IELTS ESSAY # MODERN TECHNOLOGY IS MAKING PEOPLE MORE/LESS SOCIAL, IELTSBAND7 DEHRADUN

Sample Answer

How modern technology is affecting people’s ability to socialise has become a debatable issue. With the advent of modern means of communication, we are becoming more alienated from the society. Some sections of the society argue in favour of this topic while others hold a negative view about it. In this essay, I will discuss both sides of this argument and give my opinion.
On one hand, means of telecommunication have evolved over the course of years. Most people these days have access to the internet. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter etc have revolutionised the way we interact with each other. Features like chatting, sharing videos and commenting on each other’s post have brought people from different corners of the world together. Moreover, it is convenient to stay in touch with others and get to know of their well being without travelling from one place to another.
Other technological devices like Mobile phones have also made it easier to get in touch with one another. There are various features on our mobile phone like internet, messaging, emails etc that help us stay connected with loved ones around the globe. Unquestionably, all these services provided on the phone have made people more social.
On the other hand, in older days, people used to be less dependent upon technology and believed in having face to face conversations. This made individuals more apt to the society. Similarly, various studies have shown that through face to face interactions we are able to build stronger bonds and be more socially active. Mobile phones also confine us to a virtual environment and in many cases excessive use of such devices leads to psychological disorders like depression.
To sum up, the latest modes of communication are a boon to the society. Like any other advancements, modern technology has its pros and cons however, its benefits outweigh the drawbacks by a significant margin. (318 Words)

IELTS Essay # Migration from rural areas

IELTS Essay, Migration from rural areas

Many countries today are experiencing high levels of migration from rural areas to cities. What are the causes of this trend, and what effects does it have on the existing city dwellers? Give reasons for your answer, and provide ideas and examples from your own experience.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this question. You should write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer

Migration from countryside to cities is growing at a very rapid pace. Various countries are experiencing this pattern today. In this essay, I will discuss the reasons as to why this happens and the effects it has on the inhabitants of the cities.
On one hand, the main cause of this is unemployment. Rural areas experience slow growth as compared to cities due to their remote locations and lack of basic infrastructure. There are several parts in my country, India that still have dirt roads and no electricity. Without basic facilities in place, it is very difficult for companies to come up and set factories and offices there. Moreover, majority of the people in countryside are engaged in farming. With modernisation of farming techniques and less dependency on manual labour, most of the people have lost their livelihoods leaving them with no choice but to flock towards cities.
Regarding the effects felt by urban residents, perhaps the biggest problem is overpopulation. Cities nowadays have become big concrete jungles where only a certain amount of people can fit in. It increases the burden on already over laden infrastructure. Local transports suffer exponentially and the number of vehicles on the roads increases rapidly, having detrimental effects on the environment. Accommodation becomes expensive as well as property markets skyrocket leading to hardships for people as many may never be able to buy houses in their lifetime.
To sum up, poverty and unemployment are the main reasons as to why people move from rural areas to cities. To overcome this issue, government should allocate a certain amount of funds from the budget for development of rural areas. Effective laws should also be put in place to regulate accommodation prices and city dwellers can be more welcoming towards people from the countryside. (297 Words)

IELTS ESSAY AGREE OR DISAGREE # POWER OF ADVERTISING, ieltsband7 dehradun

Sample Answer

Advertising has been defined as the most powerful, persuasive and canny tool that helps in control over the users. It has evolved over the course of years and there is no denying it is more influential than ever. It is argued that the real needs of the society are being diverted by advertisements as people are purchasing popular products rather than buying according to their needs. I wholeheartedly agree with this statement and in the following paragraphs, I will give my reasons.
Firstly, Multi National companies run special campaigns and get influential stars to promote their products. The star power attracts potential buyers towards their merchandise which alienates the needs of the customers. Coca cola is the world’s leading soft drink maker and has roped in various well known people to promote their sugar laden beverages. Furthermore, they never advertise the harmful effects of their products and everyone involved with the advertisements is well aware of it.
Secondly, we are surrounded by advertisements. Every median of media like print, digital is filled with advertisements about products. Media companies are only interested in generating revenues while neglecting the drawbacks of advertisements. Studies have shown that on an average around 20 percent of the newspaper is filled with ads. Goods are marketed in such a manner that even though they fall out of one’s reach, companies with the help of lenders and fixed payment schemes find a way to sell their products. Various trends have shown that we are becoming more materialistic as a society and companies are out there to exploit it.
To sum up, advertisements may help companies sell their products and reach to a wider audience but according to me they are exploiting the people’s needs. The amount of advertisements in the media should be regulated to a certain extent. (300 Words)
