IELTS Cue Card – Favorite Restaurant

Describe your favorite restaurant.
You should say-
• where it is?
• What it looks like inside and outside?
• What kind of foods they serve?
What makes this restaurant so special to you and others?

Sample Answer:

My city is home to numerous fast food outlets and traditional restaurants. Today, I am going to talk about a restaurant which I love.

My favourite restaurant is Countdown, and it is situated at the centre of the city I am currently living in. From the outside, the restaurant doesn’t look very impressive. It is located on the ground floor of a three-storey building. It is quite big widthwise, but not in terms of length. It has large glass windows at the front, and vehicles are parked all around it. But once you step in, it is not only spacious but also surprisingly well-organised and elegant.

They offer a wide range of cuisines, including Italian, Indian, Thai, Pakistani and local varieties. This gives you a wide range of options to choose from.

I, and many others who know about this place, find this restaurant quite unique because of its delicious food and high standards of hygiene. Not only that, but the prices are also reasonable, and the food is served quickly as opposed to some other restaurants where you will have to wait for a long time for your order to appear on your table. They also play soft background music, which makes one forget about all the tensions and stress of life. The waiters and other staff are friendly and welcoming.

Unlike other restaurants, they even ask for feedback, and customer complaints are taken very seriously. All in all, I think it is one of the best restaurants in my city, and someone visiting the city should surely go there.

IELTS CUE CARD: Describe a time of the day you like

Describe a time of the day you like.

You should say:

  • What time of day is it?
  • What do you do at that time?
  • How do you feel at those times?

And explain why you like it?

Answer – Every individual prefers a specific time of the day based on their lifestyle. Some are early birds while others are night owls. I personally consider myself to be a morning person, and I believe there is no better time to start the day with a fresh mind.

My morning time usually begins with waking up at sunrise and getting myself a glass of warm water. Instead of checking my phone or responding to emails, I prefer to sit by the window and enjoy the silence and often listen to the chirping of birds. This calm and intentional beginning helps me clear my mind and feel connected with nature.

After relaxing for a while, I move on to do light physical activity. I generally go to the rooftop, appreciating the fresh morning air, and begin my workout with some stretching and yoga. I end it with some breathing exercises. After completing it, I go downstairs and start preparing myself a healthy breakfast which includes a smoothie, a bowl full of yoghurt with nuts and bread with an omelette. That is how my morning routine usually ends.

I believe that I will always choose mornings over any other time of the day, as they provide a strong start to my day. It also helps to increase my health and fitness levels and keep me alert, happy, focused, and prepared to handle the day ahead.

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a crowded place you have visited

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a crowded place you have visited

You should say:

  • Where is it?
  • When you went there?
  • With whom you went there?
  • Explain how you felt about being there?

SAMPLE ANSWER

India is densely populated, so if we are stepping out of our homes we hardly find a place which is not crowded. I normally avoid visiting overcrowded places.

Recently a Shopping Complex was inaugurated in my hometown. It is situated on the outskirts. A lot of advertisements appeared in the local newspaper to promote it. One weekend I decided to visit the Shopping Complex with my friend. It was Sunday and we planned to go there in the afternoon. We reached the Complex at around 3 p.m. I was in the mood of shopping clothes so we headed towards a clothes store inside the Complex. Both of us selected few garments and went towards the trial room to try the outfits.

Surprisingly, there was a long queue outside the trial room. I found it really funny.  My friend and I started giggling about it while waiting for our turn. After waiting for about 15 minutes we were able to try our clothes. Both of us selected a dress each and went towards the billing counter to make payment. On finding a queue there I started laughing again and nudged my friend while waiting for our turn.

As soon as we paid our bills we rushed towards the Food Court as we were quite hungry. It was 5 pm already and the Food Court too was packed with people. With great difficulty we managed to buy burgers and fries for ourselves. While we were eating, the crowd kept on increasing.

We quickly finished our meal as I started feeling suffocated. I rushed out of the Complex gasping for fresh air. That day, I decided I won’t visit this Complex on a Sunday ever again.

IELTS CUE CARD – Talk about a time you received good news

IELTS CUE CARD: Talk about a time you received good news.

You should say:

  • When it happened?
  • How you got the news?
  • What the news was about?
  • and explain why the news was special?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Good and bad news are a part and parcel of everyone’s life. Today, I’d like to talk about a time when I received good news.

I live in London. It’s been two years since I came here to pursue my higher education. My studies are quite demanding. Because of a busy schedule, I rarely get time to talk to my family, and video calls are only possible on weekends. Last week, I video-called my mother in India, and I suddenly saw her holding a newborn baby in her arms. It was so cute – just a bundle of joy wrapped in my mum’s arms.

I asked my mother who the baby was, and she exclaimed with joy that it was the baby of my close aunt who had no children. It was indeed a surprise for me because I have been far away from my family; therefore, I wasn’t aware of it. My mother told me that the birth of this baby was a miracle given the health complexities my aunt had. I thanked God for fulfilling my aunt’s wish and blessing her with a healthy baby she could call her own.

Emotions were running high in my head. It reminded me of the time when she used to visit us during summer holidays, and she would talk to my mum about her feelings of loneliness and the social stigma of being childless. I was very happy for her. I also felt sad because I could not hold this cute little baby in my arms and give either of them a warm hug. Seeing a lot of other relatives in the video call calmed me down. They were all happy, cheering, having a great time, and enjoying the baby. It was truly good news for everyone.
