Sports are surely an integral part of our lives. No matter you love any kind of sport in particular or not, there are very few chances that you might not have played one. However, most people don’t take up sports seriously until its too late. Today ,in this cue card we will be talking about a sport that you would love to learn.

You should say:

  • What sport it is ?
  • How you would learn it?
  • How difficult you think it would be to learn?

and explain why you would like to learn this sport.

Sample Answer One

I have never been a very sporty person during my childhood but the one sport that I have always played has been badminton. Growing up, I do realize the importance of sports in life and would wish to learn badminton all over again.

The company that I am working in has badminton court in it and whenever I do get time I go out to the badminton court and play with my friends and sometimes even make new friends. What I have been told from people who actually play really well is that badminton is really about stamina and your strength of arm. So, the more stamina that you have and the more power you have in your arm, the better it is.

Listening to what people have to say about badminton, I think learning it won’t be a very difficult thing but yes, mastering it would surely be. So, definitely I would be able to play some shots here and there, but beating the best and improving myself would certainly be a task.

Badminton is that one sport, I believe is actually not bounded by any of the parameters like weather and location. One can have the court anywhere and then you can just go there and enjoy the game. Even more, one can even play it with oneself with wall, i.e. shadow practicing. It improves so much in an individual and so nicely that I really do wish to be able to play badminton well.

Sample Answer Two

If ever there has been a sport that I have admired and looked at it in wonder as to how can someone even do that it definitely has to be table tennis. It has always been a wonder to me as to how can someone hit the ball so hard and then be sure that it will not fall of the small court that table tennis has.

The locality that I live in has a table tennis court that allows you to play, if you have membership and I have recently taken its membership. Although, I have just started playing the game, there have been people who have come forward to help me and have been truly encouraging. Telling me to be focused and play the game, even though it seems tough. Although, I have not started playing well, but surely I have learnt to make sure that the ball falls inside the court and not out of it.

It does not seems very difficult now, although I was very much disappointed in the initial days. With practice I believe it will be easier for me to play but surely this game will require lot of practice. The best part about the game is that it is not only about hitting the ball, it is about having a strong concentration, so if you don’t have it the game is over. Even more, it is not about thinking about the previous ball, no matter how good or bad you have played the previous ball, it is all about playing the current one in the best possible way. This has truly been a life lesson and I would love to play the game more and grab up some more of life lessons.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Conflicts

No matter how much we love the other person, there are times when conflict arise. There are times when we don’t agree with the other person, when there are fights and disappointments. Some people tend to assume it as the end of relationship, but then there are some who don’t let a fight bog them down and go ahead and try to solve the issue. Let us today have a look at questions related to conflicts people face in friendships and how they solve them.

What quality do you admire most in people and which one do you find the most objectionable?

The quality that I admire the most is the ability to be calm and have a smiling face even after facing the world’s most difficult situation. The ones that are able to smile through rough times are the ones that I truly admire the most. The one thing that I really don’t like in people is their tendency to hide things. I mean, I hate it when people try to play clever by not telling things and then suddenly saying they forgot about it. It makes you feel too small.

What behavior of others hurts you most?

That moment when people just don’t try to understand your point of view, it is then that I get irritated the most and it does hurts. Because most of the times people start questioning my loyalty towards them, and it becomes so disastrous because there is so much that you want to explain but there is so little that you can do about it.

When you have upset someone by your actions, what do you try to do?

I try everything possible by me to make them feel good because when I upset people it so often happens that I feel bad myself so I go out talk to them, try to make them understand why I did it and explain my situation and more importantly understand theirs.

What do you consider to be your good and bad qualities?

There are certain qualities in me that I really admire. One of them is the fact that I try my best to do things on my own. The self-respect that I carry is almost infectious. The next thing that I love about myself is that when I set a goal for myself I try my best to achieve it. With them there are certain things I consider not that good, one of them is I try to judge myself a lot. I think that is one thing that bogs me down most of the times.

CONFLICTS

What qualities help you to have good relationships with others?

I believe my concern towards other person problems help me have good relationships. Also, I tend to always greet people with smile and try to motivate people when they feel low.

What traits or actions make an interpersonal conflict worse?

When a person completely shuts himself or herself out, I think it is then that a conflict becomes worse. Because you stop talking to the other person and then make speculations which have no reason or sense. The other thing is when you are not interested in understanding the opinion of other, when that happens, there are chances of making interpersonal conflicts worse.

Are relationships among people better or worse than a few years ago? Why?

I think relationships have surely taken a back seat since the past few years. In today’s world people are more interested in making a career and achieving their goals than building relationships. It is only later in life that people understand that relationships are equally important.

Do you think that dysfunctional family life contributes to worsening relationships in society?

Too an extent yes it does. Because we all are in some way representation of what kind of life we live, so if there is a person who belongs to a dysfunctional family, there are more chances that he or she will not trust people or may be behave the same way as he or she sees in the family. The worse part is often people tend to judge the person on his or her actions, completely ignoring the situation in which the person is living. So, I think if there are more happy families or may be more people trying to first understanding the situation of the other before judging, we will have better lives.

Is getting along with others a natural ability from birth or does it have to be learnt?

I think there is some sort of innateness along with it, because some sort of people, just know how to gel up with others. However, if one tries to learn it or makes an attempt to get along with people, I think it is not a very big thing to do, only if the other person is interested as well.

Sample Answer One

There are so many websites that I subscribed to and there are so many emails that I get every day but I remember, having to receive a mail about my selection for the Gartner.Inc. It was truly an amazing feeling because it meant I would be able to work with the best company providing BI services and it also meant I had proved my mark.

I can clearly recall, I was sitting on my couch with my laptop in hand and working over a new assignment that I had got and meanwhile, something just struck me. I went to my mail and started scrolling the mails. The mail that I got was of the previous day and it said that I need to sign some documents and then some other formalities before I could go and start my work at Gartner.

The reason it was very important for me because I had truly worked for it, sacrificing a lot of things that people of my age were doing. There were times when I felt exhausted and the other times when I just did not have anyone to talk to. On receiving the mail, I first called my parents and they were proud and I was happy. Finally, I could work on something that was creative.

Sample Answer Two

I am a travel blogger and just like any other job, initially, it is tough!  There are days, months when one is just giving his or her best and working on the blog, putting content and yet does not receives any money. I remember, when I started my own travel blog, it took me around six months before I started getting some decent amount of money. It was only with that money that I could make some other plans as well.

It was some time back and I was sitting on my couch, completely exhausted over a particular post trying to figure out something and worried about paying my bills. The landlord had come to my house sometime back asking for the rent and I had nothing to give. For the first time in years, I had really questioned my job and my decision to become an entrepreneur.

Lost in my thoughts, I opened my mail account and there was this mail from Google. Initially, I thought, it must be some random mail but later on when I started reading it, it was the mail regarding the number of viewers on my site and Google has decided to finally pay me for the services that I was doing and it was a check of 70000 rupees.

In a time when I did not have money, when I could not even think of surviving, when I had started questioning my dreams and my decisions, the mail was an assurance that I was on the right path and that I am meant to be successful and that the only thing that I need to take care of is my work.|

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Introducing People

There is so much that needs to be done when you meet a person. You have to introduce yourself to the other person and then there are times when you need to introduce two different people who and make sure that they are able to have a good conversation. Certain things are to be kept in mind and this is something we all do lot of times. Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to introducing people.

The favorite topic for new acquaintances in Britain is the weather, in America it’s where you come from, what is it in your country?

The best way our people start a conversation is by the question,”how are you”? So, from the answers they get the scope for more questions. So, people would like to know about how your family is and how are you liking the place and stuff like that. It is more of personal in our culture.

If you don’t really like this new person how do you finish the conversation and make your escape?

Most of the times I am like, I am sorry but I have got some work and make an escape. Other times, I pretend that there is a urgent call that I need to take and have to leave.

What makes you remember a new person that you have just met? Do you remember them for long?

The only thing that I remember about a new person is their sense of humor. Nothing else. I think it is the best way to grasp someone’s attention. If I meet them regularly, I think I do remember them or may be sometimes, if what they said strikes me,I tend to remember them for a long time.

introducing people

What does your name mean?

I am Avantika and it means queen. Sometimes, it happens that I start feeling as if I am the queen.

What are the customary greetings and behaviors for meeting/greeting someone in your culture?

When we meet new people in our culture, we make sure that we can give them the best of food, because that is very important. Apart from that, we make sure that they don’t face any problem because there is saying in our culture that guest is God and we try to follow it most of the times.

How do you introduce two people to each other?

When introducing two people, I make sure that they both get a common ground on which they are able to interact with each other. Because, simply telling people each others name is of no use unless they don’t have a common ground where they are able to interact with each other and as a host I think it is my responsibility to do that.

When you introduce people do you use their whole names or just first names?

I prefer using their initial names only, it is when in a group of people there are some common names, that I go about telling the full names.

What are the advantages of meeting new people when you move to a new country?

When you meet new people, the best thing is that you get to know about their culture, the way that you can never know when you are. They know the local history, the important places to visit, the areas that are not in the google,  but are there in hearts of people. So, when you interact with them, you get to know that and it is amazing.

What are the first things you notice when you meet someone?

The first thing that I notice about someone when I meet them for the first time is their smile. I think smile is that one thing that is very important for me and if a person does not have a smile that touches my heart, I mostly tend to stop talking or interacting with them.

How important is it to smile when you meet someone for the first time?

Very important. Smile, I believe is the gateway to someone’s heart. It just is so much more positive and pure that it just brings smile onto other person’s face and breaks the ice for further conversation.

Do you like to kiss, shake or bow when you meet a new person?

I prefer shaking hands when I meet the other person. Shaking hands gives me the confidence to carry on the conversation ahead and get to know the other person as well. Also, it is neither to formal or informal. It brings in the feeling of trust and faith and I think that is very important for building a relationship.
