University education is one of the most important elements of an individual’s life. It is not just a learning process, it is a critical component of human development worldwide. Going to an educational institute and getting a degree is considered to be the best way by some for having a good job and a prosperous life. There are others, who contradict this statement and believe that getting some sort of practical experience and investing your time in learning a skill is worthier. In this essay, I will analyse both these views and give my opinion.
On one hand, the supporters of tertiary education may argue that spending money on higher education has many tangible (real and not imaginary) and intangible (to give an exact value) benefits. An educated person has wide range of opportunities as compared to a skilled person moreover, an educated person is able to choose his own career path as compared to a skilled person who is more dependent upon physical labour. Most of the universities across the world have courses and degrees that are universally recognisable, so one has chances of moving abroad for better opportunities
In the same way, developing skills is also a major component as not always does a university degree prove to be worthy of its cost and time spend on it. Various studies have shown that 30 percent of the students drop out in the second year of their course as they believe they were never sure about education. Unemployment among university degree holders is rising at a rapid rate and due to economic slowdown most of the companies are making their employees redundant. The cost of a university degree is very high and most people in developing countries often take loans to complete their higher education. Not to mention the additional burden of fees that families have to bear.
In the end, after looking at both the sides, I do believe that developing soft skills does have some advantages over university education in the short run but in the long run benefits of university education certainly outweigh minor drawbacks such as cost and unemployment. (354 Words)

The world is becoming more globalised and young people are more open about ideas to relocating to different countries for various reasons. Studying in a different country has become a new trend and there are various benefits and drawbacks associated with it and I shall discuss the same in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, studying in a different country gives us new perspective about life and it broadens our horizons. Moreover, students become accustomed to changes from an early age and are able to adapt quickly in a new environment. Another reason is, most of the students from developing parts of the world move to western countries for further education due to various reasons in their homeland. For instance, in my country, India the number of internationally recognised universities is quite few and due to an ever increasing population, securing an admission has become quite a big challenge. Therefore, heading overseas for higher education is advantageous for these students as the institutions there are globally known too and getting into them is relatively easier.
On the contrary, students become homesick after a certain time as settling into a new environment can be quite a daunting task. Besides, different surveys conducted among foreign and native students show that international learners feel twice as lonely as their counterpart. Aspirants from third world countries pay huge sums of money to get enrolment into these reputed universities. As a consequence, families back home struggle financially and in some cases even mortgage their property to fund the college fees of their offspring.
All in all, I would like to say that even though there are a number of negatives of studying abroad, the positives far outweigh them. Studying abroad can open the door to a world of new opportunities and the difficulties faced while being abroad only make us a stronger individual. (308 Words)
