this, people tend to get lazy, obese and prefer to stay at home and spend most of their time watching television rather than utilizing it by doing something productive.

Television means being indoors most of the time and no social activity is involved. This leads to people turning into introverts and losing social skills. People who only watch television start avoiding social situations which involves talking to people and being in their company. This can also become a problem which might result in diseases like insomnia and schizoid.

It can be concluded that watching too much television can have many negative consequences like becoming lazy, putting on weight and lack of social skills. But if it is watched in a limited and constrained manner all these negative effects can be avoided.

Issues With Credit Cards # Essay For IELTS

In many countries it is very easy to apply for and be issued a credit card. However, this causes some people some problems with debts they cannot pay back. Do the advantages of a credit card outweigh the disadvantages?

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

The world today has become a majorly cashless society and the use of plastic money has crept in. plastic money as one refers to it means the use of credit cards and debit cards instead of real paper money. Credit cards have made people’s lives easier since it has reduced the use of paper money to quite an extent which in turn has made the mode of payment simpler with just a swipe.

Many countries including India as well, most of the people have credit cards as they are very easy to obtain from the banks which issue them. People from all walks of life, be it a student, a businessman or even a homemaker have a number of credit cards with which they make everyday payments for something or the other. The best part about owning one is that a person does not have to carry cash all the time and is also less time consuming as no money needs to be withdrawn from the account for any payments. These days all kinds of payments can be done with a credit card via the internet whether it is shopping online or payment of bills. Even if people do not have sufficient money in their savings account, a credit card can be used for payment up to a certain limit.

Though a credit card may seem the need of the hour by many people in this seemingly cashless society, yet it may have certain repercussions like over spending. People, who are impulsive shoppers may spend money uselessly on items that are not required by them just because they have the capacity to pay via a credit card though they do not actually have the money. This created debs for such people which leads to the accrual of debts. The return of the money overdrawn on a credit card attracts an interest, late or non-payment of this will lead to this interest being added to the actual amount. Hence, people will fall in debt unable to come out of it which might also lead to legal consequences as well.

In can be concluded that a credit card does make life easier for people in terms of payment for purchases made in today’s era but one should be careful not to be too free in its use and have a frugal attitude towards its usage.

Banning Mobile Phones # Essay For IELTS

Some people believe that mobile phones must be banned in public places such as libraries, shops or public transport.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Write atleast 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Mobile Phones have become the rage of present times and has led to formation of a new kind of addiction i.e. of mobile phones. People are often seen on their phones almost every time. Some people, therefore believe that a ban must be put on using phones in public places such as libraries, shops or public transport. In my opinion, banning mobile phones will surely have great benefits, however, it will also create a sense of restriction.

Mobile phones bring with them their own set of issues. Firstly, phones are too anti social as people are too busy sending messages to talk to the people in front of them, for example in a shop when they are being served. Secondly, signals can cause problems in some public places such as hospitals by interfering with delicate instruments or equipments. Thirdly, in public places such as libraries, music halls or gallerias, phones can annoy and ruin the experience of others.

However, phones also bring with them some added advantages. Firstly, they can be useful in case of emergencies such as accidents in public places. Secondly, they are useful for families living overseas to get in touch which may happen any time even when out in public. Thirdly, phones are multi-functional and can be used as recording devices or cameras. Even more a phone can easily be put into silent mode.
Overall, I believe, mobile phones should be banned in places where they interfere with with equipment, interrupt a service or break rules, such as in a library, but in all other public places they should be allowed as long they are used with respect to others.
