  • what was it?
  • how did people react near you?

also, explain what were the major changes that happened post it.

SAMPLE ANSWER

The year was 2013 and our state was shook from its core. I live in Uttarakhand and in a multi-day cloudburst, it all led to massive floods in the year 2013. It was actually the worst natural disaster to happen in India post the tsunami. There was a lot of destruction of pilgrimages and so many people were left stranded all across the state.

I was in Dehradun at that moment, and the floods did not strike us directly but they did indirectly. Our family members who were living in parts of Tehri happened to be all around with floods. The water came in their houses and they had to evacuate. Although their lives were saved their livelihoods were badly impacted. They lost their house, their clothes and had to start afresh.

The huge was so grave that the prime minister took an aerial survey of the entire state and announced 10 billion to the state. There were many other states and countries as well that came in to help the state financially in the crisis situation. After around a year the state is again back to its normal workings. But the remains of the flood sometimes still remind us of how much it impacted all of our lives.

Speaking Cue Card: Describe a television programme that you watch

Describe a television programme that you watch.

You should say:

  • What kind of television programme it is
  • What usually happens in the television programme
  • Why you enjoy watching the television programme

And explain why you would recommend the television programme to the other people.

Sample Answer:

I don’t watch TV so often but whenever I find a chance I always try and watch a real documentary show called “Kings of Restoration”. It is featured on the History Channel. I used to team up with my dad as a child and watch it with uttermost fascination. It is a great show for anyone who has an interest in the glams of art and creativity.

The show starts with the announcement of what product they have received recently for restoration. Rick Dale, the owner and the host along with his team explores the product and tell us about its current condition and what ideas they have on fixing it. They get a variety of products from old broken vending machines to automobiles. They work hands in hands and efficiently to get the original raw parts and prepare the basic designs. The show telecasts the way they work on each of the old part. As a child this really impressed me.

I love watching the show for a list of reasons. This show holds memories with my dad. As both of us have a deep profound interest in the minimal working of stuff, we would often talk over our own suggestions and ideas while watching it. The television programme has helped me come up with lot of creative solutions for my old goods and helped me restore stuff that isn’t in use anymore. The best part about the show was always the ending scene when they finally give away the restored product to the owner and leaves everyone of us including the customer enthralled and amazed. I recommend this show to everyone as it’s a perfect Sunday afternoon show for both the young and old. It not only entertains the viewers but also provides lot of knowledge at the same time.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Questions # Ownership

There are many things that we own, the things that we buy out of love or sometimes because of necessities. But, then there are also times when we do not need those items any longer. For instance, it could be a camera that you got but then you got bored of it or maybe did not had the chance to use it. In this cue card, we are talking about a thing that an individual owned but would like to remove.

Talk about an own thing that you would like to remove. You should say –

  • what is the thing?
  • when did you buy it?
  • why would you like to remove it?

also, explain, why did you own it in the first place.

SAMPLE ANSWER

I have owned a lot of things over a period of time, sometimes a camera, then a phone, books, but out of all of them I think it is time for me to say goodbye to some of my books! Being a bibliophile I have a collection of a lot of books and magazines which I have kept over a period of time with me. There are certain fiction books, non-fiction, and autobiographies. Some of the magazines that I bought either from airports or bookstores.

Initially, I thought I should keep all of them for the entire lifetime. But, with time I have realized that it is a good idea to give away the books that I have read already and gained the required knowledge. This helps in bringing room for some other books.

Keeping all of the books for the lifetime create a lot of clutter in the room that I live in, leaving no space for other things. Sometimes I feel overburdened surrounded by these many books around me. I do love books and reading them and have had a good collection of all the books, most of which I have read twice. I think the time has come to let go of some of the books.
