IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Lessons Learnt

Every relation teaches you lot of things, new experiences, new areas to explore. There is not only things that you learn about yourself but also about others and more importantly get to know a new perspective about life. Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to lessons learnt from friends.

Friendship is the most important relationship. Do you agree? Why? Why not?

It surely is because there is much that you can learn from it. There are these two people who most probably think or feel the same way and then yet are so unique. There is nothing coming in between, no explanations, no judgments, nothing that has to be proved, nothing that needs to be presented or lied about. Two people who enjoy each other company irrespective of everything, it is this beauty of acceptance that teaches one a lot.

What are some ways your best friend has influenced your life in a positive way?

There have been times when I felt that I was nothing, times when I went into that zone of self-destruction and it was in those moments, that my friend told me about my self-worth. She taught me that there are mistakes that we all make and living with them is a bigger mistake than even committing them. This one learning has taught me so much and helped me achieve so much that I am still thankful to her.

How close do you get to your friends?

There are lot many people who I call my friends because there is something or the other that is common in us. But, the people who are my true friends tend to know me inside out. So, they might be knowing almost everything that is happening in my life. However, there are certain things that I don’t share with anyone and these are the things that remain hidden with them as well.

Why do you need a friend?

You need a friend to be able to just relax and look at yourself and your goals and just be yourself. In this rush of finding ourselves and shaping ourselves, we often forget who we are and it is then that we need a friend to be with, who can just tell who we really are and help us. A friend who we can share our joys with, who we can share our sorrows with. Someone whom we can trust, just like that.

What do you do when you have a misunderstanding with your friend?

I go and talk it out. There are very few people in my life who I term as important and when some misunderstanding happens I prefer to talk it out. Initially it might be possible that I don’t talk to anyone but later on, I just try to understand the opinion of the other person first before putting out mine.

Do you trust all of your friends? Why?

When it comes to the three close friends that I have, yes I do trust them, inside out. But, apart from them, there are several people we meet, who we often call as friends, I tend to trust them but not very much or you can not blindly.

What is the best time for making new friends?

I think there is no time for making friends, we just go on living our lives, enjoying it, improving ourselves and doing things. In that journey, we meet certain people who think like us and when that happens, they become our friends because they do understand us.

What was your best friendship?

Till date, my friendship with Avinash has been the best friendship that I had. It was a very short one, with we both ending it with lot of misunderstandings, but it was the first time that I actually felt a relation. So, we used to fight and then talk it out and then roam about and there was so much that I learnt about myself by just being with him.

Are you still friends with him or her?

No, we both have now separated our ways. But, sometimes I wish if we could ever come back together. It would be great because then it will be more like knowing each other in a new way.

What life lessons did you learn from this relationship?

There were several life lessons that I learnt. One of them being that you need to trust yourself the most. No one in this world can help you if you are not ready to help yourself. The next thing that I came to know was that no matter how much people laugh at you, you need to ignore it and live your life and do what you thought you will. Because haters will pass by, but if you start hating yourself in that way, there is nothing left then.

IELTS Essay Sample Answer # Intellectual Skills

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Some people believe that a person improves their intellectual skills with a group of people more than by doing personal activities.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Write at least 250 words.

POINTS:

  1. Team games require members to perform diverse range of mental caluclations.
  2. One can acquire information that cannot be acquired in isolation.
  3. Feedback helps people to refine their understanding of a particular concept.
  4. Study by Cambridge shows that there are several permutations and combinations that a soccer player is able to fetch in a particular game.

SAMPLE ANSWER

In recent decades, many researchers have studied the importance of group-level comprehension. Although, some intellectuals believe that it is always better to study on own, researches have often showed the other picture. There have been convincing evidence that group activities improve the intelligence of individuals. In my opinion, there are surely more advantages of working in groups than as a single entity.

Firstly, team games mostly require the individuals to perform a diverse range of rapid mental calculations. For instance, a player has to predict and anticipate all the possible actions that the competitor can take with very tight time constraints. A recent study of Cambridge University showed that a soccer player in a fraction of time figures out lots of permutations and combinations from a single soccer event. These predictive powers resulting from the activities performed in a group context improve the mental ability of the individual.

Secondly, study groups enable individuals to obtain information that they might not be able to acquire in isolation. The reason behind is that in isolation a person often lacks good feedback. This is very necessary for the refinement of the understanding of concepts. For instance, a British Learning Group found out that study groups have a far more objective and sophisticated understanding of topics when compared to people or the learners not part of study-groups.

In conclusion, I believe the notion that group activities do improve the intellectual abilities of an individual. With time it is hoped that more schools will try to felicitate group studies and games for a better study culture. (261 Words)
