Sample Answer

Life has given me a lot of happiness and moments to celebrate with my near and dear ones. I have celebrated many happy moments by hosting parties for someone and attending other people’s parties as well.

I have attended many parties on different occasions in my life but the most enjoyable one was a party that I held to mark my elder sisters twenty-fifth birthday. It was a surprise party that I planned with the help of my mother. It was on the twenty-fifth of September last year, and I had started to plan it two days before. After my sister left for work in the morning I started decorating our garden and installing the setup including the tables and chairs. My mother started baking her favourite chocolate cake while I called all her friends and our relatives to the party in the evening. I then proceeded to order snacks and appetizers along with the beverages for the evening. The celebrations finally commenced and all the guests had arrived before she came. We welcomed her with the birthday song and hugs from everyone.

We all had an amazing time at the party. Everybody socialized, we played party games, danced and had a lot of fun throughout the evening. The best part was the fact that everyone was happy with the celebration and there were smiles all around me. My sister got gifts from everyone and was all smiles when I gifted her a necklace. She was spellbound and thanked me profusely for organizing such an amazing party.

Sample Answer 2:

Frankly speaking, I am not a party buff and usually attend only those parties wherein I know some people or there is something exciting going on. The party that I am going to talk about is the one I went to last year. It was my friend’s friend birthday bash and she invited all of us. Initially, I was fine with going there but later on my friend told me she could not come along and I almost cancelled my plan, when my friend’s friend actually called and invited me again to come.

Hesitantly, I said a yes and I would say that was the best yes I had ever said. The party was in Rishikesh, a tourist spot in Uttarakhand, India. It was a night party and there were campfires, music, dance, games and a lot of interesting people. To my surprise, Anusha i.e. my friend’s friend knew a lot of people and had invited them all. And I met and talked to many interesting people that I might otherwise never have come across! This included the self-employed interior designers; marathon runners; entrepreneurs, and writers. It was exciting to talk to them and find out how they are connected with the host.

Not only were the people great, but the food and other services were also fantastic. There were stalls of different kinds and one could eat whatever they wished. And it was really tasty food too!!

What’s more, I discovered that actually, I did know quite a few people there after all. I am almost won over. Next time she offers to host a party, I might even find myself looking forward to it, you never know.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: questions related to parties/celebrations

Question. 1: What are the main reasons why people organise family parties in your country?

Answer: Family parties are very popular in my country. Most People organize special parties on birthdays and marriage anniversaries. Some young adults give parties after getting good grades in their exams or after being promoted to a high level position.

Question 2: In some places people spend a lot of money on parties that celebrate special family events. Is this ever true in your country? Do think this is a good trend or a bad trend?

Answer: Yes, wealthy people in my country throw lavish parties to celebrate special family functions. The pictures of their parties are often shown in newspapers. Even though it’s their own money, I feel that it’s a disturbing trend. It promotes discrimination in society and widens the gap between the rich and the poor.

Question 3: Are there many differences between family parties and parties given by friends? Why do you think this is?

Answer: Yes, there are. Family parties tend to be more formal as compared to parties organized by friends. Social decorum and elegance both are maintained in family functions. On the other hand, people feel freer in the parties of their friends. They normally don’t mind too much drinking or dancing, but in family functions any kind of misbehaviour can create a lot of problems.

National celebrations
Question 4: What kinds of national celebrations do you have in your country?

Answer: My country has two main national celebrations: the Independence Day and the Republic Day. The Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August and the Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January.

Question 5: Why do some people think that national celebrations are a waste of government money? Would you agree or disagree with this view? Why?

Answer: Some governments spend huge sums of money on national celebrations. If a country is facing problems like unemployment, illiteracy, poverty or poor infrastructure, then people will certainly complain about the money spent on national functions. In my view, the government should focus on the development of the nation rather than showcasing their military might in national celebrations.

Cue Card # Describe a historical period/time you want to know more about.

IELTS Speaking Task # Cue Card historical period

Describe a historical period/time you want to know more about.
You should say:

  • which period it is
  • how you know about this period of history
  • what its importance is in history

and explain what you want to know more about this period.

SAMPLE ANSWER-

My country, India is quite recognized for its rich and prosperous history. One such historical period was the Indus Valley civilization that existed long back but its prevalence was recently revealed in the 1900s by an Archeological survey. It was believed to be the core of art and culture during those days.

When I first studied about this civilization in class and the planning of this period’s urbanization, it captivated me to a great extent. It was the first time that I took interest in history while learning about this time period. I learned that even in that era when there were limited resources available, the people of Indus Valley civilization enjoyed a highly developed city life.

This mysterious civilization was situated on the banks of the river Indus, the present day Pakistan. I think that it’s an important part of the historical culture as the town-planning and water management system which the people followed during that time is an excellent example for the modern world. Despite the absence of educational facilities, it is said that people who belonged to this time period had built well equipped sanitary facilities and harvesting system as well. When I further looked at the remains of artifacts of this civilization, I was actually convinced that citizens of this civilization led a comfortable and luxurious life.

I’m keen to learn more this time period and what led to its destruction. Though the town had well managed farming and architectural construction, archeologists are carrying on their research related to the specific cause of its disappearance. It is said that today’s world has a lot to learn about urbanization and administration from the remains of the Indus Valley civilization.

  • Could you let me know what you observed?
  • And explain how you felt when you saw the stars.
Sample Answer

Since childhood, I had an immense interest in aeronautical science. Information related to space would always fascinate me. I guess, I inherited this interest from my grandfather who would always share stories related to planets and stars. He used to work at the space research team in India. My grandfather has narrated to me the numerous benefits of sky gazing. According to him, if anyone is searching for peace, calm, and a sense of purpose during this period of immense chaos, sky gazing proves to be the best alternative as it helps to our minds and rejuvenate our spirits. Apart from that, it makes us more compassionate towards others. I can easily recall many incidents when I would observe stars with my grandfather. But today, I will be mentioning a time when I observe stars with my grandfather. But today, I will be mentioning a time when I observed the stars alone. It was in 2021, I used to work as an accountant in a company. I had a hectic day at work and was completely drained out. After having dinner I went straight to the terrace where I usually have a stroll. I plugged in earphones and tuned into my favorite song. While walking I was gazing at the sky. Meanwhile, I noticed a bright light falling from the sky, at first I thought it was just a light pole but I was wrong. Watching closely I realized it was a shooting star. Some say that shooting stars can fulfill a wish hence I quickly made a wish. I am not sure whether it is going to get fulfilled but still I did it. After spending an hour on the terrace I felt relaxed and more rejuvenated than before. I think sky gazing therapy is quite underrated if compared with its benefits. I have recommended this activity to my friends and colleagues to which I have recommended this activity to my friends and colleagues to which I have received a good respond.
