There are so many times that we wish for things and do work for them as well. But sometimes we are not able to fulfill our wishes. This time we are looking at a cue card that was recently asked in the IELTS speaking test about an unfulfilled wish.

Talk about a wish that you could not fulfill for a long time.

  • what was the wish?
  • when you planned
  • why couldn’t you make it?

also explain what you felt about it?

SAMPLE ANSWER 1

Over a period of time, there have been so many times that I have wished for things to happen. But, I think the one time that I really worked for fulfilling my plans was when I wanted a MacBook for myself. Initially, I thought of buying a simple laptop but with moving times, I decided to buy a MacBook. I remember saving for almost seven months and even saved around eighty thousand for the laptop.
But when the time arrived to buy the laptop, an emergency came in my house and I had to give the money saved there. While giving the money, it did not felt bad because at that point the money was going for an important cause. After that, I had to buy a cheaper laptop and although I have been able to work on that, I do wish that I could have bought Mac especially because I had worked really hard for it. Nevertheless, I am planning to start saving again for the MacBook.

SAMPLE ANSWER 2

There have been very few times when I have actually wished for things to happen in certain way. I have always been the kind of person who has accepted whatever she got. But, I remember wishing for a person in my life and I really wished he could be there with me. We were really good friends and both of us were stranded in a place quite far from home. Living in tough situations we did bonded over but time things changed.

I remember he was leaving the place for some other better opportunities and I was trying to convince him to wait for some more time until I move as well. But it turned out that the opportunity was too big to be left and so I backed off. I tried changing his mind for around a month but then let him go. Once he left things went bizarre but soon changed for better. We realized the importance of friendship and made sure things don’t separate us again.

IELTS Essay Sample Questions # Foreign Language

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

In some countries, schools have added a foreign language in the curriculum of primary schools. Do the advantage outweigh the disadvantages?

You should write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

We are living in a globalised world where a person sitting in India could be having a business conversation wit someone in New York or may be in China. The world has shrunk to 0s and 1s. Most schools therefore have now started offering a foreign language as a subject in primary schools.

Learning a language always helps an individual to grow faster and sharper. According to a survey, a person who knows more than one knowledge is better at taking decisions and doing multi-tasking. A foreign language in primary school syllabus will surely help students to develop their minds better and grow into smart individuals.

Even more, we often speak a language with a flair if we converse in it or have heard it over a period of time. Teaching a certain language right from the primary school can help students get a good grasp of it in the later years of life.

However, we are living in a dynamic world and what seems important now may become obsolete later on. Therefore, deciding on the language to be taught can be a tough choice. For instance, if a child learns Mandarin when young only to realise that Hindi has now become the most important language could lead to shift of attitude towards learning a language.  However, one cannot deny that a person who can learns a foreign language can learn another faster.

Overall, being able to communicate orally and in written in a foreign language is troublesome for a child in primary school. However, no matter how slower a learner is, an additional language always gives the person an added advantage in later years of life.

IELTS Essay Sample Questions # Abroad Studies

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Today, more and more students are deciding to move to a different country for higher studies. Do you think the benefits outweigh the problems?

You should write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

With the expansion of economies and the desire to get a global exposure, there has been an increase in number of students who prefer going abroad for higher studies. While there are various positives with this shift, there are some drawbacks as well. In my opinion, if going to abroad fits into ones plan for life, he or she must definitely try to get hold of the exposure. However, merely doing it for the sake of it, can cause trouble.

Studying abroad brings with it a host of problems. Firstly, most students face cultural shock, this when mixed with browbeat of studies, often cause students to stumble. However, if the person is ready to adapt to the new place without judging or comparing it could give them a life time experience.

Secondly, countries like US, America and Australia do not have very high number of job available. Most students take education loan for their studies in foreign countries. Failing to get a job often leads to a strenuous life. Comparatively, the students with international exposure are offered better opportunities back in their home land.

Overall, like most good things, there certainly are roadblocks to the education in overseas. But, if the student is determined to have a multi-faceted career schooling at a foreign university surely gives the extra advantage.

I am working for an organisation presently which offers IT services to other companies. My work requires writing codes that help in analysing data and creating trends. We are constantly dealing with the changing data and handling it, making the applications user friendly and our job easier as well.

I am currently studying English Literature  in Jadavpur University, Calcutta. It is truly one of the best and has helped me in understanding the language in a better way. The faculties are fantastic and I have truly gained so much from this experience.

In case you answer you are at a job –

What is your current job?

I am helping an organisation provide IT services to other companies. We work on data provided by our clients and help them understand the trend of the data. This helps them in making better decisions for their business allowing it to grow at a faster pace.

How do you feel about the job?

Most people look for their career growth in the job, but I am learning how to work right now. How do business deals happen, what are the factors that cause failure and understanding the psychology of people. And my job helps me a lot in this because it requires me to interact with other people. People who change their opinions and with that we have to change quickly. If we talk about work, it is not something I love to do but then learning how to make things happen, I think it will help in later in life.

Are you planning to change the job in future?

Definitely yes. I am constantly looking for my true expression and would love to do that. Like, Oprah did what was her truest expression and I want that for myself as well.

In case you answer you are a student –

Which course are you studying?

I am studying English Literature. So, our syllabus is all about reading the literature of great women and men from all over the world. For first two years, we read books by great authors. Then, we had a semester of writing. So, we wrote a lot, on different topics and themes. This semester we are working on slogans and reports and making documentaries. After this, I have two more semesters to go.

Do you like the course?

I love the course. As a kid, I always was fond of English literature and when everyone was bothered about getting marks, it was a subject I studied for pure fun. So, doing a major in English is like having a paid vacation.

What do you wish to do with the education that you gained?

I have always loved English and Math. I am not exactly sure as to what I would love to do with the education that I have now on English and Math but certainly a mixture of both is something I am looking forward to. So, an opportunity where I can use my communication skills, my math knowledge and the English writing is what I am looking for. I don’t want to fit into a box of certain ideas, I would prefer being in a box but the one that I made.
