IELTS Band7 Writing Task Professions because of their gender

Sample Answer:

It is a common notion in our society that men and women have different abilities and it is fair to exclude males or females from certain professions, simply on the basis of their gender.

I as an individual totally disagree with this viewpoint. In today’s world, everyone is capable of doing everyone’s job. Women are mastering or exceling in the so called men’s zone of expertise and vice versa. We have women winning gold medals for their countries in sporting events like wrestling, archery, marathon, gymnastics, weightlifting, body building and shooting etc. We have women astronauts of the Indian origin, late Kalpana Chawala and Sunita Williams are great examples. In the field of medicine we have Dr. S Padmavati, India’s first woman cardiologist and a national award recipient and Dr T. S. Kanaka India’s first neuro surgeon are in their late 90’s and 80’s. They not only did break the glass ceiling, these doctors also proved their mettle by having several firsts to their credit.
If we talk about armed forces, we have women fighter pilots as well in the naval and ground services. If we look into the world of corporate, we have women like Indra Nooyi Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of PEPSICO, world’s second largest manufacturer of carbonated beverages. Ms. Bachendri Pal was India’s first female to climb the Mt. Everest.

Males like Gordon Ramsay, Rick Baker and Javed Habib have excelled in their respective fields of culinary arts and make-up artistry and hair styling, the trades which were largely dominated by females. These examples clearly prove that gender discrimination has no significance in today’s world.

To sum up, whenever designating work to someone, an individual’s skill sets should be taken into consideration and not their gender. From the experience of my own and from the knowledge I have gathered, with all due respect towards our achievers, the women of world, I say it’s totally unjustifiable and inappropriate to typecast men and women, when it comes to professional competency. IELTS Cue Card 2017 Questions # Unfulfilled Wish

There are so many times that we wish for things and do work for them as well. But sometimes we are not able to fulfill our wishes. This time we are looking at a cue card that was recently asked in the IELTS speaking test about an unfulfilled wish.

Talk about a wish that you could not fulfill for a long time.

  • what was the wish?
  • when you planned
  • why couldn’t you make it?

also explain what you felt about it?

SAMPLE ANSWER 1

Over a period of time, there have been so many times that I have wished for things to happen. But, I think the one time that I really worked for fulfilling my plans was when I wanted a MacBook for myself. Initially, I thought of buying a simple laptop but with moving times, I decided to buy a MacBook. I remember saving for almost seven months and even saved around eighty thousand for the laptop.
But when the time arrived to buy the laptop, an emergency came in my house and I had to give the money saved there. While giving the money, it did not felt bad because at that point the money was going for an important cause. After that, I had to buy a cheaper laptop and although I have been able to work on that, I do wish that I could have bought Mac especially because I had worked really hard for it. Nevertheless, I am planning to start saving again for the MacBook.

SAMPLE ANSWER 2

There have been very few times when I have actually wished for things to happen in certain way. I have always been the kind of person who has accepted whatever she got. But, I remember wishing for a person in my life and I really wished he could be there with me. We were really good friends and both of us were stranded in a place quite far from home. Living in tough situations we did bonded over but time things changed.

I remember he was leaving the place for some other better opportunities and I was trying to convince him to wait for some more time until I move as well. But it turned out that the opportunity was too big to be left and so I backed off. I tried changing his mind for around a month but then let him go. Once he left things went bizarre but soon changed for better. We realized the importance of friendship and made sure things don’t separate us again.

IELTS Cue Card 2017 Questions # Shifting

Gone are the days when people were born in one place and died at the same place. We are in times when people are always on movement, always shifting, changing places, friends and so much more. This time we are looking at a cue card that talks about how one feels when moving to a new school or home.

Talk about a time when you moved to a new school.

  • What were the reasons for moving to the new school?
  • explain how did you feel about it
  • do you think it is a good idea to change schools frequently?
SAMPLE ANSWER

Over the period of my school days, I have changed schools three times. Sometimes the shifting was because of my father’s transfer, the other time because of my education. Changing schools has always been a piece of cake for me because I do gel up with people. But one time that I really did not enjoyed changing school was when I came to Dehradun for my higher studies. Usually changing schools meant going along with parents, this time it was all new, making the experience entirely different.

Having changed so many schools, I think they do help in developing the personality of a child. It teaches how to gel up with people and be ready for change. But, then it also takes away the stability that sometimes we need in life. Children who frequently go to new schools are often not able to make lasting friendships which are required later in life.

I have recently joined the Toastmasters community and it is all about public speaking and leadership. Last Friday, I attended a meeting held in my office. It was a district level conference and people from all of the communities in the district came to attend it. Like in all meetings, there were two main speakers and lot of table topics. But the one thing that made the meeting different from others was the quality of the speakers.

There were two main speakers. The first speaker explained how in the latest of times we have philosophized life to an extent that we have stopped living. It was a humorous speech and in the end the message was clear, life is about doing what you love and letting everything else pass by. The second speaker talked about dreams. How dreams have been the driving force for so many eras and the beautiful concept of understanding the present circumstances through dreams.

I really loved the speakers and the way they presented their thoughts. There was drama in the speech and one could visualize the words of the speakers making it impactful.
