All countries across the globe are witnessing a substantial increase in the weight of their citizens. Declining health and fitness levels are becoming a matter of concern. In this essay, I will discuss the reasons behind this problem and discuss a few measures that can be taken to address this issue.
In earlier days, people used to carry out their daily tasks themselves therefore, had better fitness levels. The current generation, on the other hand, follows an inactive and sedentary lifestyle. In my view, this change in the lifestyle is the major cause of the problem. In addition, people these days prefer to use different forms of transportation, rather than walking as it is more convenient and is less time consuming.
Furthermore, physical activities such as running, cycling etc have become less common and more of a hobby. Another major reason is the change in the eating habits. Today’s generation prefers to have unhealthy and fatty fast food over a proper nutritious meal. The rapid rise in the popularity of fast food joints such as Mc Donalds, KFC, Burger king etc is a telling example of how people ignore their health and well being just to satisfy their taste buds.
To recommend a few ways, the government should advertise the harmful effects of junk food and impose heavy taxes on the sale of fast food. Bicycle stands and separate cycle lanes should be constructed in different parts of every city across the globe to promote cycling. The governing bodies and local councils should encourage people to use bicycles as it is less harmful and it has health benefits too .Research has shown that such initiatives are very successful. Amsterdam is an ideal example of such a city that has integrated cycling as a major mode of transport for its inhabitants. Due to these measures less than 10 percent of its population is obese.
To sum up, the sedentary and inactive lifestyle of today’s youth and poor diet are the major reasons as to why, people are not as fit as they used to be. The need of the hour is to run advertisements about fitness and make people aware about the ill effects of obesity. (365 Words)

IELTS ESSAY #LAWS ARE NEEDED TO MAKE PEOPLE RECYCLE MORE OF THEIR WASTE, IELTSBAND7, DEHRADUN

Sample Answer

In this drastically changing world, our resources are depleting at an alarming rate. The need of the hour is to recycle, so all the individuals and the government should take responsibility and come up with an initiative to recycle more of the waste. Studies have shown that most of the waste from homes is not recycled, either due to the unawareness of the homeowner or lack of services from the government or local council. I strongly believe that strict laws should be in place for recycling and in this essay, I would like to discuss my views about the same.
Firstly, the ever growing need of humans has already left a huge void in our natural resources and official data from the governments across the world have shown that on a global average less than 20 percent of all the household waste generated worldwide is recycled. Countries where strict laws are in place for recycling are able to manage their resources better. A clear example of this is Japan, where the local councils give out recyclable bags that are segregated according to their colours. Any waste that cannot be recycled is charged separately and this encourages all the residents to recycle effectively and produce as less waste as possible. Another example is Sweden, where various schemes have been launched by the Swedish government, in these schemes the more you recycle, the more you get subsidy towards your council and electricity bills.
In conclusion, I would like to conclude by saying that, countries across the globe need to form an international governing body that mainly focuses on recycling. Strict rules and regulations should be made and countries that do not recycle their household waste should be dealt with stern actions and imposed heavy fines. (293 Words)

Sample Answer

Traffic has become a major problem in most metropolitan around the world. The city centre and central areas are generally the most congested and they give rise to various new issues. In order to tackle this ever growing problem, the government has come up with a policy of charging vehicles when they drive into the city centre at certain times. In this essay we will look at both the positive and negative views and present our opinion.
With congestion charges in place, people will start using public transport and this will lead to fewer vehicles on the street and reduce traffic congestion significantly. It will have great positive effects on our environment and will help cities to reduce pollution. The money raised from congestion charge can be spent on other form of public transport and increasing alternatives to driving.
On the negative side, over dependency on public transport will increase the burden on an already stretched infrastructure and that may lead to fatal accidents. Congestion charge will encourage people to visit out of town shopping centres and business will suffer losses.
In the end, I would like to say that even though congestion charge is a good initiative, it is not the perfect solution and instead of charging vehicles that enter the city, the government should launch campaigns to promote the idea of car pooling or alternatively promote other modes of transport like cycling.(234 Words)

Sameple Answer:

The fact that we can have any and all of our queries solved by 5 different sources, sitting in the comfort of our own home and a few clicks away is a great boon for today’s generations. While it is unlikely for us to own entire encyclopaedic medical text books in our home we can easily find the same online and in abundance with personal experience, advice and more included. This rising self-diagnosis trend does not surprise myself in the least.
While most of these diagnosis websites are officially monitored, written and controlled by medical authorities there are still an abundance of fake, well-meaning but ill advisory sources out there.
Common advice dictates that one should consult the doctor before and after checking their problems on the internet when serious illnesses are concerned. However where seasonal and home treatable ailments are concerned such as common colds, fevers, headaches, coughs, minor allergies etc. it is okay to refer to online help exclusively. Another reason for today’s help choices would be the relative isolation we generally find ourselves in. We no longer live in a tightly bound social fabric, but rather in a loose distant and independent web.
This trend can be taken as a positive substitute for advice from relatives, friends and neighbours, although as it is while we would be better off under the care of nurses we simply choose to treat ourselves may it be for the expenses or the unwillingness to miss out on official work. There is also the added benefit of being able to order your medication online, even when your neighbouring pharmacy may be all out of stock.
The only possible drawbacks of this phenomenon would be reliance on amature advice and not checking the same with official sources, but even in the real world we do run the risk of being scammed, at least online we ourselves would be to blame for not double checking.
So to conclude I would say as general consensus stands this is a positive development considering how society and its expectations are changing, how online diagnosis not only saves our money, time and energy but also provides us with advice, feedback and personal experience from individuals going through the very same thing we may be experiencing.
