You do what you wish to do, so it could be cooking or driving or sleeping or for that matter even dancing. This time we are looking at an IELTS Cue card that talks about the things that an individual likes to do during their leisure time.

Talk about something you like to do in your leisure time. You should say –

  • what is it?
  • why do you like it?
  • when did you picked it up?

also, explain, what will if you do if sparred from doing that activity.

SAMPLE ANSWER 1

Leisure time is the one time that I rarely get, but whenever I do get the time, I prefer reading books or listening to music. Reading has been my favorite since I was in my teenage years and it has helped me to grow as an individual. It taught me so much about different domains and helped me in understanding the new things that often come up in my life. For instance, it was when I read the autobiography of Gandhi that I learnt about the Indian politics.

It was during the final year of my college that I picked up the habit of reading and have not stopped much after that! During reading I used to mark the vocabulary words and read them through. Also, I would sometimes mark the paragraphs in the book and try to make notes of good learning’s provided in the book.

If someone tells me to never read a book in my life, I think I would then go for dancing. Dancing is something that fills my soul, it just energizes me and makes me feel happy about life. So, if not reading, I would be dancing my life through songs and making others happy.

SAMPLE ANSWER 2

Leisure time is the one time that we get to learn so much about ourselves. it is the time of our own and I usually prefer dancing in my leisure time. Dancing fills my soul with joy and helps me to understand life better. It helps in gaining different perspective about life and broaden my horizons.

I picked up dancing when I started working at a corporate company and started doing the basics. I enjoyed my time doing dancing in different clubs and the different forms of them. Sometimes, I enjoyed doing Bollywood and the other times I would enjoy doing Zumba.

After a few months, I started learning Kathak and now growing in Kathak. If not dancing, I think I would have went for acting. Acting is quite similar to dancing, one is allowed to be expressive and share their thoughts and opinions.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing you this letter in regards to the numerous complaints that we have received in relation to the reception area.
Most of the clients are not happy with the general cleanliness of the common area. The feedback forms filled by quite a few clients suggest that they were disappointed with the unpleasant behaviour of my colleague, Charlie. The waiting times have also risen drastically due to one of the check in counters not working and even though we tried to fix the faulty computer a few weeks ago all the effort went down in vain.
Our common areas get cleaned every 6 hours and I would suggest you to bring this down to every 3 hours. Charlie has had several personal issues recently and maybe you can approve his pending holidays so he can have some time off. We need a new computer as soon as possible and if you may please also order me a new mouse as the one for my computer is not very responsive.
Some of these matter require your urgent attention so please if you may sort these problems out as soon as possible.

Some people claim that not enough of the waste from home is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for government to make it a legal requirement.
To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?

In this drastically changing world, our resources are depleting at an alarming rate. The need of the hour is to recycle, so all the individuals and the government should take responsibility and come up with an initiative to recycle more of the waste. Studies have shown that most of the waste from homes is not recycled, either due to the unawareness of the homeowner or lack of services from the government or local council. I strongly believe that strict laws should be in place for recycling and in this essay, I would like to discuss my views about the same.
Firstly, the ever growing need of humans has already left a huge void in our natural resources and official data from the governments across the world have shown that on a global average less than 20 percent of all the household waste generated worldwide is recycled. Countries where strict laws are in place for recycling are able to manage their resources better. A clear example of this is Japan, where the local councils give out recyclable bags that are segregated according to their colours. Any waste that cannot be recycled is charged separately and this encourages all the residents to recycle effectively and produce as less waste as possible. Another example is Sweden, where various schemes have been launched by the Swedish government, in these schemes the more you recycle, the more you get subsidy towards your council and electricity bills.
In conclusion, I would like to conclude by saying that, countries across the globe need to form an international governing body that mainly focuses on recycling. Strict rules and regulations should be made and countries that do not recycle their household waste should be dealt with stern actions and imposed heavy fines. (293 Words)

Languages are meant for communication and with billions of people living around in the world, there are many languages through which people communicate. There are bilingual people, multilingual people and then there are many who cannot speak. This time we are looking at an IELTS speaking test that talks about the languages.

  • Which languages do you speak?

I am fluent in two languages, Hindi and English. Hindi being my mother tongue is what I use when I need to communicate with my family members or for that matter in personal life. I use English for all of my professional interactions. Also, I am learning to speak some of the vernacular languages like Oriya and Tamil.

  • Do you think it’s important for children to learn a foreign language?

Learning multiple languages always gives children and added advantage because when children can speak a foreign language it increases their aptitude. Even more, when a person gets into the habit of learning new languages, they can learn even more and often mixing different languages gives a good variant to people when interacting with different kinds of people.

  • When did you start learning a foreign language?

It has been a year since I have started learning French and I have become quite adept in the language. However, there are some intricacies that I still need to work upon!

  • Do you enjoy learning languages?

Yes, I definitely do. Learning languages is always fun and my goal is to someday learn all the vernacular languages of India.

  • What activity do you find most useful for learning English?

Learning English has been the best experience for me. I have been into an English medium school but learning English for the future opportunities for exhilarating for me. But, the fun exercises that we did were pretty amazing. One of them was a couple vocab. So, a person would say a vocabulary word and the other person has to speak off its meaning!! It really helped me to understand the words and remember them .

  • What do you find most difficult about learning English?

The grammer and the different usages of it . It really does frustrates me at times because of the different variants that the language offers to the readers. For example , there is advice and then advise both pronounced similar but there are still differences.

  • Are there any other languages you would like to learn in the future?
  1. I would love to learn French some day. It would be nice to lean a langaula that teaches so much about pronunciation and how it can really impact the words that are coming our of our mouth.
