Increase Your Confidence

IELTS speaking section is often one of the toughest for some. Talking about random questions and sometimes even making made up answers and then speaking it in fluent English often becomes a nightmare for people who have spoken their vernacular language all their life.
Have you heard that phrase, “Confidence can sell anything”?? Well, even if you haven’t, remember this while giving your IELTS exam. Yes of course, your content matters, but it matters only when you sound correct and even more presentable.
But how can you sound more confident?
My first advice would be don’t speak in English. Relax. Don’t worry about the fact that you cannot speak in English like some of your peers, remember, everyone has their own story and all you need to do is trust in yours. So keep calm and follow the following tips.

PRACTICE OFTEN
Now, if you have got that peace and calm and the faith in yourself that you can do it, I say, go on and practice more. Practice with people you know you can talk with in the broken English. Go to places where it is compulsory to talk in English or how about joining an English club or a conversation class. Remember, you need to put yourself in uncomfortable circumstances. You need to push the envelope, and while doing it, you need to have the faith that you can do it.
RELAX
I have already told you to relax, but this time I am talking about relaxing before you speak. Think for a second or two what are you trying to tell. What is the message you are trying to bring into notice. Because sometimes, what you want to say is more important than how you say it. In the beginning, go for the things that you enjoy talking about. Remember, it always easy to talk about things you enjoy.
REHEARSE
Obviously this is not possible on the day of the examination. But then you can surely rehearse the different questions that are asked or were asked in recent exam. And the trick while rehearsing is, always ask yourself what will be the next question and how you can save it.

Remember, like every other thing, confidence comes with practice. So, stop feeling creeps from English and start loving it.

Right Way OF Learning # Idioms For IELTS

There is a way of scoring high in IELTS. Cramming high vocabulary words or learning thousands of idioms or banging your head over those often confusing grammar rules is not going to help you in IELTS. What matters in IELTS or any other exam, is how well you can apply the knowledge that you have. For instance, how well you can use those vocabulary words, or those idioms in your speaking or writing.
For this week, let us focus on five idioms and make use of them in the various letters you write or the essays you practice or the speaking tests you work on. By the end of this week, I will update the various posts I have used the following idioms, hoping that you will share the work you have done. Let us begin.

SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Alice,
I am sorry that I haven’t written for so long. My work keeps me so busy, that I never have a minute to myself. I am writing to share with you some of the great changes that have recently taken place in my life.

I know you must have a million questions running through your mind right now. I hope I can tell you enough to put your mind at ease until we meet. Recently, I landed myself a job as a travel writer with the Outlook Travel Magazine and had to shift my base to Australia. It all happened in such a rush that I myself did not realised what and where my life was going. At present, I am living near a beach in Sydney and get to travel all through Australia, as a part of my job. Being my friend for so long, you can understand how excited I am about this assignment, and how much I am enjoying every bit of it.

This country is fantastic with great people and some exciting locations to see. The beach parties are wow and the best part is the morning walk along the gushes of water, hitting softly on my legs. You can rather say that I am on a paid holiday. Apart from writing, I am also getting the opportunity to click photographs and have long chats with the people of this country. I must tell you, they all are very much like our country men.

I am waiting for the day I can meet you personally and share all the exciting photos and memories I am making here.
Yours,
Anmol.
