Clothes and accessories have come to represent more than just simple survival gear. They are a window into someone’s life, their personality, their wealth, their age and their experiences. We all have some clothes we enjoy wearing immensely and others that never get to see the light of day.

Speaking of the former, I will talk about my favourite hoodie. Right off the bat, when I mentioned ‘hoodie’, it is obvious that this hoodie is going to be very comfortable and quite possibly oversized; well, you would not be wrong in that assessment. But perhaps what you might not be able to deduce at first glance is the emotional value of this hoodie due to the memories it carries.

I received it back in 12th class during our graduation party as a gift from the school. I was endlessly curious as to what the shiny silver foil held. Out came a comfy black hoodie; it had my school logos on the sleeves and all of our batch’s names on the back, forming a giant 2015. I was incredibly touched and distantly realised I might have torn up a little at the flood of memories in my mind.

I instantly put it on, and true enough, it was even more comfortable than it looked from the outside, for the inside had been lined in fleece. My mother will tell you how difficult it is to get that hoodie away from me once I have decided to wear it. The hood shape is simply perfect; even though it is oversized, it doesn’t slip into my face. The pockets can store more than what you would think possible, and the sleeves sit snugly at my knuckles, just where I like them. But most importantly, I feel like I am enveloped in a big hug whenever I wear it; it reminds me of simpler days, of sunshine and laughter, of badminton on Sundays and swimming on Wednesdays. There is no doubt about it, that hoodie is my favourite piece of clothing.

Air travel is a modern moral conundrum, but for some people it is unavoidable due to their job description. I will talk about my friend, Maximillian, who is a pilot. He used to travel by air in nine-hour shifts for international flights, though currently, the airlines have suspended all travel due to Covid-19.

He is what one would call a true globetrotter; he loves to travel and even takes his family abroad for his vacations. Whenever I call him, I expect a new answer to the question, “Where are you?” Due to this, we have even stopped playing Atlas on our monthly game nights; it’s so unfair; he always wins.

But I’m glad to have a friend like him; he tells great stories and really puts into perspective how the world works. Although sometimes I do wonder how much air pollution the industry causes, I can hardly fault him for doing his job.

Max has travelled to both exceedingly wealthy countries and pitifully impoverished nations. He likes to tell us about his stays at various locations. I would say, due to his travelling, he is the most worldly of us. He is a telling example of how travelling can broaden our horizons and influence our personalities positively. His undeniable humility can attest to the same. I am proud that he does what he loves, that his job not only teaches him but, by extension, also teaches us, his friend group.

Answer:

I believe that getting injured can be a very painful experience. It’s even more scary when we see our loved ones getting hurt. Here, I would like to talk about an incident when my friend met with an accident.

This incident occurred recently. My friend went to a hill station called Mussoorie with his friend on a two-wheeler. On the way back home, it was raining heavily, so the roads were extremely slippery. While they were going downhill suddenly, their vehicle went out of control and they fell. At that moment the road was almost empty, and no one was there to assist them. My friend was severely injured and was bleeding, while the other accompanying person was not hurt much.

After a while, luckily some locals came and helped them. They took my friend to a nearby hospital, where he was provided medical care to stop bleeding. Later, when I got to know about his accident, I immediately rushed to the hospital. The doctor said that the wounds were not that serious, so we should not worry much, as he will recover soon. It took some time for him to recover; I assisted him with doing basic activities, as he was not able to walk or eat food properly.

Overall, it was a frightening experience, and I am thankful to God for saving my friend’s life.

Although, nowadays it is a popular trend to say that I am very busy. But, if we observe a little closely, we will find that most of us waste our time in such an unconscious manner that we do not even stay aware of it. I also engage in this activity of net and social media browsing, which, I came to realise lately, is a sheer waste of time. Whenever I have a break at work or whenever I am at home, I instantly start browsing on my phone. Reading and watching different posts, messages, blogs and other such useless gossip turned into adrenaline pumpers and eventually, the addiction. These quivers offered by the internet start offering vicarious entertainment, and one gets hooked to them. I started this habit only a year ago, when I bought my new smartphone. The feature phone I used to have earlier had no such space for internet windows.

I started with opening an account on Facebook, which is a very common cult among netizens. It was after that that I started receiving so many comments, posts, videos and whatnot on my account. Once I started diving in them, I kept on pushing deeper and deeper. Some are funny to watch, while others have an aphrodisiac nature. Some criticise the PM while others support the government. Some comments make you feel like a hero, while others bring embarrassment. It is this colourful play of different emotions and temperaments which becomes an inducement for any user and similarly for me.

For the first few months after I bought the smartphone, I could not even realise the long durations at a stretch, just floating in those clouds and networks. It was only lately when I started feeling a severe backache and detected a rise in my lens number. I had literally punished my health for the sake of the activity of sitting with that stupid device in any bad posture. Then I realised that there is nothing creative or productive which is drawn out of this useless activity, which not only consumes time but health as well.

They can learn their apt soft skills on a desktop or personal computer placed in a common place for everyone. Secondly, even if they use the mobile phones of parents for some time, they should be duly observed and should not be allowed for overtime. Moreover, parents should educate their children about the uses and drawbacks of using a mobile phone at an early age. Rather, they should encourage them to participate in outdoor games, instead.

Q. 4 How can people spend their time creatively?

Sample answer: Books are considered to be the best friends in free time. Reading good books not only provides information on so many streams, but it also paves the way for the generation of new ideas after the accumulation of knowledge. Apart from this, one can be engaged in outdoor games and adventures. This will help in maintaining good health and enthusiastic spirits.
