People have come a lot closer in modern times. Migrating and visiting places has become very easy. Trade and exchange between countries have developed drastically, and languages play a very important role in such processes. Even though people have a few common communication languages that are spoken worldwide, it is always good to learn a new language. It can not only have a lasting impact on the native speakers but develop one’s intellect as well.

It is proven that people speaking more languages are more adept and have better personalities than people who don’t. I keep visiting new places, and I have been fascinated by a lot of different languages. I wish to learn most of them, but the most fascinating language that I wish to learn is Arabic. It is a beautiful language that is spoken in Middle Eastern countries such as the U.A.E, and Saudi Arabia. I heard it during my time in Dubai, and I wish to learn it with best efforts. It is a highly efficient language with a comfortable rate of speech. It is beautiful in its own way, whether it is the written words or spoken ones.

The songs and poems are equally enchanting and are great to listen. This language aptly represents the Islamic culture and traditions to their best and showcases the beauty that lies within that world. I wish to settle down in Dubai after my retirement and wish to be able to better communicate with the natives in order to adapt and fully comprehend their amazing lifestyles. This is the reason behind my idea to learn Arabic.

IELTS Cue Card 2024: Describe a time when you were late.

Describe a time when you were late.

You should say:

  • When it was ?
  • Why you were late ?
  • How you felt about being late ?

Sample Answer
I am a very conscientious person and try to arrive on time everywhere. I acquired this habit from my father, who is a very disciplined and punctual person. He always told me that punctuality reflects dependability to others. Whenever I have some appointments or deadlines I make sure to take extra precautions and aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. However, there have been some instances where I have still been late even after that extra time buffer. For instance, I recall being late for one of my B.ed exams. It was back in the year 2018 when I was appearing for my B.ed exams. My examination center happen to be in the outskirts of Yamunanagar a district in the state of Haryana. It was around 30 kilometers away from my hometown . So I got ready at the crack of dawn to leave at around 7am in order to reach on time. My dad accompanied me and we reached the station by 7:30. On arrival we came to know that all the trains to Haryana were running late. So, we decided to catch a bus as the bus stop was nearby. Somehow we managed to get into a crowded bus. We had reached halfway when the main problem occurred. There was a massive traffic jam on our way because, the previous night two trucks, filled with wood logs had collided and the roads were all covered with those logs of wood. It was already 10am and we were stressed. People starting getting out of the bus and we too went out. We tried hard to get an auto to reach the examination center but it was of no use. The examination center was still at a distance of 10 kilometers. Time was passing by but we were not able to get any conveyance to reach the center. It was 10:50 and I started to panic, at that very instance, an old man was passing by, on a bike and on seeing us he stopped at once, and offered help. We sat on his bike and somehow managed to reach the center by 11:15. Though I was late for my examination but the center superintendent allowed me to appear for my exam after hearing my side of the story. To cap it all, I would say it was an unforgettable experience for me. And I felt terrible for being late for my examination.

IELTS Cue Card 2024: Describe an advertisement that you don’t like.

Describe an advertisement that you don’t like.

You should say:

  • When did you see it ?
  • What is it about ?
  • Where you saw it/ how you came to know about it ?
  • Why you didn’t like it ?

Sample Answer
Well, I generally don’t like to watch many advertisements because I believe they are simply a waste of time & in turn lure people to buy unnecessary items. Although some ads are quite informative and genuine, but at the same time most of them just provide fake scenarios. Today, I would like to talk about one such advertisement which I really dislike whenever it is on air. It is an advertisement about Pan masala. It is endorsed by the top most celebrities of our country. They present that deadly tobacco packets in such a way that it lures the youngsters of the nation to try it. The people of our country are very much into imitating the doings of some famous celebrities, and when these deadly cancer causing products are showcased by them, it is hard for people to resist. The pan masala is said to be saffron-infused and designed under the theme of “Daane-Daane Mein Kesar Ka Dam”. Although the precautions clearly state that it contains tobacco and it may cause cancer. I believe these big shots should not promote such deadly products which affects the health of the people. It contains portions of tobacco, hence it is highly recommended to place it within reach of children. After having several warnings the product is still endorsed as a fit to consume item. I feel disheartening because such a dangerous product is endorsed by the idols of our country and this fascinated the teenagers, which in turn affect their overall health. Nowadays, this ad can be seen on most of the social networking sites like YouTube and Instagram. I wish there was a method that allowed us to ban several ads if they use false means to sell the product.

IELTS Cue Card 2024: DESCRIBE A SKILL YOU ARE GOOD AT.

Describe A Skill You Are Good At

You should say:

  • Where did you learn it from?
  • How do you benefit from it?
  • Are you getting better at it?
  • Have you taught it to someone?

Sample Answer

People develop special abilities to do something with enough practice. I have the capability to do many things, but something I am very good at is driving. As a child, I used to enjoy rides with my father, and I was always curious about how he did it. I wanted to learn to drive from my father, but he always told me to wait till I was old enough. The minimum driving age for a two-wheeler in my country is sixteen, but I couldn’t wait long enough. Once, my friend, who was allowed by his parents to drive, gave me a chance to get my hands on the steering wheel.

I was a bit nervous initially, but once the car started to move, I was thrilled. My father did help me get better at it and also helped me get a driving license. There are a lot of advantages to knowing how to drive. I save a lot of time when I take my own convenience to any place. Once, I drove my neighbor’s car when they needed to get to the hospital urgently.

I would say I am getting better at it because now I can drive for longer hours with fewer stops in between. Driving on steep turns on mountainous routes is not that complicated for me now. I also assist my father on long journeys during a family trip.
I did teach driving to my younger brother. It takes a lot of patience to teach something to a complete beginner. I am hopeful that he will be of help to others, and I also keep giving and taking driving-related tips.
