Reading has been a very integral part of my life. I try to read books as and when I can find time and my interests vary vividly, from philosophy to fantasy, horror to religions, non-fiction to autobiography. The book that has changed my perspectives and helped me become a better person is Autobiography of a Yogi written by the celebrated philosopher guru Paramahansa Yogananda.
I found that most of the religious societies and philosophers highly recommend it due to the values it helps inculcate in the young minds. Fans have recommended this book all over the internet.‘ Some people even commented that this is the best book ever written in the century. I decided in my head that this should be on number 1 of my reading list. I ordered the book immediately from amazon and it was delivered to me in a week. I started reading it the same day.
The book was first published in 1946 in New York, USA and archived in the philosophers library. The book was an international success and reached No. 1 position on the New York Times best-selling book list. Autobiography of a Yogi talks about the life of Paramahansa Yogananda and his numerous encounters with spiritual figures of both the East and West. The book begins with his childhood, to finding his guru, to becoming a rebellious monk and establishing his teachings of Kriya Yoga meditation. The book further talks about 1920 when Yogananda accepts an invitation to speak in a religious congress in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He then travels across America lecturing and establishing his teachings in Los Angeles, California. In 1935 he revisits India for a year. When he returns to America, he continues to establish his teachings, including writing this book. The book is an enchanting source for understanding the methods of attaining God-realization .The author also announces that the writing of the book was prophesied long ago by the nineteenth-century master Lahiri Mahasaya.
The story telling of author is magical and brief. With Every passing page the urge to read more increased which further tempted me gather more knowledge about the same man. Not for a single moment, I could have stopped thinking about the events and characters of the books and that had a breath-taking influence on me. The characters have their own charismatic powers and followed their own paths and that was such a huge inspiration.
The story was told like a good story teller should and I thought it was a wonderful read. It surely left a powerful lasting impression on me. (427 words)
I remember myself as a very studious child back in school. One subject that I particularly liked the most was English that was taught in our school. We had this subject in our curriculum each year from primary school to high school and each year we used to have a new teacher teach us the subject. Even we had to read lots of English in university as it is considered the basic of all the other subjects.
I firmly recall all of my favourite teachers who build my love for the language ,I owe them for that. I feel extremely lucky to have had some amazing faculties who shared the same level of interest and love for those long stretches of plays and poetry.
My teachers would often tell us stories and read us poetry in fine tones and then calmly explain us what it implies. She would also relate certain similar life experiences to make the point clear and id mention that it helped. Sometimes she used to take us to the auditorium and make us watch some old classic movies like breakfast club, Dial M for murder, etc. My foundation and interest grew more with each passing years and my teachers proved as a great objects for inspirations.
English itself is full of fascination and adventure if one is passionate for it. It is one of such subjects that anyone can possibly fall in love with if s/he starts understanding the underlying ideas and tries to feel it. English is a basic living necessity these days and is used all around us and the things that I learned from my School had helped me greatly throughout my life.

Sample Answer :
Making decisions by myself has always been the most difficult part about growing up. I’ve at times preferred introspecting by myself and at very major situations I’ve discussed the issue with my family and friends. One decision that I’ve struggled to make in my life was that about what stream to pursue after my high school. My parents thought that the field of technology was appropriate for me while on the other hand I felt that I could do so much better with arts. I made this decision when I was 19 years of old, just after finishing my 12th grade. My parents never forced their decision upon me instead they always advised me to pursue what my heart wanted. My dad always suggested that I should do what I thought was best for me. Everyone assumed my decision to be immature and stupid and thought that I was a fool.
But after giving time and thought to the decision making and keeping in mind the several issues and perspective I decided to get myself enrolled to a university that offers degree in designing. I’m very happy that I made this decision. I’ve yet a year to finish my graduation but throughout the last 3 years I have enjoyed working on lot of creative projects and I am doing quite well academically.
I must point out that making this choice was not easy and I had to go through a very hard time. I had to fight a lot with my inner self and then convince my parents for the same. There were always lot of potential risks of picking the option I prefer my parents would have complained if I hadn’t made a success out of myself. I still remember the sleepless nights and dubious feelings I had that time. Sometimes I thought of giving up on my passion and yield to my parents’ decision and but I made myself realise that I shouldn’t give up so easily on something that I’m really good at. Since I made my own choice at that time, a strong urge and force worked on me that I have to do really good and I am happy that I took my decision and doing very good so far.
I’ve come across different people in my life. Some of them are expressive and loquacious while others like to keep their thoughts within themselves. Today I, d like to talk about the most talkative person I know who happens to be my cute five-year-old niece. Her name is Meher and she is such a chatterbox that in her company, no other form of entertainment is needed. She speaks to me on the phone each day for almost an hour. Her stories revolve just around everything -what she has worn, what she did in her school, a new animation movie that she has seen and what she would like to receive as her birthday present etc. Speaking to her not only makes me forget all my worries but also takes me back into my carefree childhood days. Sometimes I just wonder why we lose our innocence and spark when we grow up. Having said that, I just want to enjoy the time I get to spend with her. I wait eagerly for her vacations when she can come and spend few days with me. She lightens up not just my home but also my neighborhood with her smile, giggles and a captivating personality.
